Hi
this is my first request since i became a member ..so dont disappoint me
I would be finishing my bachelors degree in Information Science from Indraprastha University, Delhi and will pass out in June 2004.
CAT 2004 will be my second attempt.
How critical is 'work experience' factor for admission to an MBA institute?
and if it is , i would be keen to begin a short stint with a training assignment with a firm only post november 04. what options ( nature of work, kind of organisation, etc.) could i explore? ( apart from the BPO sector!)
thanks | | | | | | | |

How critical is work ex? hmmm That depends from inst to inst. If u wanna app to ISB without workex, then it wont be soo good. But at most other institutes, having work ex is +ve thing, but not having it wouldnt be -ve.
There are a lot of threads on work-ex, just try searching for them... Ur query will have a better chance of being answered if u post on the right thread.
Here are two such threads: http://www.pagalguy.com/cat/viewtopic.php?t=4645 http://www.pagalguy.com/cat/viewtopic.php?t=4667 Calvin: 'I've been thinking, Hobbes.'

Hi!
I don't think work experience palys such an important role in getting into IIMs. We can see many freshers getting admitted.

Hi
I finished my B.E. in E&C from Manipal Institute of Technology,Manipal in 2007 and then joined a IT company.I was dissappointed with the job and also with my performance in CAT 2007.
I believe I need some more focussed preparation for CAT 2008.I left my job with the IT company in Feb 2008,fulfilling all the procedures and paid the bond amount and got my release letter and service certificate.
I prepared for GMAT for a while and took it this month and managed 760/800.
I am preparing for CAT and XAT.
But I do realize that I better take up a job in the meantime.I am confused.Should I concentrate totally on my preparation,do my best and then see what happens?(If I study,I am pretty confident of doing really well) or should I take up a job and study simultaneously??How will the B schools look at my gap??Will it create a very negative impression??
Please advice.
And also,in case I don't take up a job,can I do some courses that will reduce the negative impact of the gap a liitle? If so which courses should I do?.

if you have dropped the study abroad idea, you can go for cat or xat and with prep , do well considering your gmat score. in the mean time , take up a job. a blank for couple of months will not look good and it will be a negative.
get your priorities right first as to what you really want to do and then go ahead achieving that. | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to puneet For This Useful Post:

As there is no point in putting in so much hard work, spending money and then finally not taking up anything.
Once you have decided on this, please continue on the GMAT or CAT where you can find loads of threads to help you.
All the best.
