Alumni community for PagalGuy.com - 19-04-2006, 11:55 AM

We once had Gods like philiptj, Stiffmaster & Co. Next came the era of pendyal,SuzyQ,Bhars18 & Co. We've been observing this trend for quite some time now.. oldies dissapearing once they get into a B-school.
I think it's high time PG.com comes out with some sorta Alumni association
What say Allwyn & Co ?

I agree too. But how, what will be the role of the alums et al. Pointers, thoughts ?

Re: Alumni community for PagalGuy.com - 19-04-2006, 01:11 PM

glad that you accepted the idea. Some suggestions for materializing it :

1) Newsletters seem to be the order of the day. The quant a question a day newsletter being a major hit, we can come up with an alumni monthly news letter which can contain details of future alumni meets/articles from alumni & related stuff.

2) Create an alumni site for PG.com. May sound slightly expensive but will surely be a BIG hit in the long run.We have alumni sites for every IIM now.. and PG.com's no backbencher!

3)Alumni chapters in different cities accross India N abroad. This would mean designating people in diff cities to take care of their respective alumni chapters.( Just like Moderators we'll have something like Alumnirators or maybe Alumni-saruses )

More ideas/suggestions welcome!

Good point Anupam.....True....What is it that we can add value in making the bschoolers come back?...Typically, most fade away after they enter the second year.....Yes, there are a few who are still active....But they are more the exception than the rule...So yes, suggestions would be most welcome

Cheers

Good idea...
For starters..maybe an alumni section here on PG(do we already have one?) before a full fledged site. But who is an alumus of PG? No of posts?Date of joining? But I fear going by anumpam's post it might become something like an IIM-A/B/C only members junction!

Nope Raghav , I don't think the alumni is open for PGites in only IIMs.It's open for anyone who is old enough. The exact date needs to be ascertained by someone, but my take's anyone registering himself/herself before Dec,2004.

I think it is a gr8 idea but I dont understand as to who will qualify as alumni? In my opinion, anyone who's been around for a while and thinks has something valuable to share with others could qualify. I dont think admission into B-Schools should be a criteria in deciding who qualifies.

I dont think this idea will serve any purpose unless it is something on the lines of giving something back to the PG community. We could have the alumni speak to CAT aspirants and answer their queries. I know that it usually does happen in PG meets but we could make it an official event where we could request the alumni to speak to the aspirants and answer queries. This could be an excellent value add to PG.

I dont see how a separate site would help in any way Anupam.

Yes, even I agree admission into B-schools should not be the only criteria in deciding the alumni members.A member may be considered as an alumni if :

1) A member whoz well known in the forum, by well known I mean most of the regulars should be knowing him/her.(Example : Psychodementia, Murtuza..)
2) Members who have registered before Dec,2004 and have significantly contributed to the forum. (Example : FC Cattie)
3) Golden members who'd registered way back when PG.com was put up. (Eg: Zarine)
4) People who were once very active members but have lost touch with PG now. (Eg: psmith,Godfather, philiptg)
5) Moderators ( new and old ) : Example : Mave,TheAkshat.
6) B-school junta who feel they should remain connected to PG.

And coming to contributions : We can come up with a newsletter wherein alumni can post their articles/gyan sessions/quizes. We may also come up with alumni meets !
I agree coming with a new site may not be feasible as it would again require personally visiting the site. My take's the newsletter.. what say ?

Nice idea Anupam. Let me put forth a few points here:

1. So who qualifies as a PG alumni? There are a few criteria we can apply:
a. They should have finished their MBA
b. They should have been an active member of PG before or while doing their MBA
c. Perhaps a minimum number of posts limit can also be set.

2. How can the alumni help us? I for one, would love to hear these guys post from time to time about their experiences at college, job and profile descriptions etc. They would be an immense help at times like these, when lot of us are confused about which college to join.

3. Im not really in favour of a newsletter as it is difficult to keep track of who said what and where. Maybe we can contact the people who qualify as PG alumni, make a separate forum for them on PG and request them to visit there regularly. Just for a start.

My take on this is, lets keep it focussed on the MBA guys. The old timers in the forum command respect from all of us, but let this initiative be focussed on bringing back the guys who disappear from PG after getting admitted/finishing their MBA
