the problem is a bit of selfishness tends to creeps in when the people studying in the premier B-Schools are giving their prestigious time...as in just think why are we people here for....most of us are here so that we can prepare well for our dream B-schools...similarly the alumni will come in and join the community only when they get something from the community...something like they discussing about their B-schools or the pedagogy used in their school or something like that...they need to gain something from the community...

instead of setting minimum number of posts,,,the value addition a person has given can be made a criteria...a person could have had n number of posts but all with general chit-chat...whereas a person with lesser posts could have given a valueable contribution to the community...

My take on this:

Who gets to be an Alum:
================

Really very hard to decide. I mean there cannot be any criterion set for this. Anyone who posts just in the Alumni section of PG should be considered as one.

What you get out of being an Alum:
=======================

I would say this should be a great opportunity to network - to stay in touch with people in the same industry etc. So maybe something like having a job opportunities section wherein people can post/advertise about their companies, about their career paths. Similarily they should be able to ask queries and stuff.

Think about it. Just examples, but say Iceman who started his own company in Hyd after passing out IIM-A this year wants to recruit some people. He bumps into say Arboreal Tarantula who passed out of ISB this year wants to chuck his Trilogy offer to take up working for a hitech start-up. Get the gist ?

1. Enough ppl have said it already...I'd jus wana re-affirm the same...Lets not even think abt making this "Alumni Space" open for only the IIM or 4 the matter "The Top B school" guys...Makin this place accessible to only a select few would b akin to introducing that infamos "R" thing on PG as well...(R for Arjun Singh )

2. Another thing that cant possibly work is that criteria wherein only puys who have registered before a fixed date b allowed here...N Dec'04 will defntly b frownded upon...There r quite a few puys who have converted their IIM calls but have registered only in '05 or so...Cant xclude them frm this place, can ya?

Well, a good point Anupam. Already had a discussion with Govi sometime back about this very issue, but on a slightly different line-of-thought. I dont very much agree with the Alumni concept. The B-schools have Alumni Association coz there are stdents/batches who come and go. But on a community forum like this, why cant we have something that always has something on offer for the junta. In that case, no one leaves/retires and no need for an Alumni then! Heres my 2p:

Q: Firstly, lets understand why the 'ol timers who contributed actively on the forums once upon a time, are no longer active?

A: We may say, that they joined B-school, dont find time et all. But the reality is, they were active in times of Preps, when the forum gave them a platform to discuss CAT related issue which no other forum offers. There was something on offer for them. Now, after they join B-school, there is not much besides the community feeling thats on offer.

For this, maybe there could a sub-forum, for B-schoolers only (Not exactly an Alumni forum, as I see the need of the hour), where they could discuss company / placement related issues, entrepreneurship plans, specialisations on offer, something that is not much discussed on this forum as there isnt a niche junta for the same.

Now, this forum could also offer placements in terms of tie-ups with companies, MNCs, who could pitch for the students out here. They get a pool of students, a mix of the best from all campuses. Now imagine the potential! This also gives the students an advantage to leverage their candidature for their dream company which didnt visit their college campus. Then, whats in the for the forums? The forum could again charge the companies for pitching here on PG! All this again because we are doing the best we do, networking and building a like-minded community! A perfect win-win situation.

Also, its a rising treand among B-schoolers who opt out of placements for Entrepreneurial plans. What better platform for them to seek like minded peepz!

PS: More coming after I grease mah brains for churning our better ideas!

Chalo.. Let's keep the alumni open for any PGite who wants to be part of the community.. but then there needs to be some sort of activities to keep the network active!
More Suggestions invited
