ok, If I may so in this way. Had I been in your place, I would have joined HCL.
Please note that my advice should not carry much meaning to you because of the following points.
1) I have not taken CAT.
2) I am in my third year (would be taking CAT in '03)
3) I have no idea of the kind of pay you would be getting.
4) I have no idea on what you plan to do in life.
Hope this helps despite the above points.
Yours truly,
Puneet

dear

congrats on ur sucsess first.. its gud that u r thinking b/w job n nitie...seems like ur intelligent person.. now NITIE..is a gr8 gr8 place in all the terms...placements, jobs, work enviorment, ppl , faculty...its by no mean less than any b skools...but at the same time IIMs hav their own aura...nothin can beat that. at the same time u just cant predict the future..who knows next time u might not get even NITIE..

its on u....some ppl wud be there...who wont join IIM-L bcos they wanna go to IIM-A only...trust me even these kinda ppl i hav met...and at the same time ppl will even pick somaya , wellingker or UBS and boast about it
if i had been in ur place...go for NITIE..

HI buddy,
congrats on that job for HCL...and the NITIE admission...coming on to your query...let me put down some facts:

1. u can do your mba after 2 yrs work exp. at HCL..that will give u a lot of weightage for mba placements

2. giving another shot for the IIMs is not a waste of time (given your percentile this time)

3.the MBA will become meaningful for u when u havce faced the industry for arounfd 2 years or so

Man can only think of problems that he can solve!

Hi Tarun,
I wud say that if u r not very particular abt doing u'r MBA from the top3 IIMs, you take the offer.

I have 3 yrs of exp in IT and have a few of my friends in IIMs and non-IIMs. All of them believe there is no big advantage a guy gets because of work-exp except the lateral palcements that happen in IIMs. Infact, I-Banks and FMCGs don't favour a person with 3/4 yrs of IT exp during placements. Your options are bound to be limited if u make it into the IIMs after 2yrs of Work-Exp.

I have been to NITIE once and interacted with the guyzz there..it s a very good institute as far as placements and summers are concerned. They have a few big names in the List of recruiters and very strong alumni network working for best of the companies since NITIE as a tech inst. has been around for more than 40 years..

Above all, IT job is sick..don't fall in to it..my personal exp...

Hope the info helps..

Albeit personal i am sure this will be echoed across all of us who have been working with 'IT' majors for last 2 years and are now desperate to get into BSchools, IIMs or otherwise.

Anyway make a choice on ur own, but remember u cant afford to regret one

lol ... facts of life pal ...

and Tarun, you can go for HCL , but, I guess, after two yrs you would reconsider ur MBA plan .. though I guess it would depend a lot on your personal career plans .. I dont doubt ur ability to secure admission in a good Insti two yr hence, but an IT job can be very much demanding at times (few of us might have experinced the same at the very vital time of exam) ... if you think you can be firm on ur career plans and work it out, ur options are open both ways ...
