Re: [The 6th Nonsense] AIPGM on 23rd/24th May in Mumbai[Sponsored by Zenith Computers -
27-05-2009, 05:18 PM
WHAT A MEET!!! Although it was my first AIPGM i believe it was the best AIPGM ever conducted. The amount of dhamaal we had was worth beyond anything that we can think off. My experience:
23rd morning, time 3am: all tosy turvy, not able to sleep. Didnt have an exam the next, wasnt part of the performance team!! It was just pure excitement of attending the AIPGM!!
The insanity begin early in the morning before i could reach bombay. Reached terminal 1b at new delhi airport and found it to be closed!!! ..asked a guard standing there and came to know that the new terminal has opened and all airlines have shifted there. Luck was on my side when another family did land at the same terminal and there were able to give me a lift to the new terminal!! Phew!! reached only 25 mins before departure!!
Reached Bombay and was picked up by one of the PG buses. Grondmaster was the first person i met on the bus. We thus resumed our journey to the resort and on the way had a small intro session. The intro was supposed to start from the back however with puys were either busy eating or shy to begin with. So we started from the front with Grondmaster. It was good ice-breaker as one could then identify who was who according to their respective PG id's. It didnt take too long for the bakar session to start with me taking the pleasure of just listening.
23rd may, 2:30 pm: we reached the resort and immidiately we were alloted rooms. The resort matched the description of PG, insanelt different!!..it was an all veg resort , the first time i had witnessed ever. That was the second insane moment of the trip. After having lunch, we first checked out the pool. Some of them who had already checked it out before, give us news about the crowd there. Some complained about it being a huge demotivating factor to enter the pool!! ..Rajeev and I quickly changed and headed to the pool and also for insane moment no 3. Just behind our room was another pool. however there wasnt any pathway leading to it. We jus jumped over the fence which was under construction took a swim without realising this, until the a DJ present there told us that, this pool is part of another resort!!
After cooling ourselves in the pool(which was in out resort), we changed and headed to the stage where 'The Five Golden Balls' were practising for the rock show.
The formal intro started at 6:30 and was a wonderful one considering one was also asked about ones own special talent. Since the order was according to the no of posts on PG, we were made to know of a no of puys who have been following PG for the past two years and made less than 5 posts. And all of them promised to be an active member henceforth.
The intro was then followed by the Rock show, the skit, the formal release of the book, some Puyscars winners, and to top it up the Salsa performance. The performance in the evening showed it everything, puys had it in them to win 'the Indian Idol', 'the Laughter challenge', 'Nach Balliye', and probably make a movie of their own. All though it was a biggest congregation of MBA junta, what came out was it was the biggest congregation of the most talented people of all. The performances were so good that only when it finished at about 11, did we realise that we still had not had dinner.
The dinner was followed by a walk down to the beach, with loads and loads of bakar from quantum mechanics to slumdog to ghost stories. This was then stopped when our very own Rohit bhai(estranged) who had to come and escort everyone back to the resort as it wasnt too safe to stay there after midnight.
Back at the resort most of the oldies began with their own bakar session. As it was planned to have the Insane Pagal League in the morning, i guess somone forgot to mention the time to us. The insane moment no 4 began when most the newbies including me, begun playing cricket, under a shed as big as a tennis court at 1 am. This brought out the sporting talents of the puys. What made it more exciting was the arguments we had over somone getting out, reminding us of the fact that even if we are from an IIM(some of them are going to join) we still can fight like kids over a game of cricket. The proof of this, you will when i post the pics. As Rohit correctly mentioned we lost both the tennis balls given to us, we had to stop and time was 4am. Tired we slept and were woken up to a shock that we had to empty the rooms. We quickly got ready and were extremely sad to know that the meet had come to an end. Spent the last few moments getting the book signed by Allwin.
Met a lot of wonderful people, the elite ones, and made some wonderful friends. The AIPGM had everything to offer and for those who have missed it, all i can say is, you will always have this void in life till you are a true. People have already called names when i told them i travelled all the way to bombay for the AIPGM, but when i told of the experience, the reaction was the want to come the next time there is this meet!!
Guys at PG HQ, you simply rock. Three cheers are way to less for you guys. Aditya, Apurv, Chuck, Soumil, Vineet, Ashwin you are rock stars. What a SHOW!!
Cant wait for AIPGM '10!!
PS: my pics will be uploaded in a day or two.

Bow down to the Salsa nachos

The crowd actually demanded "once more" and the team was happy to oblige!

AIPGM 2007 - Pune - Alibag bike ride
AIPGM 2008 - Pune - Bangalore bus ride
Decided to do something different for AIPGM 2009. Had initially though of parasailing to Arnala, but unfavorable wind conditions meant I had to take my car So we (Ali, Farzana, Saikat and me) left my place around 10.30. Till Vashi it was a breeze. Then the fun started. Kept on asking directions at every turn to be safe rather than sorry. Reached Ghodbunder road and saw signboards which said " Animal crossing. Drive Slowly!" Tried hard to spot a few leopards, but no luck. Then came on to the Ahmedabad highway and suddenly we felt as if we had reached gujarat. The road had directions and distances to ONLY cities in Gujarat. After travelling a fair distance and spotting absolutely no signboards for Virar, we decided to reassure ourselves that we were on the right track by asking an uto driver. "Aagese fourth left" was his reply! Relieved we continued our journey! That the fourth left took around 10 kms coming was a different story :whatthat:
Learned a few things in Arnala:
1. If you pester hard you can get an extra reciept for the extra money charged at toll booths
2. If somebody asks you to go right and points in the left direction, you trust the hand not the words!
Anyway so we reached Arnala beach resort at around 2.30 pm and were greeted by the Inzane labs board. Introduced ourselves as Pagals at the gate and we were allowed inside. Met Apurv, Allwin, Harsh, etc. And then the moment arrived Comes forward a guy and starts beaming. I try hard to avoid him, but he just doesnt go away Finally I have no option but to acknoledge chuck_gopal. I tried to give an excuse by saying that you look different without specs Also met Vineet there and we got to know that we had arrived before both the buses. Threw our bags in the dorm and decide to check out the resort. Also met my would be batchmate- Ankit and senior Rohit. Nice chilled out people Tried to meet godhelpsme a few times, but couldnt spot him.
The afternoon was a period of lull with not much happening. SO we checked out the beach, spent some time in the wonderful AC rooms provided to the ladies
Evening was when the fun started. The rock concert by the Five Golden Balls Rock Banned was awesome. Yes the sound could have been better, but that does not take away from the wonderful performance of each and every member of the band. Chuck complained about the messing up some adverbs, adjectives etc on the guitar after the show But seriously guys it was a very good show. Enjoyed every moment of it. The PG Anthem at the end of the show had everyone standing and applauding and singling along to it
Then came MBA nako re baba! An hilarious skit with 'natural' performances from everyone especially from Rohit during Tadap tadap ke Deepu, Shoumik, Dev, sudoku, harsh were all excellent and had the audience completely in splits throughout the performance. Then came the salsa. Something which we have been waiting for since last 2 AIPGMS Allwin, Aditya, Sukita and Sharmistha were absolutely wonderful on the stage. Everyone wanted to see some more and they truly obliged with an encore.
After dinner came the most interesting part of the whole experience. The reason why you attend AIPGM or PG meets for that matter. To catch up with people you have known for years, to see the faces of the ids you have known. People who know you a fair bit, people with whom you can be yourself without thinking about what impressions you may leave on them or hat they might judge you to be. People with whom can laugh WITH without actually laughing AT anyone.
After watching the end overs of the IP Lsemi-final and seeing Vijay Mallya jump in joy on-screen and his lok-alike do the same offscreen, some people decided to check out the beach. I decided I didnt want to see more of the beach which actually ahd nothing to offer even in the evening.
And then it started! I am not sure if it was quinty or the fan behind him that attracted crowds to where we were sitting Slowly and steadily all the oldies and some not-so-oldies started joining in and what afollowed after that was 4 hours of utter non-sense I wont go into detaisl of what transcribed, becasue the fun was in being there at that moment
Just a few random things that I can think of right now:
1. Grondmaster has to sleep early on Saturday nights so that he can go to work on Monday
2. Dont trust the signboards on the gate of the resort which say "Only veg and no alcohol"
3. No meet can be ever complete without Jackal even if he is not actually present for the meet
4. Ponytail baba actually thinks Indian economy is doing well than the US because Indians pick up things which the Americans throw away after using once.
5. The probability of an nominee winning an Pony Tail baba award which has nine nominees in that category - zero
6. Some people still read my blog which had its last post 18 months ago
7. Two lines which seem to meet each other but never actually meet are called asymptotes
8. Sudoku is the second most popular girl on PG. The first is Rohit
Some more later..
All in all a great experience

I know all those who voted for Rohit. We had made that plan. However i was not able to submit my vote as i had to fetch my camera from the room.
Anyways the cheer that Rohit had drawn after getting this special nomination showed his popularity.

The fact that I have to spend every awake moment either working or avoiding calls from the powers that be (switching off my phone during the meet was a good diversion ) ensures that I catch every available moment to sleep. And yeah... AIPGM was no. 3 & no. 4 of the days taken off (including weekly offs) in the last two months. So there.
Regards,
Grondmaster
