This is the place to discuss about the (PaGaL Awards 2007-08 - The PUYScars- Results Declared)PaGaL Awards 2007-08. You can discuss the various categories here. Deliberate on who is worthy enough to win which award But No campaigning. This is not a campaigning contest by any means. Each one to his own... yes you can give suggestions to refresh public memory about something that has been forgotten maybe. But no *Vote for me* or *Vote for him* posts

Some suggestions. from my part
Why not include categories like

most missed user ( say arora_sid )

most annoying user()


Also I am having a personal opinion that puys should be allowed to have 3 votes for Most Helpful User category: We can pool up the votes and then decide the winner. Cos its difficult even for a newbee like me to point out one single person. So what about seniors??...



Why not include a category like Special Thanks to: There could be cases when a person want to REALLY thank another puy but couldnt find any category to vote under..

It pays to read the rules etc.. once a while
-> You are free to nominate only for the categories you wish to and leave the rest blank

Thanks Nikhil... That was just for information... Self-nomination becomes important in some cases to show that the person himself is there in the race so that PGites can vote for him too... What an insane idea!!!

Great to see the awards back!!

One of the biggest concern over the years in these awards has been the issue of secrecy. The votes are open for everyone to see and every new user who posts is definitely influenced by the nominations in the previous posts. This ends up being a biased thing in the end. Many users just end up picking up nominations from different posts and post their entries. Awards like best thread, etc. are hence limited to only the threads listed in other nominations and members tend not to do individual thinking and searching. So a kind request to everyone that please post your nominations and only then read the whole thread for making it unbiased. Else to make it a secret vote, we could have used a system where people would have PMed the thread starter with his/her nominations and he could collate them in an excel sheet and declare the result only in AIPGM!

Why aren't we having nominations for worst user name, most annoying user, etc...i mean these were there last year then why not this year

A brilliant voting trend analysis done by Plumber last year says this:

Voting Trends analysis:

1) Demonstration effect: Some people voted for certian users to start with. This was a catalyst for subsequent voters, who have just followed them and voted for the same people, wothout even bothering to think...Following the herd, that is.

2) Not giving enough thought about the alternatives: While voting for some post/poster, few seem to have taken into account the alternatives...They came...they voted...without even bothering to give sound reasons for their votes. Maybe most of em have not many reasons, that's why!

3) Laziness: People have been lazy and casual. Even when the award category was best post, a good number of people have named the poster without pointing out his post.Also, the voter-turnout is dismal...dismal than even what kashmir's elections witness.

4) Trying to make everyone happy: A substantial number of people haven given many names/voted for their friends, so that they don't spoil their relationship with freinds/people they have a good rapport with etc. Voters have failed to understand that you cannot make everyone happy...if you try to, you only make everyone unhappy.

5) Living in the past: Instead of chosing posters who have been on the stage for last 1 year, a good number of people have voted for past-best-performers. DG hit the nail on the head, when he mentioned this!

6) Results won't be representative: As the number of voters are so less, the results would not be an apt representation of what public opinion actually is.
