Hi Friends,
I received quite a lot of messages on yahoo from fellow pagals who are planning to take CAT in 2006.... most of think i am some big shot veteran who has been taking teaching for CAT since childhood....

but the truth is that i myself am planning to take CAT in 2006 (my 2005 exams were inexpressible)

Anyway, many guys and gals out there have asked me as to how should we prepare for CAT? Well folks, i don't have a magic funda for anyone but i learnt a few things in the coaching classes and i thought i might as well share it with folks out there...
Firsty, for RC.... the two most important things here are
reading with speed and
understanding clearly what u read.... U should have a reading speed of about
700-800 wpm. For this all u got to do is keep on reading whatever u can get ur hands on.... and try to improve ur reading speed with it. Initially u may find it hard, but as u gradually progress..... u will improve. You can even use a software i have uploaded on the forum called 'Universal Reader'.
Secondly, u need to improve ur vocab and that again comes with reading and noting down the tough words....
My sir at coaching class adviced us to learn 5-10 words everyday and revise them periodically, but somehow that doesn't work for me. So i just make a note of the difficult words i get to know. I generally use Babylon Dictionary and Vocaboly (uploaded on PG) bcoz i am a computer hooked guy and spend a lot of time on my system... You might try Flash cards (writing 10 words and their meaning on a card and revising it everyday).... but i personally prefer vocaboly... There are tonnes of other softwares available on the net for this purpose.
English is the main trouble for engineers like us, but i feel with systematic and regular practice, we can definitely court the language....
As for quant and DI, there is no shortcut and all u have to do is to practice and practice and practice...... Even DS has the similiar way...
I feel the MBA papers are very different from what we deal in our graduation and hence one needs to formulate a particular stratgey to deal with them.
I hope u would have already gone through my earlier posts which contain nice articles like 'D-day dos and donts'. My earlier posts also had some chat content which i had had with a CAT veteran Hari and is worth reading.... because we come to know that no matter how much preparation u do, ur attitude on the D-day will be the one which would actually count...
Many people say that they would be able to prepare for CAT all by themselves.... Even though, this is a good idea, but i think one needs a coaching institute because they make u familiar with the paper pattern and strategies and also help u out with the later stages like GD and PI, which are equally important....
As for GD, i have put up some nice articles on my other thread... called "
(**** O N L I N E G D ****)ONLINE GD "
You are welcome to visit it and find out more on GD as well as PI....
I hope all this info should be sufficient for anybody to get started....
Always remember that one can achieve great results with systematic consistent hard work and no matter how tough the paper comes, in the end the result is based on the relative performance....
So wish all my fellow CAT aspirants.... All the Best....

Adios from Gaurav!!!!!!!!
