Hi Nishu,

I believe you are talking about this article http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/a...ow/1056929.cms ,which has just a passing reference to the ICFAI Univ coz of the Chattisgarh Act.

But then if read tht article, how did you miss out on this one?

ICFAI status - 23-03-2005, 03:07 PM

Hi

Although I hardly post but felt I should post my opinion on the same:

1. How many companies visit ICFAI for campus because it is/or was registered with Chattisgarh, Tripura and Sikkim universities? I don't think any. ICFAI sells because of it's brand image and not because of it's affiliations.

2. Can government legislation close down ICFAI? I doubt. ICFAI has massive infrastructure and is a profit making organization. It sustains itself with it's resources and doesnot depend on government grants. It has grown so big (student intake) that it will be impossible for any goverment to take drastic actions againt it.

3. ICFAI is not a fly by night kind of institution.

4. What is the problem with this Chattisgarh thing? A lot of private institutions without any infrastructure or any serious intention of imparting quality education have opened shops using this legislation. The Supreme Court didnot segregate the good and bad but passed an order againt all private institutions.

I don't think there is anything to worry about but the above is my personal opinion.

regards

hey - 23-03-2005, 11:44 PM

hi monisha,

congrats for making it to icfai hyd... see i'm from mum but not a domicile so last year when i sat for cet i didn't have much hope out of it..... to be very frank until and unless you have really fared well in cet i wouldn't recommend you leaving icfai... take it up, its definately good and recognised though nothing when compared to bajaj, sydenham, etc.....

i wouldn't say its absolutely impossible but its difficult for an oms candidate.....
anyways all the best, hope you get through a good institute in mumbai...

This is worth a million dollars! - 24-03-2005, 08:12 PM

This is the email that i sent to ev1 on the Y! group for ICFAI Hyderabad... those who r still not a member there... they may find it here...

********************************
Hello Everybody...
We are all waiting for the two wonderful years that shall begin soon. They say, MBA is an experience of a life time... And I think It cudnt have been said any better. I'm all set to live every moment that’s gonna come my way and relish the company of each one of u (assuming u don’t have a prob with that! once we get together!

Meanwhile, I just thought that I'd start with some numbers as we look forward to be students of a B-School that has enviable reputation for Finance! What better subject could there have been than analyzing the ROI or the Return on Investment... (plz excuse me if I go wrong... Me is a lawyer and am not even remotely connected with commerce/finance)

Return on Investment as I understand is; when an investor invests in a business, how much time does it take to break even... Meaning when does the investor starts making a profit on what he invested.

If u don’t mind I would like to give u my take on ROI (return on investment). Even I thought that like many others that it would take 2-3 years to recover the money... But my dad gave me some insight on that...

I assume that I have no money right now... (I don’t plan to take a loan either, as I said.. Coz dad says its always good to pay up, as loans work out more expensive) so I wud be taking a virtual loan from my dad of about 7.5 lacs.

Now as my dad rightly put, it’s a prevalent trend for young India to save about 25% (max) of the amount that they earn; which I think is a realistic figure (obviously once u r working u wud need to be all on ur own).

Assume if I have to give back my dad the entire 7.5 lacs, I wud need to get 7.5 lacs x 4 = 30 lacs of in hand salary over the years. Assuming that I get a CTC placement figure of 4.5 (which I think is optimistic) I'd get 3 lacs inhand (max). With a decent pace of growth it wud take me anywhere from 6 to 8 years to return this amount. So no savings of my own if I have to return everything.. Meaning breakeven is about 7 years from now! Whoa!

I am just wondering about people who r taking a big loan... My dad doesn’t want his money back... But banks surely do.. That too with interest... Aint this cruel!? ;-)

I hope I have not exhibited any bias... Do correct my figures and analysis if I am wrong. I donno how many people have done this number crunching... But its high time that they do and see things for themselves...

Hope that everyone contributes to this issue and this mail is taken constructively...

Looking fwd to meet u all in person, very soon!

Best Regards

Shantanu

hey shantanu
mr. lawyer i appreciate the mind u spent on the matter ,
but its s a fact that we r gonna spend huge on our masters,,,its a mammoth amount.
ur dad can afford n he s nt asking u for ROI also. even my dad thinks on the same lines. but brother ....many people dnt have any option other than bank loans ....my closest friend who ll be there in hyd with us has no other source ...he s left with no other option than paying back to the bank.
banks ask for interests but if we think the other way ...agar edu loans na hon to shahyd hum bahut acchhe colleagues ko miss kar den.
humaare saath bahut se log honge jinki studies bank loans par hi depend karti hain.....so instead of frigtening them we shud encourage them to go for that.

dnt take me otherwise brother....but this mail of urs may frighten some of our colleagues from taking bank loans n in this case they may also go for taking wrong decisions and even optiong out from IBS.

i wud again say ...i appreciate ur work ...but pls mind the negative aspects and negative effects of it.

bura mat mannna brother ...meri baatein kabhi kabhi logon ko buri lag jati hain ...but mujhe jo laga maine keh diya
hoping to meet u soon at hydrabad

Hello everyone,

Seems everyone is posting on Yahoo grp only?
Anyway, I'm more comfy here

I guess most of d ppl must be applying 4 a loan
of 4-5 lac ( I'm applying for 3.78 cuz Dad wil b
paying d 1st instlmnt n he'll b financing my laptop,
boarding, lodging, etc ! ) So dun wry, just use
d EMI calculator at SBI or any other site n u'll
find tht U'll hv to pay n amount b/w 6-6.5 lac.
U'll easily pay off the loan in 4-5 yrs in
EMI of 10-12 K !
This, assuming u grab an offer of 25k + per
month, which I'm sure most of us will

And hey, dun 4get IBS also offers lots of scholarships
even to non-rankers. Afaik, our senior Zarine also
bagged in in her 2nd sem.

This msg is 4 those who got scared aftr reading
Shantanu's mail.
I guess I'm the only soul joining IBS without
any worries. Poor me !!

Regards,
Aparna

Well, I'm sorry but i thought it made some sense... - 25-03-2005, 04:21 PM

Dear Viv n Aparna...

I wasnt tryin to hurt anyone... just was thinking that an expensive MBA can keep u occupied for years... U know most of us r in the honeymoon period... of making it to a relatively decent B-School... so i thought maybe a lil bit of reality check wud push us even further to work hard...

I am sorry if my message acted to anyone's detriment...

Regards

Shantanu

Hey Shantanu,

C'mon dun feel guilty about it! Infact it is good
to come up with such facts n figures sometimes.
It'll remind us that we shudn't take these 2 yrs
lightly n strike a balance b/w padhai n masti !!
After all v need to pay d loan ourselves after
2 yrs !

Regards,
Aparna
