| PaGaLGuY B-school Rankings Stage 1 [Pre-rankings] - Please give your inputs! -
17-09-2007, 02:48 PM
Dear puys,
I'm sure many of you know by now that PaGaLGuY is working on releasing its own B-school Perception Rankings. However, unlike other rankings, and like everything else on PaGaLGuY, the PaGaLGuY rankings would be carried out completely by YOU.
Yes, the rankings would be based on perception. But would it be the ultimate rankings for Indian B-schools? No.
It won't try to be everything for everyone, ie it will not be the ultimate word on the quality of Indian B-schools. The PaGaLGuY B-school Rankings will simply give a very clear picture of how India perceives its B-schools.
We know that you're all curious to know where all this is leading and you'll know soon enough, that's in about 10 days time.
But before that, we need your opinion on Which B-schools to include in the rankings. There are more than 2,000 B-schools in India and ranking all of them is next to impossible. So for this year's edition of the PaGaLGuY rankings, we have decided to include 75 B-schools, as 75 is the number of B-schools about whom we, collectively speaking, have a conclusive opinion. That is, we have heard of these B-schools in the press, known friends studying in them, studied in them ourselves or worked with people recruited from them or read about them on the PaGaLGuY Forums. We need your help in deciding which 75 B-schools to rank. Following is a list of 85 B-schools based on what we thought best were the schools that are topmost on the Indian mind, are talked about the most and are aspired to the most as compared to the remaining. Now this is what you need to do...
We need you to reply to this thread and write the following: - The names of important B-schools that you think have we missed out.
- The names of B-schools that you think can be excluded from the list to reduce the list to 75.
Everybody on this forum should and must voice his or her opinion here in order for us to work with a truly representative list of B-schools to work with. So everybody is invited to write here! Good luck List of Indian B-schools to be considered for PaGaLGuY Rankings (in alphabetical order)

Good to see this getting off the launch pad...just a suggestion instead of random order lets list the B school names in alphabetical order...easier to check what has been missed and what should be added in minimum time Edited to add : How about IIFT Kolkatta and IIM Shillong?

Interesting initiative.. about time, too.. First things first, I wud recommend keeping separate segment/section dedicated for 'niche' institutes, viz. IIFT, MICA, IRMA, IIFM, IPM (Gandhinagar), and maybe even IITs, NITIE etc. Most of them offer courses dedicated to a specific sector/specialization, and cannot/should not be compared with 'conventional' institutes offering wide range of 'popular' courses.

Super initiative !! And yes as buck mentioned ..abt time too ...
last week was shocked by the BT rankings...symbiosis at 4 !!! ... So, now Puys must set the record right ....
I wud say we shd have a general ranking done, and include niche as well as other b schools in a common category, we shd after all rank schools on a common criteria ... if MICA is not as good as IIFT in terms of placements or infrastructure ..then so be it ....shd not matter if MICA caters to jus Advting management .... jus moi opinion...
Also can we list b-schools under min percentile reqd criteria .. such as >98 MDI, NITIE and >96 MDI (HR)...so on and so forth...so that this thread can be reffered to by puys when they make applying decisions ...again jus my opinion ...open for rejection
Rock on!

Neat work, Apurv!
Well, as Oxy rightly pointed out, I too feel it would be interesting to see where the Junta perceives IIM, Shillong to fit in the rankings.
Also, in terms of omissions, I think ISB, Hyderabad is a misfit here. We are comparing all other B-schools with ISB, which caters to a very different class of applicants. The test, profiles of applicants and the selection criteria, is very different from the rest of the ilk. We wouldn't be doing justice by ranking ISB alongside the other Indian B-schools.
