[SPAMMERS] IIIT Bangalore -
12-11-2004, 11:59 PM
Dear friends,
* * * * * i want some information about IIIT Bangalore?
heard that it is an excellent institute with a hard core focus on research
and excellent placement oppurtunities especially overseas oppurtunities
in some companies like microsoft,SAP,SIEMENS,TEXAS INSTRUMENTS,SUN MICROSYSTEMS
is this true?
can any person and current students of IIIT Bangalore throw any light
on it?
though i am focussed 4 mba i would not mind joining MTECH programme
provided it guarantees a salary of approx 5.5LAKH at the end of 2 years

IIIT Bangalore , as far as i know is an outstanding institute.
perhaps that is one of the rare institutes in india that can boast of a large number of work-ex people coming from the IT industry to study their coveted MTech programme
they have an excellent focus on the research
people from there has even gone to MIT for phd
they have focussed labs sponsered by companies like DiamlerChrysler,IFLEX,SIEMENS,TI,INTEL etc
but on the job front they are perhaps better than excellent
the average salary is more than 5.5L perhaps though i do not knw the exact figures
a current student of IIIT-B will be able to tell that better
a friend of mine passed out from there last year
he had an experience of 2.5 years in infosys
he got a salary of 9L in google when he passed out and he joined back not as a fresh coder but as a PL or something of that sort
their unique thing is that they do not have entry through GATE but through an aptitude test of their own and guys of civil/mechanical/chemical can crossover to s/w industry after doing MTECH in IT from there
anan, u try to get in touch with a current student of IIIT-B to get a better picture

according to what i know iiit-b is agreat institute.
a cousin of mine is presently studying there.
& her batch has got a significant proportion of work-ex people.
they have a good oppertunity for researh work.
some of their people have actually gone to MIT.
they also have a fair amount of industry exposure.
faculty is really excellent.
placement is as good with companies like- google, yahoo, microsoft, motorola, hua wei, seimens,EMC etc being a regular recruiter.
even if people doesnot want to join back in the
areas of coding they can move up the value chain to be consultants in the domains of subjects like sociology in the sense that they can become experts in the fields like social & economic aspects of IT

hi to all,
for your help,
me a current student of IIIT-B
the fact is that what u people have heard is
quite true
things are pretty good here
but the scenario of overseas placement is not that exciting here
on an average , only 10-15 % of the batch gets overseas placement
ya, the entrance test is purely aptitude
and not technical
so a lot of CAT candidates end up landing here
the bad thing is that tyhey complain about the enormous pressure for 2 years
thee good thing is that at the end of 2 years they all get an average of 5-5.5L / annum
if u have any more queries regarding IIIT-B u can always post here
I will be ready to help u
and provide u much more information if u need it

hey tp,
each and every year the forms are out sometime in december.
though i do not know the details of this year
as this details are always kept secret by the admission committee
the exam is usually held in the first week of march and the interview in the first week of may
the classes are going to commence from august next year
the enrance exam( i.e the written ones) is totally like cat with the 3 sections.( this is designed so as the people with non-compsc background can join)
sometimes however they include a visual reasoning test
the interview is a mix of technical and personality
however the work-ex people do get an advantage here
so keep an eye on the newspapers

tp,
hope i find some pg ites here next year too
actually the culture here is bad in 1 sense
people who used to be pgites stop visiting pagalguy after joining
here ( thanks to the presssure)
same was the case with me
i would not even known that a thread has started in pagalguy
regarding IIIT Bangalore
but due to a cousin of me
and also thanks to anan who started the thread
it is becuse of him that i had the privilege of coming back to PG
iif the thread remains active at least guys/gals will not have to face problems like the one i had to face
i had a tremendous hard time to choose between TAPMI,SCMHRD and IIIT-B ,
the 3 institutes in which i was selected
best of luck to any pg ites who appear in the exam
always open to queries about the institute
seema
