An update on FMS 2010...Read On...
FMS entrance exam will remain a paper-pencil test this year

The entrance exam for Delhi University’s Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) will be held on is January 10, 2010. This was confirmed by Professor J K Mitra, Dean of FMS while speaking with MBAUniverse.com. Said Prof Mitra, “As things stand today, we will be holding our entrance exam on January 10, 2010 which is the second Sunday of January 2010,” Professor J K Mitra told MBAUniverse.com.

“The formal notification for the same will be made by September end or early October,” informed Professor Mitra.

Will the FMS exam also go online, like the CAT 2009? No, said Dr Mitra. “FMS will hold the entrance exam in the traditional paper-pencil form only. One of the reasons is the exam application fee. The candidate application fee for CAT is much higher and thus IIMs can conduct the computer-based test. But FMS or University of Delhi charge a very nominal amount for the application and with that amount it is impossible to create an infrastructure for organizing computer-based test,” explained Prof. Mitra.

When asked about the application fee, Dr Mitra said there will be a slight increase this year. “The University of Delhi has decided to increase the fee slightly but it won’t be much of an increase in fee for the students,” Prof. Mitra informed MBAUniverse.com.

Last year, the candidate application fee was Rs. 500 each for MBA and MBA (Management of Services) and Rs. 1000 for applying in both. Last year, FMS entrance exam 2009 was held in 20 centers across India. According to Prof. Mitra, it is likely to remain the same.

This was last years criteria...

1)What are the eligibility criteria for 2-year full-time MBA programme?
For both the full-time programmes, the eligibility criteria are same.
Candidates applying for admission to the MBA full-time programme must have pursued at least a 3-year Bachelor's Degree programme after twelve years of formal schooling in any of the following disciplines. The minimum requisite percentage of marks in different disciplines is as follows:
Arts, Commerce or Social Sciences- 50%
Sciences- 55%
Mathematics or Statistics- 60%
Medicine, Engineering or Technology- 60%/ CGPA of at least 6 on a scale of 10

OR
Post Graduate Degree or IInd Degree examination after 10+2+3scheme, securing at least 60%marks.
Candidates must be at least 20 years of age as on 1st of October of the year of admission

Relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum eligibility will be allowed only to candidates of the following categories (SC/ST/OBC/PH/CW)

Note: Candidates in the final year of Bachelor’s Degree/Post-Graduate Degree programme are eligible to apply and appear in the Entrance Test, irrespective of their percentage of scores obtained so far, as long as they expect to fulfill the eligibility criteria when their results are declared. (The candidates will have to provide their final result before 1st October 2009)

Yes, FMS is a speed based exam.Generally, the speed-based exams' questions are easier to solve, but FMS entrance is an exception. The level of difficulty is comparatively on the higher side and the Language section here is a very difficult one to crack.Your CAT preparations are enough to get you through in FMS's other sections, but for this section, you really need to polish your language skills. There's a sectional cut-off for each section and an overall cut-off( around 98.5%le).You need to clear both of these to fetch a call.

Your work-ex,acads and everything will only come into picture after you get a call for GD/PI.Also, FMS has an extempore round. So, one needs to be ready for that as well.

Disclaimer : The selection process keeps on changing every year.No one is sure about this year's selection process. But, chances of change in pattern is very unlikely in case of FMS exam.

Thanks,
Nishant

I am a FMS previous call getter and frm my experience i would say that you need to get 50% above in each section and also one needs to have excellent vocab so as to get into FMS. since vocab section is most scoring and more of a decider

@ nishant, thanx for ur reply. I want to know whether FMS gives heavy weightage to written score in final selection like in case of nmims and jbims. I know d calls are based purely on written percentiles, but what after that? How much role written marks play in final selection? Can any experienced person give me d exact distribution of weightage given by fms to different parameters? It may b premature to ask this but i think i shud know it as i am a fresher and will lose all marks on workex in case i manage to get a call.
