Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Delhi | Hi, here is a management Course from IIT, Bombay -
12-08-2008, 09:45 PM
Dear fellow PGs,
Good evening.
I am Tarun. I had browsed PG site earlier too and found it very informative, useful and non-stop inspiring.
Before I blabber on, just to let you know, I have >18 yrs of work-experience in software. (I guess after a period, it doesn't really matter. )
I just wanted to introduce the PG community to a Management course from IIT, Bombay. I have just completed this course and found it very relevant for practicing managers, working executives, and entrepreneurs. It is a course run under the IIT, Bombay's Continuing Education Program (CEP).
The program is called "Certificate programme in Marketing and Human Resource Management". Here are some more details: - It is a One year course, conducted on alternate weekends in Mumbai and Delhi, on Saturdays and Sundays.
- The faculty from IIT is excellent.
- In the past, the class size has been kept small to about 15. So, there is plenty of attention that everyone gets. The classes offer plenty of scope for theory and discussions.
- The course consists of Basics of Management, Finance, HRM, and Marketing.
- The main focus is on Marketing and People Management (HRM).
- The programme enables you grasp, what you did not know earlier, what you should know in your working and business practices.
- If you are an entrepreneur, all the more better, as learning is quite good.
- To top it all, the fee is nominal, considering what the top-grade B-schools are charging. For participants at Mumbai:Rs. 82,000; and Delhi:Rs. 91,000 for the full course.
- Already about 100 professionals have benefited from the course in Mumbai and Delhi in past four four years
- Generally, people with working experience will find it more relevant, as beside the theory, there is a lot of practical aspects of management that are dealt with.
- A few of the alumni have even described it as an MBA in a compressed format.
- Past students include, Entrepreneurs, Medical Fraternity, HR, General Managers, Advertising, Marketing and Sales folks from MNCs, Airlines, Milk and Food Processing, Electric Components MNCs, IT, Oil and Gas, Pharmaceutical, Garment Manufacturing, Telecom, and many other sectors.
Without further selling, I would like to say that I found this course very worthwhile, and vouch for it any day over any other One-year part-time course. One doesn't have to compromise with work-life on weekdays. Icing on the cake is that the course comes with an IIT stamp.
The 5th batch of the course is starting on 24-Aug-08. The course brochure and further details are available here: http://www.iitb.ac.in/~cep/brochures...-mgmt-bro5.pdf
The Programme Coordinator: Prof. S. Bhargava, IIT Bombay (SJMSOM).
Email: bhargava@iitb.ac.in
Also, the 4th batch has created a Google Group as "Management By Practice". We intend to put more contents in it as we go along. It also contains information/pictures of Valedictory function of 4th batch (Delhi). Management By Practice | Google Groups
I know, this site is full of gems and CATs of IIMs, et.al. Just in case some one is interested, she/he may find out from Prof. Bhargava.
I'll be happy to provide you with any information.
Cheers
