Cool Break UP - 18-03-2005, 10:05 PM

Now this is confusing somebody said there was individual break-up for the PI too.i.e. 10 for some turd and ten for other turd so on......
Is it true?
But they didn't even ask/have 5 sections (okays subsections)for my PI!

Also is the Work-X valid only in Listed Co.s?(yippy then)

As for the "formality" debate or rumor I'd stick/unstick to it after "MY" result!

As for the high rankers if you have other calls and conversions (this goes for Vineet)Don't mess up our Chances mate(s)!MDI IS a very good institute too!
So do us Lowlives some good, please don't block the seat by paying in money(this goes for peeps with loads of Cash and decidophobia),Just post your withdrawl on the thread! What was the Waiting List last year, any ideas?Wouldn't it be doubled (with the reservations gone....Wink WINK)?

It was initially supposed to be Googol, which means one followed by 100 zeroes (10^100). IT was supposed to reflect the sheer number of pages that the search engine could search in/through. But the main financer (don't remember his name) wrote out a check to Google, instead of Googol, and the rest, as they say, is history.......

I'm going to second this opinion. Even apart from the seat-blocking thing, anyone in their right sense who had an admit to MDI wouldn't show up for any other Institute's interview. 'cept maybe FMS and XL. God knows I wouldn't have.

No posts from the Mumbai guys? (18th Mar) - 19-03-2005, 12:38 AM

Hi All,

thanks to everyone from Chennai/Delhi/Ban/kolk...etc for sharing their GD/PI experiences...Mine is on the 20th .... have a sad rank,... and reading reports that GD/PI seem to be more like a formality is disheartening...lets see if can impress them with some Gyan on Work-exp...

Hey Mumbai guys...am surprised that none of the PG Members from Mumbai (18th march) batch have posted their experiences..hope to see AMchi Mumbai crowd chip in by tomm noon...that would give a fair idea on the panel...here.

Best of Luck to all aspirants!

To say in short my GD was exactly the same as mentioned on page 1 This despite the panel mentioning before the start we are looking for honest contribution and you would earn in negative for for over aggression and repetition....... Well you just can not hold back a few fellas and a few girls(why me!!!!!!!! from NITIE TO MDI TO NMIMS)

Interview was complet e technical with questions on C,C++ and thier practical application & qouestions on Cricket

Any Body interested in details I wiil reply ASAP

GD experience:

GD topic (we were given 2 options and we agreed for the following, infact all the 4 grps had the asme option and all of them opted for the same):

1) Indian villages are our weakness.

2 moderators. (all the 4 grps started simultaneously, so in all 8 mods)

there were 3 salient features of our GD
1) it was bad
2) it was very bad
3) it was very very bad

it was a classic example of fish-market scenario. everybody spoke but nobody was heard.
it was really kind on moderators' part to allow us to bark for the entire 20 minutes.

I tried to play peace but nobody was interested. finally, raised my voice on a couple of occasions to keep others quiet for a fraction of a second so that i could put across my points. all-in-all, nothing worth mentioning abt it.

PI experience:

2 mods (diff from GD panel). very soft spoken lady and equally charming gentleman.

panel-1(p1): lady
panel-2(p2): guy

p1- so, you are Niraj. What have you been doing since 2004 (after graduation).
Niraj- ma'am, i was interested in MBA from my engg days, so i was preparing for entrance exams and exploring the area of specialization for the MBA course. (i knew they wanted to know why didn't i go for any job, so i started covering my ass before getting drilled ) ma'am, i didn't go for any job because i think its ethically incorrect to join a company and leave it after 5-6 months to pursue higher studies. moreover, most of the IT firms have 1-2 yrs' service-bond and i didn't want to offend it. as i was hell-bent on MBA course, I thought of applying for these jobs after the admission season gets over and i get a clearer picture as to where i stand. (both panelists were impressed by the answer )

p2- so, what have you decided?
Niraj- Finance.

p2- from comp. sci. engg to finance??
Niraj: sir, we have been taught analysing and problem solving skills in engg and finance requires similar skills. moreover, on a personal front, analysing and problem solving techniques are my strenghts(it was mentioned in the bio-sketch also.)

p2- so, which area of finance are u interested in?
Niraj- sir, its still early to comment on it cos i don't have complete knowledge of it. but, off-late i have been attracted towards financial planning and investment banking.

p2- since you are adamant on investment banking.........
Niraj- sir, i think i couldn't put across myself properly. I am not adamant on any super-specialization. but yes, investment banking has caught my fancy.

p2- thats ok, whats the work of an investment banker?
Niraj- sir , investment bankers are mostly into portfolio management, IPOs and financial planning of companies.

p2- don't you think that this job involves lot of legal issues and can be handled better by a CA or CS.
Niraj- thats where I expect NM to come into picture and equip me with reqd expertise. moreover, all these financial firms have legal depts to take care of legal issues. my domain will cater in and around financial advices.

p2- which company would u like to work with after MBA? i mean, which are the investment banking firms in india.
Niraj: JM Morgan Stanley, HSBC etc....sir, just the other day, I read in ET that many foreign banks like Goldman Sachs, Deutshe BAnk are planning to start banking operations in india.

p2- Deutshe Bank is already operational in india.
Niraj- sir, i mean, they want to obtain license for full-fledged banking operations.

p1&p2- they have a presence in india.
Niraj- then i guess my information is incorrect here

p2- are you willing to relocate to mumbai?
Niraj- that goes without saying sir. my area of interest is finance and india's capital market is dominated and controlled by mumbai. so, its an obvious choice for me.

p1- do u have any relatives in mumbai?
Niraj- my cousins stay in andheri. i have been to mumbai on couple of occasions and i am pretty comfortable with it's lifestyle.

p1- which other mumbai college have you applied to?
Niraj- none other than NMs. i did apply to SP Jain but for their Dubai course. I managed to convert the call but their last date for the payment of fee was too early an it wasn't financially feasable for me to comply with it.

p1- dubai!! interesting.......why dubai?
Niraj- ma'am, the course had super specialization in investment banking and moreover dubai has a lot of potential to grow in terms of finance. they generate lot of revenue through tourism and require financial planners to manage their funds. thats the reason, most of the financial firms have their presence in dubai today.

p1- you have mentioned in the form taht you have recieved certificates for performance in GK tests at national and international level.....whats that?
Niraj- ma'am, these tests were conducted annually by United Nations, and hence its termed as international-level tests. I do have certificates for the same.

p2- ok, what have u been doing during ur college days?
Niraj- sir, i participated in many extra-curricular acticities in college and was instrumental in organising the college fest. other than that, it was during my college days that i was attratced towards business magazines and hence interest towards MBA.

p2- which magazines do u read?
Niraj- Business Today, Business World and Business India. I also read ET regularly.

p2- acha, tell me about any interestnig article from Business Today.
Niraj- sir, the latest issue of all these magazines commented on budget. and all of them did a fair job. (after some thinking) i had read abt "pantaloons" in BT. the way in which Kishore Biyani transformed a small retail shop into a 700-crore conglomerate is really commendable. it was an interesting article to read. moreover, the basic columns of these magazines are pretty interesting. for eg. business india gives facts and figures and recent developments of corporate world in all it's issues. thats really interesting.

p1- are you a native of bangalore?
Niraj- no ma'am. i am basically from kolkata. my parents stay in kolkata. i did my graduation from bangalore and stayed back coz i had given bangalore as my test and GD/PI centres.

p1- ok, you can leave.
Niraj- thank you.

PI lasted for 8-10 minutes only. what say friends? do i stand a chance?

Niraj
