| NRKs to launch business school in Kerala -
13-04-2005, 10:40 AM
NRKs to launch business school in Kerala (IANS News) Thiruvananthapuram: A group of non-resident Keralites (NRKs) in the Middle East are launching a Rs.300 million ($7 million) business school here in July. The institution, called the Asian School of Business, would offer MBA equivalent programmes and start with the first batch of 60 students in July, said one of the backers.
The B-school would initially function from a 12,000 sq ft place at the Technopark campus here before moving to its own campus.
The formal announcement about the school is expected later this month.
"One reason why we are silent at the moment is that we are finalising the faculty. We are going to have a highly qualified and experienced faculty from both India and abroad," the backer said.
The school, offering a two-year postgraduate course, would have tie-ups with world-class business schools for exchange programmes and curriculum.
The thrust areas would be management and technology management. Besides the full-time course, the Asian School of Business would also offer a
part-time course for working professionals.
Fees would be comparable to similar institutes in the country and the governing body would comprise "top notch professionals", sources said. (Kerala News)

Friday, May 20, 2005Kerala To Have World-Class B School Soon THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala would soon have what is billed as a world class business school led by some of the best brains in management education in the country.
Christened Asian School of Business (ASB), the institution would begin functioning out of a fully air-conditioned building on the Technopark campus and move to an integrated campus spread over 15 acres adjacent to the Technopark by 2007.
The Board of Governors of the ASB would have such eminent personalities as Dr. S. Ramadorai, CEO and managing director, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), S. Gopalakrishnan, co-founder, Dy. MD and CEO, Infosys Technologies, M. N. V. Nair, founder-dean of the IIM, Bangalore, Prakash G. Apte, director, IIM, Bangalore, Arun M. Kumar, partner with KPMG, U.S., Samuel Paul, former director, IIM, Ahamedabad, Raj Nair, chairman, Avalon Consulting, M. R. Rao, dean, ISB, Hyderabad, and G. Vijayaraghavan, founder-CEO, Technopark, among others.
According to Prof. Nair and Mr. Vijayaraghavan, the immediate goal of the new institution would be to create a business school that is a cut above the best IIM and later to pitch for the Asian market for management education. The school would have a six-month internship for each student and ensure that all students secure placements.
The ASB would begin functioning from the 2005-`06 academic year with a full-time Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), a part-time PGPM programme for working professionals and a PGPM for entrepreneur managers. Each student would have a laptop and frequent interaction with the best management teachers and professionals, Mr. Vijayaraghavan said.

A CLIPPING FROM FINANCIAL TIMES
Asian B-school to outpay IIMs in faculty take-home M SARITA VARMAPosted online: Thursday, May 19, 2005 at 0000 hours IST THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 18: The country’s newest B-school, Asian School of Business (ASB), is going all out to outsmart the Indian Institutes of Managements (IIMs), in faculty take-home pays. ASB, opening shop from Technopark campus this year, is in whispered parleys with the ‘best management brains in India or abroad.’
Even as the enrollment for the first batches has started, more faculty are getting into the picture. Kerala capital, being a virgin B-School territory, some prefer to take the visiting faculty route. No doubt, the salary war is in. IIM faculty salaries now sail just a tad above the UGC salaries. ASB has no qualms to be more lavish to those who bring value, divulges the founding fathers of the new B- School. And if the IIM faculty has to pay a big share of their consultancy fee earnings (in the range of Rs 20,000- Rs 1 lakh per day) to their institutes, ASB will claim only a token share, they say. "There is no point in a new B-School, if it cannot better an IIM in placements and products", explains MNV Nair, ASB governing body member. Dr Nair was founder-dean, Bangalore IIM and founder-director of Bharatiyar School of Management, Coimbatore. "And wherever we cannot lure big names by salaries, we will offer liberal norms that IIMs are unable to match", he adds. ASB is backed by a trust, financed by NRIs.

they are inviting applications...a dd of rs. 1000/-
don't know about last date. classes start in mid august. claim to have visiting faculty from iims and abroad. their website is up - asb.edu.in
they say thier uniqueness is in flexibilty of timings...does it mean attendance is not compulsory?
admission is through either cat or their own test followed by gd/pi. those who have "high scores" in cat can go to gd/pi process directly.
workex of two yrs given weightage.
that's all the info i have at the moment. anyone with any idea about quality of the programme and placements?
