Its almost a year now for me on PG first as a mere observer and then as a regular(althogh trainee ) member. No doubt i owe a great deal of debt to this forum(or phenomena?) for the exposture and GYAN provided. But in light of the recent boom and tremendous increased in the number of cat takers this year(and expectedly the same for coming years) i think the time has come to revamp the policies and protocols of forum radically so as to give a better direction and relevance to our discussions.Here i m suggesting a few initiative as per my capabilitites and similar suggestions from xperts are sought.

1.Lets start with the basic categorisation itself.I think the time has come to officialy alot space(read threads) to all the ranked institutes and then making it compulsory for all to do(post) watever they wish on that thread only. This is gonna save a lot of stupid threads coming up with the already existing ones for eg. right from announcing forms available,expected cutoffs,tentative result declration/interview dates,gd pi experience(old n new ),performance analysis,final results(always more than three ) and last but not least waitlist discusions,name any institute and we will have a thread like above for all of them (which no doubt only complicates the matters making discussion difficult and resulting in ppl chosing to post multiple copies of same issuses).

2.Those shouting for missing crucial info we can start a sticky TRACK THREAD on the home page itself ,helping regular visitors to keep track of all the happening from the time they last loggen on. This will also enlighten the poor souls to go towards the exact site of relevant discussion happening and also saving us from their own started threads.

3.Now the confussed ones........they can just start thread on whether a bus service is available to go to such n such institute or not ...........here to seperate relevant (or urgent as they appeared to be )queries an expert thread can b launched to bring the enquistive and xpert souls on the same table and do the needful.Obviously the criteria of questions is to be set(can be academics only.as for everything else agnoy aunt hai na ).

4.Keeping in view the huge number of members and posts we can go with some new ranks like instead of forum mods .thread monitors for each institute in accordance with my first suggestion of institute's official threds can be made to give a direction and relevance to the discusion or alert the mods otherwise .

5.At last post counter can set to check for the posts posted by a member per day as usally freaks use this as weapon to make their voice(or nusiance) lound .
And wat say abt making pg a paid site

thnks n a real quick reply i must admit.
actually the point is to use our off peak time(i.e. may,june,july) to analyse our performance n also for taking measures to be of more importance in futures. So guys come lets make PG better!!

Andy....Few things...
Firstly, as most other new threads, there exists a related thread for giving feedback ...And to address a few of the issues that you raised...

Few issues with this... Whats the guarantee that newbies that are still new to the concept of discussion boards navigate their way to these threads. In all probability, they will still end up creating new threads...And secondly, and more importantly, posting here is completely voluntary with a spirit of sharing. Its not something that can be made *mandatory*

Again, in case you have noticed, the content integration between portal (homepage as u call it) and forum is not a complete one, and that is more by choice, rather than by default....That is more in line with the future plans for the portal... And for the new threads since a person has last logged in, am not sure if you are aware of this link

Again, you are underestimating the sheer number of schools and volume of users that use these forums currently....A single thread option spanning multiple schools for multiple kinda queries simply ain't a viable option....But yes, having said that, prolly a diff system where B-schoolers could give all info they wanna give about a school is collated and then put in a single thread and then locking it with modifications done thro' mods...But yes, that would increase the load on the already over-worked mods

Good One. And this is what all the mods and regular members here too encourage.. Physically scanning thro' every post is simply not possible for the mods. People active in specific threads should take it upon them to ensure that nothing goes out of hand in any threads and bring it to the notice of any mods in case they notice something amiss. That is true community moderation

Hehe....Extremely valid. Mebbe a mod exists that would auto-pm users above a certain post-per-day stat

There are many threads discussing this already. Do take the discussion forward in one of those

Nice suggestion, infact I had posted something similar long time back here
If we can give access rights to the B-School rank holders (no need to overburden the Mods) to edit their Insti. page (like Wikipedia), it would be much better for everyone. In the current format, the B-Schoolers end up answering the same query again and again (some even lose their temper in the process). We can have an Index of all the B-School pages on the portal itself and the pages can have a higher priority whenever someone searches for a particular B-School. The page should have information available in a structured format, something like this (but in a more detailed manner).

Please see if this is feasible or not.

well oh la la..................who's who of PG started contributing...............i think we r on a right track..............thnks anurag,Urmad...........points taken.
as this is clearly a lean period for PG can u please make this thread or anything similar sticky for some time as at least this is gonna boost some self imposed disciplene among the PG regulars.
But at any cost i strongly support a one thread per college concept..............belive me this can really be a sure shot solution for majority of redundant errors(worries for mods) .
and ya not to forget test discussion thread etc.(as time of troubles for CAT 2006 is closing up) and also can we make "thread starting" a bit more typical by letting only ppl. with min. number of posts doing it or wat abt. totally no no for clinche threads like advice needed(shud. i do MBAfrom somaiya or marry soniya this year ).

P.S.Mod sir thread move karne ke baad ek pm karne ka kast karein..................aadmi apna khud ka hi thread nahin dhoond pata

Thanku ..actually the effort is directed towards the psyche behind the routine troubles and then designing a exact counter attack to match the same.
