do u have any info abt the summer placements?I understand there are few students who did their summers thru their own contacts instead of iitm?????

well to my frd who's inquistive regarding tcs /iit madras,,,i hope this stuff regarding iit madras helps !!!


well i have converted iisc,iit madras,,iit roorkee,waitlisted in VGsom,,.well,,i did convert narsee too ,,got 1st Rank!!!! but it's all futile as iam not joining it.i did think of joining IISC initially but dropped out because of it's affinity to research stuff and batch strength (only 15 guys). dropped narsee because of batch strength (240).Apart from that it's highly commercial,,the guys over ther seem to have more of parties than presentations!!!Apart from the high feees,,there was all the factor of management quota and stuff.All in all ,, credibilty was an imp issue!!.Faced with all this,,,iit madras is what i have zeroed upon. primarily because of the following reasons,,
1. grt grt Faculty(u have prof from MIT boston-Alfred sloan Biz school for marketing),,grt systems faculty,,,that's wat the iit's are known for!!!!
2. perfect batch strength of 45-48
3. grt industry interface ( unlike vgsom,,,considering it is in madras: u have the ceo of sara lee, cavin care ,Iflex, etc,,,coming for seminars. by the way there are modules taken up ny tcs for software development and LIC takes a module for Risk management,,,does'nt happen in any iit!!!)
also u shud know that madras is considered as detroit of india :an automobile hub,,also the fact that most of the software companies are based here
4. if narsee is goiing down,,iit madras is coming up very fast. we guys will have a brand new department building:bigger than DMS delhi!!!! and grt facillities.
5.finally the most important thing which forced me on madras's side. the avg placements is approx 5.1 lpa,,and median 4.8. The highest went to a fresher ,,hired by citibank for 7.6 lpa. The important aspect is the avg salary for a fresher was 4.6 lpa,,..in the case of narsee it hardly is 4lpa. As u know the avg slary increases with higher proportion of work ex guys,,,because of which VGSom,,and DMS delhi have higher avg slaries. iit madras has lesser proportion of work ex guys ,,,but can stll boast of a similar avg salary!!).
that's my take,,ur open to ur own analysis,,make sure u take the right decion,,,considering that next year after 1 yr of work ex,,u in all probability wud have to get a <1000 rank to get a call from iit madras,,,(based on the present growth chart!!)

i know this might sound way too silly to many on the forum but i can't help it.... i got friends who've been there in south for their grad's n oh boy, they were actually got vexed up the everyday south-indian food out there.

i just hope tht ur mess atleast "tries" cooking some of the north indian dishes....

Hey guys,,

well,,,Firstly regarding my analysis of DOMS ,iitm ( i kinda prefer this name )
i strongly believe each one of you shud ensure that u get ur facts right about the college ur about to join. With the choice i had,,,(nmims,scmhrd,iisc ,ximb) the job of figuring the right college was a huge dillema,,but an envious one too!!!. i was primarily looking for 4 parameters
1. Faculty ( iit m,,and ximb scored here)
2. Industry interface and location ( iit m and narsee )
3. credibilty and the momentum (iit madras again)
4.Btach strengh (iit m again was a run away winner)
Needless to say my job was compounded by those ridiculous Bschools ratings and ppls 2nd hand impression ,,by virtue of these rankings!!!

Frankly speaking,,,After pondering a lot,,i realised iit madras ,,tho" a late starter among it's rather highlighted peers,,was coming up really really fast,,and had all the right ingredients of a grt B- school..(refer to my previous post) My decision of joining IIT M,,is based on ,wat it shall be in 2 years rather than wat ppl think bout it rite now!!!
