Hi Surekha
I’ve just read the mail you have sent and I am glad to know that you are keen to pursue a career in HR. I am Ajith and am in my second semester of MHROD.
Last year, when I applied for this course, I too had little idea about the course. I knew that HR is what I wanted to study and to be honest I never gave a thought to any institute other than XLRI or TISS. Therefore, I can fully understand the apprehensions that you have about MHROD@DSE.
Besides giving answers to the questions that you have asked, let me give you some trivia about MHROD@DSE which I believe may help you.
MHROD is run by the Dept. of Commerce, DSE, University of Delhi and the course was started in 1995. Eight batches have passed out and the incoming batch will be the eleventh batch. The strength of the batch is 40. Now, MHROD is essentially MBA in HR (and OD) by another name. Regarding your question on MHROD not having faculty of its own, most of our faculty are from the Dept. of Commerce, University of Delhi. They may not teach in DSE per se, but are very much a part of DU. Besides these teachers, we do have some very good visiting faculty.
Now for your question on how comprehensive the course is (for HR). The curriculum was updated only last year and to the best of my knowledge, the course is as comprehensive as can be. If you are keen on a course in HR, I am sure the curriculum will not disappoint you.
As far as placements are concerned we did achieve 100% placements last year and if the trends for this year are an indication for the future, 100% of the 2005 batch will also be placed shortly. Regarding the highest, median, average and minimum salaries, I would be able to give you the exact data by January end. Regarding industrial inputs, we do have guest lectures wherein people from the industry come to the campus and talk to us.
If the alumni achievements are anything to go by, I am sure that we will give XLRI and TISS a run for their money in the years to come.
Regarding the exam, the toughest hurdle lies in the fact that only 200 people are called for the GD/PI. The paper has questions on Maths, English and GK. If you have been preparing for CAT, XAT, SNAP et al., I would suggest that you keep yourself abreast of current affairs, and of course the fact that you have a BBS background would certainly help you in the business GK part.
You have mentioned in your mail that you have heard both good and bad about the course. I am interested in the bad you have heard. This is because if there is a truth in the bad you have heard, it would do us a lot of good in terms of the constructive feedback that we receive. Else, if the bad you have heard is just hearsay, or plain gossip, I would be happy to dispel any misgivings about the course.
If you want any other information, you are most welcome to mail me. All the best for your MHROD and other entrance exams…
Regards,
Ajith S.N.
