I think, on the contrary, we should have some sort of system, where in the mods can take volutary retirement.... wherein they can put it up that they would not be able to serve after some time.... It can be permanent or temp... i.e. they could come back atfer a period when they are relatively free and can decide that they could carry out the modding duty effectively and devote time.... till such time, we can have voluntary mods who would fill their shoes and would be acting till such time and even after wards continue helping when the others are back...

p.s. i second monil's opinion

This could also be worked out and the Mods start getting paid. The Counsellors would only cater to that section or something like that.
I second that...apart from the admin and the mods, there has to be a separate category for ol' gyani junta like Quinty,PsychoD,snan et al....maybe a green colour or something....christen 'em as counsellors and mods who want to retire can take up counsellor status..

P.S.-people who complete two years should also be given the counsellor status

The Hall of Insanity is a nice idea for Moda who are not active for whatever reasons, also for older members a special code or colour can be created and these people will be the first ones who can be mods later in time....as in it will create a nice succession plan for the entire forum. Will also add a sense of responsibility for people wjo post!!!

Apart from this the green colour can also be given to some ppl who dont have many posts may to become a certified pagal, but have donw wonders with the quality of posts they put up......

Whats say ppl?

Cheers

abt the retirement of mods..i dont think so ...if they find that they have not been able to give the due time to PaGaLGuY then they should themselves take a VRS we dont have to ask em to step down...they have done a lot for this community and they deserve this bit of respect...but yeaj even i support the CL idea...it was a good initiative...why it lost its steam dont know

ciao..

P.S. - even i support xp's candidature for turning blue

Say a mod who is inactive for 3 - 6 months, should be retired?
Should a mod ever be retired?

What are your thoughts on this?
Well ya i kinda agree to the retirement coz commitment is commitment however n whtever it may be...

Re: Retirement for mods ? - 14-03-2006, 09:18 PM

All of us have missed an important point out here, 'Should Mod retirement be ther?!' Me too pounced on 'What a retired mod should take up?'

Q: Retirement of Mods, possible?!
-- Why can't the Mods decide themselves?!
All the Mods have contributed like crazy in their times but are unable to keep up due to other priorities like B-skooling, Work, etc. But then, they should decide themselves on what next?
Also, Mod Retirement option should be offered to Mods after a minimum 1 year stint @ Modship.

Q: What after Mod-giri?
-- Again I feel the ball should be in their court. Let them decide what next. They know their intrests / strengths / ambitions best.

Also, we must understand they all return as Yum-Bee-Ayes! They know the forum better than most and are aware about the activities at Inzane Labs.

- They could take up an advisory role @ PG.com in an area they are comfortable / like to work with. This could include Strategy expert / Mktg. Cousellor / Financial Advisor etc. Its something like 'Thinking for a Living' concept from Ricardo Semler's Maverick.

- They could also take up PG.com Brand Ambassadorship. This could include networking with B-skools, forming tie-ups with (eg. IBA Scholarship) etc.

- Or they could be perfect Admins for Inzane.com's forthcoming portals eg. Simba taking up Admin @ PGG.com

- Or maybe they could take a break and have in Nirvana and take their sweet lil time to figure out what role would challenge them!

- Or Continue with Modship!? Why not?! If they intend to be back with a bang on the forums!

Retirement...umm, that's a good idea but the implementation can be better...currently it seems more like a Suspension or CRS (Compulsory Retirement Scheme) and not like VRS (Voluntary Retirement Scheme).

Let me analyse the current situation:

PagalGuy: Currently very active...but may not find too much time if he decides to go to Wharton. We'll need an Admin too and one of the current senior mods will be the best person to take up that position.

uRmad: Very Active

zango: Very Active

Maverick: Hyper Active

Wayne: Active, it's difficult for him to find time because of MBA

reachmonil: N/A (New)

Govi: N/A (New)

Simba: Active, but may find it difficult to handle the load of managing two websites along with her education.

Chandoo: Not very active since long, may not find time once he starts working. But given the company that he is joining, he can sure make a comeback...watsay Anil bhai

TheAkshaT: Rarely online, too much workload maybe

Oxymoron: Online occasionally, too much workload here too

NOTE: The analysis is not meant to offend any of the Moderators...they have done really great work for the forum and all of us love them for the service that they have done for the forum...this is just an analysis of the current situation

I think it would be best if Allwin personally talks to the inactive/less active Mods and let them take the decision themselves. Now, if some of the Mods have to retire, they will do so because they do not have enough time for the forum (because of workload or any other reason)...and if they do not have time for Modgiri, they may not have time for any of the other activities that have been mentioned on this thread also.

The best solution in my mind is "Voluntary Retirement" and a place in the PG Hall of Fame for these Mods. We need a page on the forum that mentions all the Moderators, the Editor(s), the Marketing head(s), the Create-asurs and the Legacy Modz

@all those who nominated me: Thanks a ton, but I don't want to retire within two months of joining I shall be joining my new job in June and I don't think I'll be able to do justice to either of the jobs, so no point in making promises that I can't keep. I won't retire from the forum like Iceman, but visits to the forum may get restricted to weekdays and national holidays.

For the Mods who are hardly active , they should be retired. But before doing so , better tell them about the same if they are cool with the decision. If not then they can retain the tag only if they can assure of future participation on the forum. If not , then time to get new blood

This point arises because of either no or little activity by them ... so assigning them with other tags is pointless in my opinion. Maybe a page just for the people who are/have been mods and , Pagalguy hall of fame page to honour their effort in keeping this place sane ... i mean insane
