Well I cannot comment on the specific aspect which made the perticular company zero on in DoMS IIT Madras, but one feedback which we get from our regular recruiters is " your students' performance speaks for them they don't". This comes out of the conditioning which they get here, specifically our operating principle QED, wherein we don't boast of our institution, our performance gives us the recognition.

As for your preparation please look at higher mathematics section which is a bit different for JMET and the focus of JMET is more on accuracy.

To add to what Prakash just said, the department does not indulge in any publicity. You would never find DoMS placing any ads anywhere. Its left entirely to students like us to spread the word. For the same reason, you may often find DoMS way below in several media rankings. The department never participates in any! Placement figures are quoted at basic salaries without variable pays! All places have their goods and their bads. If you see DoMS purely from a ROI perspective, you wouldnt find many who can match it. Add to it the faculty that are world class, not to mention national authorities in their spheres. To learn more about DoMS, do catch up on the students' blog and the "students siren" section in it.

@Bhavik - Tat was clear... I used to keep wondering why IIT - M(!) with all its mind-blowing location,Campus and infra was being rated quite low. I think I got my answer now. My desire to step into the IIT at my home town is increasing!

Below is my profile.Kindly evaluate it. Since the number of seats is very less,I would like to know about the competition

Xth - 87.2 (CBSE)
XIIth - 85.5 (TN state board)
B.Tec - 7.7/10

I have a few participation certificates for some tough contests like Robo racing and a few prizes in Technical contests.......rest are all oratory and poetry prizes won during my school time...insignificant

I do not have any extra curriculars.. though i play a lot of sports and games.. I am fairly good in share trading and investment.. would that partly make up for my lack of extra curriculars and stuff?

Any comments on this would be greatly appreciated

Let me try to answer this in a generic way so that other puys can benefit too. Almost all students applying will have similar profile as yours. Let me list the priority areas:
1. JMET rank should be max around 1200 (for general candidates) OR CAT percentile should be around 97 %ile and above
2. If no work ex, decent acads like yours and a healthy balance of these things you mentioned (contests etc)
3. If you do something as a hobby (like trading etc), make sure you know everything about it (for interviews)

Do give you a feel of the competition, last time around 800 plus people applied for 70 seats; so the conversion ratio is around 1:10. So be prepared for a dog-eat-dog kind of a setting, but at the same time do keep in mind that there is a Group Task, not a GD so collaboration skills are stressed more than personal knowledge.

I have question regarding the Exam centres for JMET. I have applied for JMET 2010 and followed the online submission process through jmet online application system and I have also mailed the SBI bank challan for the amount I paid.
I havn't received any information about the examination centre. Any idea on, how and when this will be intimated to me.

Log in using ur Application ID or User ID(6 digit) to see the details.

I have a question to the DoMS Interface Team, Apart from the print out of the Application form (with photo), wat else we need to take to the examination centre for proof. Kindly provide the details, it will be surely helpful to all the guys, who take the exam this year.
