Hi guys,

I hv a query and please pardon me if i am repeating this coz i searched the forum but did not find the suitable answer.

what's the marks range for various %iles last year??I mean in mandatory discloser it is in percentiles,i want to know the cutoff MARKS.

for example XAT-2008 there were 104 questions,assuming each carry 1 marks + some negative marking......then what was the score for 99 and above percentile??Also the sectional cutoff MARKS??

I guess any senior studying in XAT associate institute will be able to answer this.Seniors PLZ help.

or Is it I can apply for both PGDM and PGRM by paying 1000 Rs?

let me tell you the process by which the percentiles are calculated....

first the marks of every individual is calculated in each section and overall
these marks are then arranged in descending order
after which the percentiles are calculated.

overall percentile of 99 means you are ahead of 99% of the public who have taken the exam. this is same even for the sections......

the cut off marks are decided on the number of students applied to the college and the ratio in which the institute has decided to shortlist people from gd/pi

for example lets say any X institute wants to take 100 students and they think that they should call 1000 people for gd/pi so their cut off marks will be the marks of the top 1000 individuals who have applied to the insti...

also it is the institutes decision what sectional cut offs they want to keep....
some institutes dont have sectional cut offs.....

well its a very difficult question to answer for anyone...since we dont get the marks obtained in xat in our scorecard rather we are served with the %iles
but to give you an idea...this is only for last year....any score between 31-33 would have fetched something around 98%
25+ would have given you something around 93%
this will give you an idea...
and in any xat paper a score above 36 will fetch you 99%+ in 9/10 times

XAT 2009 had three sections – `Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (VA)’, `Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (QA)’ and `Analytical Reasoning and Decision Making Ability (AR)’.

For Personnel Management and Industrial Relations Programme a total of 600 applicants having more than 92.69 percentile in VA, 84.58 percentile in QA, 80.13 percentile in RA, and overall 95.0 percentile have been shortlisted for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

For Business Management Programme a total of 530 applicants having more than 90.03 percentile in VA, 94.9 percentile in QA, 90.21 percentile in RA, and overall 98.03 percentile have been shortlisted for Personal Interview.

No, it's not necessary. You can write XAT and apply to other colleges (other than XLRI).

EDIT:
However, remember 1 thing...people have got in with even 95-96 percentile, depending on which course they've applied to and what their profile is like.
