IIFT vs XLRI

This is what it all boils down to. As u all know the ad fr both these
institutes are out and guess wat, both have their exam on same dates.
So it now means that u have to choose IIFT or XLRI. Though it shd be
kept in mind that this exam XAT fr which many other institutes are also
affliated, it is the XLRI tat most of us are aiming fr (atleast me).
Now Please contribute regardin which exam will u be writing and fr wat
reasons.
Let me first give my answer to this question. I will be choosing IIFT
fr the following reasons:

1) XAT is a big level test which many will be writing whereas IIFT only
those who want this instite alone.

2)Negative marking is generally nil fr IIFT and last test it was 1/5.
Though it is a 5 choice paper i like this type than 1/3 negative paper
of XAT type.

3)Cost, applying fr XLRI(which is only XAT institute am intersted in)
will cost rs 1500(700+800) whereas IIFT costs just RS 1000 (online).

Now all u guys tell me wat will u be doing.

dont u worry dood...itll be taken care of (hopefully)..when the 2 insts realise the situation appropriate measures will be taken....n in all the probability u'll be able to give both the exams....till then ...in ur best interest,fil up both the forms...atleast i wud....

Go for IIFT if:
1. You want to stay in Delhi only.
2. You got a burning desire to get into International Business, esp. Trading. For IB, the Indian market is not very very good.

Go for XLRI if:
1. You can take the risk of taking a more competitive exam, the rewards are greater. XLRI is leagues ahead and XIMB is close to IIFT.
2. You have setup rescue plans by filling up other forms except IIMs i.e. SPJain, FMS, NITIE, MDI, JMET etc. so that you just miss on ONE backup plan, IIFT.

Well, word of advise, fill up both the forms, the prices are immaterial. Once you get into a B School, you wont regret it. Anyways, the same date problem for the exams should be sorted out.

hi folks

i want a clarification.. as both the dates of the examination of IIFT and XLRI are out and it is confirmed that IIFT exams are to be held on the 9th of january 2005 from 10 AM to 12 noon.The dates of XLRI are also on 9th Januray 2005
Can somebody who is currently studying in XLRI find ou whether there could be a change in the dates or is there a possibility of the exam being held in the afternoon
The problem is that i thought of taking both of them and now i will have to go in for nay one of the exams if there is a clash in timings..............
can somebody help me in this regard

Cool down. The B-schools will work out some arrangement between them.
Write both the exams. XAT ends at 12:20 and IIFT may start at 2:00 pm.

the prob is that IIFT ppl have alredy fixed the test timings as 10 to 12 noon
then how come XAT and it is usual for XAT to conduct it in the mornings
that is why i thought that ppl who are in XL can inquire and let the forum know so that we can act accordingly....

Relax mate.
Fill both the forms. What has to happen will happen. You can only worry if it depends on your efforts. And it doesn't.

Yeah, even I am concerned about the same. But, along with that I am hopeful that the issue of clashing date will be sorted.

dont leave ne of the institutes. fill both of them. last yr we had nitie sibm and fms on the same day. i didnt fill nitie which got thru cat later...

Has it ever happened before tat 2 exam dates clashed and it got rectified.? Also did it happen last yr as well? Can someone elaborate on this issue. I personally don think its possible as ads have come out and it wil be too costly to rectify it fr thr institutes. Wat say junta
