Thumbs up Yahoo Messenger GD Proceedings... - 27-02-2006, 11:02 AM

Hi Friends,

Quote:
I conduct GD through yahoo messenger conference (text-based discussion) at 10:00 p.m.
You can add
my id in your yahoo list.... My id is ONLINEGD
Quote:
THE CONCEPT BEHIND ONLINE GD

Many of the members are asking me the concept of ONLINE GD

Well, the thing is, that most of stay in different parts of the country and don't have any groups as such who would be willing to do GD on a regular basis.

So, what we do is do a conference, in which, we discuss on a particular topic and present our points. Since there will be a number of participants, u can expect a similiar discussion as an actual GD, the only limitation being that here u would be doing a text-based GD instead of the vocal one.

You would be able to share ur knowledge and know more about the topic from others' point of view. You would also come to know what kind of topics are tested and how would u be presenting ur arguments. It would initiate the flow of ur thought-process.

So although, it may not be completely simulating to the actual GD, yet u do gain an insight in the topic, wrt the knowledge.

As they say, something is better than nothing.
So i am taking the initiative of putting the GD proceedings here on this thread... I will keep updating this thread as this post by more GD proceedings that we do.....
Quote:
WHAT NEXT - HOW TO BEGIN..

1) You can add the id onlinegd from ur messenger.

2) GDs are conducted at 10:00 p.m. You can come online some 15 mins earlier and Change your status message to ONLINE GD

Then i will understand that u wish to participate in the current session and hence, invite u to the conference.

3) The GD schedule shall be announced a day in advance, from the day of the session. So keeping checking ur yahoo offlines daily.

4) Once u have changed ur status to ONLINE GD, sit back and relax. I will invite you to the conference and would introduce the topic then and there.

5) The GD shall be text-based. This means you can type your arguments as though you are in a conference. However, take care not to keep on typing after every sentence. Collate 2-3 points and then send the message. Also remember to use different fonts/colours to distingush easily between the different arguments.

6) For more details join my Orkut community:

or just add the above id and send me a PM

Re: Yahoo Messenger GD Proceedings... - 03-03-2006, 02:52 PM

I was trying to moderate it last night (02-March 10:30pm) and some feedback I have:

(a) Preping for a GD by giving out the topic in advance kills the fun and spontaneity.

(b) Ensure that you time-box all your discussions.

(c) Please don't go to the extremities esp. the unparliamentary words used for Brits and Us guys.

(d) Keep reminding yourself of what the topic is. I had said "English weather is fickle as a feather" and you guys started talking about Bush visit to India.

(e) What is the role of a moderator if you don't want him to give a feedback. I came back from office at 10:30pm and logged in at 10:40pm. When I said I need to be going at 11:30pm RachitJain said "ta ta bye bye" and Soochipuchi put the yahoo waving hand emotion.

... so in effect I lost a lot of other tips that I had wanted to give last night.

Count me out from now !

Arun

Hi arun,
on the outset, let me start by apologizing to u for what happened that night... I hope u would have read the message i sent u via yahoo..... but to confirm it, let me post it here as well..... I wanted to post it earlier too, but i guess u know my inability..

Quote:
Hi Arun,
I apologize if u feel offended by their treatment..... Actually, in between the topic i got disconncted and when i came back, u had probably felt the conference.....

As for giving the topic before, the thing is right now everyone is preparing and if i give it spontaneous, then no one will be able to give any solid points..... as we all are rookie....

Now the thing is that the topic was indeed tough and people were hardly able to give much substance to it.... though it was timed....

As for ur other points..... I didnt see when the discussion came to Bush visit in India... probably, i was disconnected at that time...but if u feel that the discussion is going haywired, then u should immediately moderate and tell the people what they r doing wrong and that the discussion is going out of scope....

Please do understand that all the ppl viz. rachit jain, suchi poochi are new and probably didnt even know that u r moderating... they might have just thought that u are another participant.

So Arun, please dont take it to heart.... we do face problems with newbies but once they get the hang of it, after once or twice, they know the culture ...

I hope u will understand this and not refuse to help us in the coming sessions!!

p.s. I actually needed a personal feedback from u for all the participants.... but i guess u may not be able to give it for this session..

p.p.s I need to post the GD proceedings before u post the feedback.... So, if possible, for the next time.... let me post the proceedings first and then u can post the individual feedback!

Take Care..
Gaurav

Hey Gauravbhai,

Aap mujhe sharminda kar rahe ho

I just tell things as it is, without sugar coating it. Just getting the message across that it should have had more method to the whole thing.

Remember that I was giving pointers in between, but I cannot blatantly point out mistakes when the GD is happening. Anyways, do ping me about your next schedule and I shall try to be there.

Arun

@Arun sirjee why i felt bad bcoz i never wanted u to feel that strongly.... after all, when i had requested u to moderate, it is my duty that u shouldn't feel offended by the group's culture... Anyway, its good, that u are still supporting us

Feedback for Case Study on Madhavi and sexual harassment case - 08-03-2006, 11:42 PM

(Yahoo Messenger GD Proceedings...)Feedback for Case Study on Madhavi and sexual harassment case:

Pratik and chaitali sail thru,

Vyankatesh needs to really work hard on gd

Gaurav needs to stop sticking to your point and take other perspectives..

Suggestion for Gaurav -> this is a little hard to digest .. taking moral conducts.. saying this means that if you were in madhvis place.. you wouldnt mind resorting to such techniques..

Suggestion for Pratik -> pratik is good and quick in initiating the discussion but then he shouldnt start giving solutions.. initiating gets u extra points.. acting too smart affects otherwise
