Hi Ppl ,
Some helpful tips for those of u coming for the interview.


Inside DU campus
The MBA(FT) course interview may be in FMS (North Campus) . FMS is located behind Delhi School of Economics and Hindu College. It is opposite to Kirorimal College.If you dont know that it may become a wild goose chase in the vast DU Campus.

From Station/Airport or in bus
You can say Kamla Nagar or Delhi University North Campus from railway station/airport.If you are coming in bus you have to alight at Mall Road/Malkaganj.

Stay
You may have to arrange for your own stay.Will get decent enough hotels in Phadganj/Carol Bagh which are the usual locations to stay for outsiders in Delhi.But both these places are a little bit away from FMS.

Caveat
MBA(MS) is a separate course in Delhi University South Campus.So make sure you are going to the right location .Going to the wrong campus is a common error when people search for FMS in Delhi.

GD was a cool affair very decent petrified folk, so easy to handle ..topic wasn't very out there "Effect of Governance on socio-economic growth".
A little tip with the GD try to get friendly with some select members of your group...a little panic about fish markets and all gets people's attention.believe me if you have this lil understanding going it's pretty easy to monopolise a GD and direct it where you want to go.

we were kept waiting for quite a bit before the GD and asked to come in for the Extempore n PI according to serial numbers. oh yea your group will probably be from the centre you gave the exam.

Extempore was lousy ...I got "My Miss India" some smartiepants got "Buzzer" and he went wild with it from describing the circuit functions of one to getting philosophical bout the need for a mental buzzer to keep us alert through life...we were sposed to speak for a minute...yes he was asked to shutup.
another guy had a fetish for relating everything to movies...i won't even go there.
you get 20 secs to think and a minute to spew it out...just be creative and try to catch their attention...don't be boring.

then the PI....
nothing i would call a horror story, just some twisted mind screwing, from what i remember it got progressively worse as the day went on. i was just quizzed on a lot of acads, then they decided to gang up on me because i used the infernal term "Corporate Governance" . one guy was examining my application form to no end...and he decided he had a problem with my photo. ok my dad attested my form...need i say more?
well it was pure symphony after that, i take my hat off and bow down to the wonderfully crafted setup they laid out for me. its quite uncanny how they coordinated one at a time to make me say things that just made it worse for me.after i was told that it was nothing personal and asked to leave a Sardarji(who happens to be a prof) came dancing into the room screaming 46 for 3 and a lady who probably doesn't know the difference between a googly and a ganguly asks...Sachin out ho gaya kya?

I asked him to repeat the score for me as i left.

they guy after me was kept sitting there for 5 minutes after he came in while they discussed the cricket match (indo-pak me thinks)

well it wasn't all bad i guess, it really helps if you're female and from delhi...inspite of all the claims to the contrary. a girl got waitlisted even after answering, when asked if she knew anything about Enron...Oh yes ...they came to India and packed up their bags and left.
I had talked about Enron in relation to corporate governance.

Oh yeah for hauling it all the way to Delhi and finding some way to stay there overnight and a bit..you'll get a free chota Pepsi at the canteen courtesy ...well...Pepsi.

Don't be surprised if the infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired...weedicide most importantly.

i think u'll need to hunt fr sum1 who enrolled fr TIME's GD/PI classes or a regular student for TIME's material. as far as the site's concerned... chk out www.time4education.com

It will certianly finish by 5 p m .I think u will be free by 1 p m .So do visit places in delhi and go back

The interview was scheduled to be @ 3:30 on March 20.I started early from my den in Greater Kailash since i was not familiar with Delhi and and reached FMS by by 2:15 , too early right.Well I liked the first feel of the FMS campus .Small one but felt a lot of socialising was happening in the corridors ;-D.Called up my friend who is a final year student there and he introduced me to many of his classmates and I found everyone quite amiable ;-D.I thought I would be lucky if I can get one of those coveted 60 general seats . The proceedings started by 3:20 and FMS students gave us an introductory session clearing and answering many questions about FMS.I found it a bit boring but some of the info that was passed on was quite useful.

The official proceedings began by 4:00 .Originally there were 12 aspirants(3 RECians, 2 IITians,one B Com from Chennai , One guy who had 3 years of work ex in CTS) in my panel but only 8 came for the interview.( I think four people were talking about PG before going in)All of us were led into a room were the panel was waiting.The panel consisted of 4 professors and a lady.She started on with the proceedings . I think she was the professor who was in charge of GD.

"Gentlemen,Congratulations to all of you for clearing the first stage of FMS admission successfully (Me was wondering y none from fairer sex was in my group ;-D)
We will start with the second stage now.We will have a GD on one of the topics that will be selected by one person among you from the box infront of me.You will be getting 1 minute to note down your points and we will ring a bell beforethe GD ends so that you can summarise et a l "

Then the guy who was sitting next to me (bj)went and took the GD topic and gave it to a professor.He read it out loud.The topic for your Group Discussion is " Should MNC's be discouraged in India"
After 1 minute , he said

My Version of what happened during GD
---------------------------
Actually I felt it was slightly better than the fishmarket GDs with everyone contributing enough points .All of us were of the opinion that MNCs shuld be encouraged in India and all of us gave umpteen examples like HLL,Coke,IBM etcc increasing the competency and efficiency of Indian companies .The high quality of telecom services after MNCs were let in etcc etcc and all.I tried to give a dfferent angle to the topic by discussing some disadvantages by pointing out the success of CMC when IBM was thrown out of India in 1978 by George Fernandes but still I said advantages far outweigh disadvantages and so MNC's should be let in.;-D.Anyway as my friend used to say "Everyone played there game smartly" ;-D.

Ok , Let us start with the extempore .(I decided that I will be lighting one candle in church if I can safely handle extempore)

............and I am lucky enough to have the same surname as one of the greatest persons that earth has ever seen "

Actually I mentioned about the three Newtons law in the middle of extempore .After that only I realised that I have forgotten the statements of the first two laws.But the professors didnt notice it and I just escaped by telling the relevance of Newtons law in practical as well as theoretical situations.

Then the ordeal started .The professor who gave me the extempore topic handled over my application to another professor ...

My Version of what happened during Interview

It was real stress interview @ i was pissed off at the end of it because I clearly rememeber saying to my friend that will c him when he comes back to Cochin.BTW the next time I saw him was in FMS .


Other tips
-------------------
Some of the other extempore topics were Howrah Bridge ( to a guy from Kolkatta) , L Balaji ( to bj) , The End ( to the last guy) .

All Interviews were short but really measured the ability to handle pressure (read somebodys post on top regarding a Sardarji prof coming dancing into the room .The prof sould be A S Narag , one of the most revered people in b School circles in India.He has been teaching here since 1964 (what was the age of parents then?).U see , all the profs are having vast experience and the youngest prof joined this institution in 1989 and nobody leaves FMS. So don't under estimate any of the faculty.

Bottom Line

I had two converts SP and FMS and had 99%ile in XL and 98%ile in CAT .Getting thru FMS was sheer surprise since the number of candidates who apply are so high(nearly 30 K) and I applied because the form costed only 500 .So it is complete profit with zero loss on the balance sheet.
