Taking into account the higher number of candidates appeared in all entrance exams the cut offs are bound to be quite high. In previous years many candidates have written CAT and XAT exams only for admission into IITs and XLRI and used not to consider other B schools. Now thanks to the attention given by all magazines in surveying the top managament institutes, majority of the candidates appear in CAT and XAT to get admission only in other colleges than the IITs and XLRI, as these canddiates are aware that they are unlikley to get admission in IITs and XLRI. A couple of years back applicants with a XAT % of 75 - 80 plus got calls in almost all the 3 institutes BIM, GIM and LIBA. But this year the cut off in BIM is unlikely to be less than 90 percentile. Will not be surprised even if it is 2 or 3 %iles more. LIBAs cut offs too may be about 85% ile. As more than 40000 candidates appeared for XAT, candidates in the top 15% (above 85% ile) percentile will be about 6000, out of which I feel about 75% of the candidates will be serious. That leaves about 4500 candidates for 7 institutes, XLRI, XIMB, SIBM and BIM, GIM, LIBA, XIME - totally about 1000 seats! Hence expecting calls at less than 85% is unrealistic. Even the militant optimistic cannot expect a call at less than 80% ile.

Anyway best of luck to you all friends. Some of us might be thinking that we can give it a try next year. But mark my words friends - the competition is only going to worsen in the coming years. I will not be surprised if 2 Lakh candidates appear in CAT and abt 60000 in XAT next year. In just a couple of years any % ile less than 95-96 will not be of any use at all. Henc better now and this year!!!

karthik

i totally agree! I even say that BIM is going to be near 95% look at how big this thread is. Brilliant move of taking apps till end lol. So guys who missed XIMB and symb might apply. Then again they might not. For e.g why would a guy in Mahrashtra apply to BIM hwne there are so many top B schools in Maharashtra? . So would be very interesting to see the final cutoff

BIM Trichy any day dude!
I have been to ICFAI Hyd. They have apartment-style buldings scattered in a residential area. The place is not intellectually stimulating. Plus no Hostel.
So, go for BIM.

Doubt Clarification - 22-02-2005, 01:06 PM

Hi Friends,
There's a lot of doubt with applying to BIM.Let me clarify it again- even if you have not ticked in the XAT form for BIM,You may still apply .The last date as mentioned in the site is 28th Feb ' 05.Please pour in your doubts if you have, other than the likely cut-offs!!!
Best of Luck

90 or 95 for BIM?? - 23-02-2005, 07:08 PM

Hi HRH and Vahgar

If BIM have stopped receiving applications before XAT results and XLRI/XIMB/SIBM calls, one would even have got calls at 85% or so. If the institute receives 700 - 800 applications with 95 plus score, then why should they call applicants with less than 95? It all depends upon the total no of applications. I have a feeling tha the cutoffs could be around 92 + or _ 1 or 2. Lets wait and see. last month, with my 90.43 I was so sure of getting and even converting BIM call. Now, I am not even sure of getting a call pals!!! Sad!! Isn't it? Anyway all the best for a call first and then for conversion - to me and to all of you mates.
