Hi frenz...
As u all r aware dat IIFT'06 notification is out n its hapnin prety early dis yr... rite aftr CAT sunday.......so all u aspirants need 2 pull up ur socks asap!!!
Well I joind IIFT dis yr... n wud b glad 2 answer ur queries on everithing under d sun!!
M busy wid my grueling schedule here...... wil b postin FIRST TEN days expirence shortly....

how much shud i concentrate on international business & wats the best place to start?

well mr varun, for starters can u tell us wat kind of gk comes in the iift paper and how to go abt it , i mean frm were to start?
also can u tell me plz that are their sectional cutoff's in the iift paper and if it is there , then how much and how much in gk?
also the forme r being made available frm monday so if i cum to the campus at ard 12 pm, will the forms be available by then?

apart 4m usual stuf 4 d intrviews..... u must keep a chek on d latest hapnings in WTO, int'l biz, export- import, trade barriers, economy indicaters, forex reserves, trade blocs etc...
but havin said dat, i must tel u dat iift is similar 2 ny other genrl MBA course......u need not worry 2 much on dat front!!
n IIFT site cud b a gud option 2 start wid!!!.... being a wto research centre, u can get a plenty of info 4m dere....

GK section here is a healthy mix of evrythin.... b it economy, science, world, geography, history, biz world... etc
sample dis  ques 4m last yr ppr which i remember)
1. Wat is perihelion?
2. Which countries r d members of BIMSTAC?
3. Wat is d name of river Ganga when it reaches Bangladesh?
4. Whu constructed d famous temples of South?( sum specific name...... which I don remember)
n abt d sec cut-offs.... wel I m not very sure on dat front... but i think its not dere!!
ya... forms wil b availble durin d entire office hrs( 9 to 5).... u can drop in at ny time!!

hey Piyu and all u IIFT aspirants..!
sm1 asked abt the stufs asked in the Interview and all..
two questions tht are almost sure are : Why IIFT ? and Why International Business?
there's a myth tht " IIFT specializes in Foreign Trade "..
No...At, IIFT , Int'l Business isnt a specialization..Rather its a "perspective"...it is because wtever u study at IIFT, u wl hve to study its International Aspects also..( and of course, the conventional mba subjects too)
fr instance, if u study Marketing...then u also hve a buk on " International Marketing"..
so thts wt gves IIFT an edge over the others !
so keep ths important point in mind esp fr the pi and all..

IIFT's GK is more of a Business Awareness..so i wud suggest u all tht u start reading may be ET or Business Standard coz tht gves u all the latest happenings in the Corporate World and also stuffs related to Imports- Exports ( Read Exim Policy etc ) , Thngs abt sm major organizations...and WTO affairs etc.., abt prominent ppl in Int'l Business.
cos GK is smthng whr u cn gt an edge if u r in a habit of reading thngs lke ths !
But make sure u go thru Exim Policy cos u wl surely hve 2-3 quest abt tht !
and sm quest abt WTO meet to be held in HK in December 2005
Any help regarding ths is welcomed by Varun, Me and all other IIFTians !
