hi GEETU..
It is a misnomer that XAT exam is tougher..... Actually the paper is pretty less taxing than CAT. The English section is very easy... Compared to CAT on a scale of 10.. I would put the English section at 4.
The Quants section is really tough... but even then there can be no generalizations made.. since the section last year was pretty easy while the one, the year before was REALLY tough...
letme tell you that the difference between those who make and those who cant in XAT are not the English or Quants section....Bcos everybody does more or less similarly in these sections..
The real differentiator is the GK section... The one who cracks GK cracks XAt... So prepare well.... Make sure you have a proper mix of both traditional and current Gk in your preparation....
Another major difference from CAt is the strict adherence to the time limits.. they do follow it in many places though there maybe some exceptions....
Hope this has helped you....

let me first thank all Ximbians to be so helping. Believe me you ppl have set an example for others to follow.

Last year I appeared for XAT got 99 %ile in Quant, 98 %ile in English but got very very poor 07 %ile in GK. It was totally out of my reach. As you ppl have done well last year in Gk section so plz let me know what books and materials you consulted. And keeping in mind the time left for XAT-05 what a starter can do and should do?

luv

hi gaurav,

yu mentioned about Marketing and systems being good at XIMB, but nothing about finance??

I take it that it is one of those less favoured specialisations at XIMB??????

so wht would u suggest someone who is intrested only in finance???

Sorry to disappoint you pal...
There is no such funda of Fin being the less favoured specialization...
As it stands now.. lemme clarify .. XIMB does not offer any specializations... What we have is 25 core courses and 15 electives..... So the specializations that you choose determine your specialization.
As far as faculty goes... we have some of the best faculty in the country here.. ( no gas here....)
JOBS ????? Well some of the best jobs were in finance and financial consultancy....
eg. KPMG, JP Morgan, McKinsey, Frost & Sullivan etc...
So rest assured... There is no disadvantage in taking finance as a specialization here....
The reason for the lowe number of Fin specs is that it is probably the toughest subject around and very few folks have what it takes to complete the course satisfactorily.... so if you think you have got it....

hi EVA...
There is really no set pattern for GK in XAT...
For example.. last years Gk was pretty tough and from several topics like world history, geography..etc..... More of trditional GK than Current Affairs....
but the year before that it was about 50-50 traditional and CA....
so the safest bet wud be to go in for equal stress on both of these subjects....
be sure to cover atleast all the CA from magazines like Competition Master and Business Management Chronicle ( I hope there will be no Rights issues on mentioning these names) ....
After all that.. be sure to remain open minded....

Hi,
dis message is for CATOphobia...
well as for gud specialization....
umm lets see....
I am doin mark-fin specialization.....
and from dis year onwards the inclination towards finance as option has increased a lot compared to last year....

Already we had good faculty in finance....but then some new courses have been introduced (here i mean the courses r real gud and some of them not taught everywhere) and also the faculty added for fin (permanent and visiting) are also damn gud.....

i wud say if u wanna go in for fin as a specialization u can very well safely do so here at XIMB, the interest in fin in the insti is high and people in huge nos. are goin in for fin as specialization.....

Thats all for now....ne other specific info u want u can message back.....

Also the cos. comin for fin recruitment will be on a rise....details of which will be told only in Jan........
also as Maloy said XIMB does not offer any specializations.....u create them for ur own...its a highly flexible system....
ciao and all the best,
Gaurav
