These questions might appear easy, but it is adviced to do them when u are thru with ur fundas etc. do them with minimum application of a pen or pencil, I mean mentally. Using all shortcuts, reciprocals, %table, vedic maths, etc…….. and set time for each question say abt 45 sec. for each( the time may vary for every individual, but try it in least possible time).
As from my personal experience I practiced these with all proper techniques and methods and time set, which really helped me in Cat where I scored my best in the quant sec.( don’t wanna reveal my %ile) but it was good. I might be able to send the whole of my book as the time is short, before I leave finally for my destination.but I will try to send as much as possible.
1.Simplify. (26.21*26.21-14.79*44.79)/4.1*26.21-4.1*14.79
2. The HCF of 2 nos. is 113 and their LCM is 228825. One of the no. is 2825. Find the other.
3. The LCM of 2 nos. is 28 times of their HCF. The sum of their LCM and HCF is 1740. If one of the nos. is 240, Find the other no.
4. The sum of 2 nos. is 684 and their HCF is 57. Find all the possible pairs of such numbers.
5. Three plots having an area of 132, 204 and 228 square mts. Respectively are to be sub-divided into equalized flower beds. If the breadth of a bed is 3mts., find the maximum length that a bed can have.
6.There are 408 boys and 312 girls in a school which are to be divided into equal sections of either boys or girls alone. Find the maximum number of boys or girls that can be placed in a section. Also find the total number of sections thus formed.
7. A wine seller had three types of wine , 403 gallon of 1st type,434 gallon of 2nd type, 465 gallon of 3rd type. Find the least possible number of casks of equal size in which different types of wine can be filled without mixing.
8. Four bells ring at intervals of 6,8,12 and 18 seconds. They start ringing simultaneously at 120’ clock. Find when they will again ring simultaneously ? how many times will they ring simultaneously in 6 minutes.
9. 3 equal circular wheels revolve round a common horizontal axis with different velocities. The first makes a revolution in 5 1/3 minutes, 2nd in 2 6/7 minutes and the 3rd in 3 3/7 minutes. 3 markings one in each wheel , are in horizontal line at a certain moment. What is the shortest interval after which they will be in horizontal line again. "All good things come in small packages." ERRATA TO NEHA SECTION(if i'm correct ):
1. Deccan queen moves for Pune from Mumbai at 5:00 a.m. and it reaches Pune at 9:00 a.m. .Shatabdi starts at 7:00a.m. from Pune and reaches Mumbai at 10:30 a.m.. What time did the 2 trains meet.
ERRATA: the reaching time of shatabdi will be 8:30 instead of 10:30
2.Example.- I hired a servant for Rs. 300 per month and a cycle if he works for a year. After 8 months I threw him out and paid him Rs. 50 for that month and the cycle. How much does the cycle cost?
Method- In 8 months the servant has earned 2/3rd (8/12) of the cycle. So he is left with just 1/3rd of the cycle, which we will cut in place of 300 we gave him only 50.
1/3 corresponds to (300-50)=250
therefore 1=750. so the cost of the cycle is Rs. 750.
Errata: the cost of cycle should be 450.

1. For Deccan Queen ans cannot be 7:16 the ans is correct 7:56
as if some train start at 5 and reaches 9 and other start at 7 and reaches 10:30 there is no question that it will ever cross the train which has moved 1/2 distance(2 hrs of its journey are over as it has to travel for 4 hrs)
now to ans as one train moves 4 hrs and other moves 1.5 hrs that is 240:90 min ratio or 8:3 ratio
therefore either it wud have crossed at 3/8 or 5/8 of 90 min as the prev has moved more than 1/2 dist it wud be 5/8 * 90 i.e 56 min
thus 7:56 is correct.
2. As in 8 month his total salary wud be 2/3 cycle and 2/3 * 300.
i.e 200 rs as he is given 50 rs which is 150 less than 200 thun this 150 is being compensated for the 1/3 of cycle which was given to him before full time
thus full cost of cycle is 450 Rs.

| A rough sketch such as the one shown makes it clear that the meeting time is very much around 8:00AM.
Train________Dist________Time________Speed
DC__________d___________4h__________d/4
SE__________d___________3.5h_________d/3.5
If they meet at time X (reckoned from 5:00 AM),
displacements of both trains should add up to the total distance, d
disp(DC) + disp(SE) = d
time(DC)*speed(DC) + time(SE)*speed(SE) = d
X*d/4 + (X-2)*d/3.5 = d
Which simplifies to ...
X = 2hrs 56 min (+5:00AM)
Thus 7:56 is right Raghuveer Existence of propensity entails subsistance of avenue. | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to raghuveer_v For This Useful Post:

We have already paid the salary for the first seven months.
We need to pay the 300rs for the EIGHTH month plus the 2/3rd cycle.
Hope you get it by now.
I think 750rs is alright. Raghuveer Existence of propensity entails subsistance of avenue.

lets settle this one...
1.
yup, 7:56 seems all right...it can be done this way 2....
let the distance b/w stns be X
since dist is constant, the speed is inv prop to time of travel
=> Speed of trains are - X/4, 2X/7
by 7 am the distnce to be covered b/w them is X/2 kms
thus time = (X/2) / (X/4 + 2X/7)
= 14X/15 hrs
= 56 mins
=> total time is 2 hrs 56 mins from start ie 7:56 AM!
Finally!!! screwed up the calculations last time around
2.
and i feel the ans for the other one is 750/-....lets c how....
in 12 months i would have paid...... 12(300) + Cycle = 3600+ C
in 8 months i pay.......................7(300) + 1(50) +C = 2150 + C
now 2150+C = 2/3 (3600 + C)
ie C = 750/-
hope that helps
