Re: PIL against VGSOM -

See, first of all, you guys have to understand that we do not have anything against you. All the decisions are taken by the admission committee which consists of the professors and the IIT administration. We have put forward your concerns on this aspect to the committee and now the decision will be taken at the central IIT level. What we have been telling from the beginning is that the waiting list, if any, will come only after the last date of acceptance based on how many people will accept the offer.

Listen guys.. I hope you all understand that we are just interfaces to provide information. Whatever information is known and available to us is thoroughly communicated through PG. As we have clearly mentioned in the earlier posts, chances of releasing a wait list is less but not nil.. It all depends on the number of students who would accept the final call, so be patient till then. We are putting forward your concerns to the authorities.

Re: PIL against VGSOM -

Thanks everyone for the overwhelming support. I would like to update all of you of my findings...
1. PIL might be difficult because SC explicitly mentions no PIL would be entertained in case of admissions to educational institues...BUT I might still go ahead because it is case which concerns not only me but at least 900 students each year. ( Also I have decided to wait for a while , since I believe that there is a chance of a waitlist. Also first I am planning to send a letter mentioning our concerns)
2. Currently I am in search of some legal help in my network because in case PIL is not entertained , I will go ahead and file a case.
3. Already filed RTI to get no of seats and no of final offers made.
4. Right now I am not fighting for my admission , I have already made peace with it ..i am fighting with the snobbish atitutde of an government institute , I believe the common man in this country is taken for granted by eveyone , specially government bodes . I mean for example when IIM can come out with the selection criteria then why cant IITs , also at people would become aware what do they need in order to qualify rather then fighting a fight blindfolded , for example people with poor to average profile already know that IIMB and IIMS i out of their reach and hence they are not hopeful to get admit there.
Hope evryone gets my motives.....
@SPIKY/Seniors
Can we assume that you have communicated the concerns/outcry of the candidates to the admission committee ?
Also not for even once think/assume that we are against the seniors/faculty/institute .
Its the age old atitude and habits that we are fighting again st.
Thanks..
My Struggle has just started again

Hi,
Its good to know that you guys are putting our concern to the concerned people. However looking at the trend we wont be surprised even if <50% candidates from first list confirm their admission. Since it is obvious that a significant amount of people will not opt for admission even on converting so even thinking that waitlist may not come is just undigestable or in other words filling more then 75% of seats through 1st list is practically impossible. Even IIM A gives another list.
Again if IIT Kgp can wait till 15th for declaration of results inspite of the fact that it was ready with the list 7-8 days back just because it wanted to follow the path of other IITs and show results along with them. Then why cant it follow the process like other IITs to display waitlist too along with 1st list ??
I am not saying you guys have decided it. Its just that you may act as a bridge to put our these concerns to them.
We puys are indeed thanking you for bringing our concern to them. Now we just want our concern to be put in better manner.
One more point which we should look is suppose 75 seats remain vacant after 1st list then again VGSOM shouldnt give only 75 names in next list but if it gives a waitlist till say 150 it ll not only give us good idea about our standings but also will bring down efforts for future lists.
If you guys can bring our these points to them it will be really great.
Because we dont want the seats of such great institute to remain empty inspite of the fact that we guys (missing cut off marginally) are waiting eagerly to get in !!!!!
I hope we together can work on this and it will be taken by all in right spirit.

Hi puys,
In order to increase awareness and help any other person wanting to file an RTI, I have attached 3 things along with this post -
1) Sample application form for RTI Application to VGSOM
2) RTI Form - also to be filled and sent to them
3) RTI FAQ - for your knowledge
Along with these, you need to send a DD for Rs 10 in the name of the concerned institution (Registrar, IIT KGP in this case)
Also, an address proof and a copy of your JMET Admit Card
Send all of these to the following address -
Public Information Officer
Dr. Tapan Kumar Ghoshal
Deputy Registrar
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
Kharagpur 721302
Phone +91 - 3222 - 282150 (office)
Email: dyreges@adm.iitkgp.ernet.in
All this information is courtesy jain.er... Please thank him puys... genuinely working towards a good cause... which will help those people who are next in WL(not necessarily him or me) and will also enlighten future aspirants.

Hi Sushant,
According to the document I attached in my above post... Page 8 - Point 18 (under format of application), the following is written.
18. The information seeker is not required to give reasons for seeking information.
In the same file, there's a mention of some cases where RTI is not allowed (sections 8 and 9 of the Act). The following is the html copy of the RTI Act..
Right to Information Act (India)
Here, if u go thru sections 8 and 9, its mostly related to the sovereignty of the nation, security data etc. I am sure we are not jeopardizing the security of the nation in any way...

I wish VGSOM will think about us ... if not me at least some people get chance for VGSOM ......Even I talked with my Father and asked for financial help to file a case in Kolkata High Court ...If seats are vacant but waiting list is not coming it is against natural justice ....

i think its a sheer wastage of public money if vgsom donot fill up to capacity
so much is subsidized for one seat by the government so any single wasted seat is a slap on taxpayer pocket (personal opnion)
