GD: Case study about hourly-wage workers not performing in a pharma company. Would it help if incentives/wages are linked with performance (this is not done currently)?
The GD was okay. There were many interruptions in spite of only 9 people (3 were absent). The good thing was that almost everyone made 3-5 points. The bad thing was that we did not come up with anything innovative as a group.
PI: Panel was 1 Senior Prof. (SP) and 1 young lady (YL)
YL: So, tell us about yourself
Me: Blah Blah..... ended with "the last 2 years of my life have been the best for me in terms of performance" (Tried to divert them as far away from acads as possible right from the get-go) :innocent:
SP: So you work in Cummins?

Me: (I had been told he was from Ops, and looked like he was ready to rip me apart). No sir, it's KPIT Cummins. Cummins is one of our major clients.
SP: (with a disgusted look) Oh... so an IT firm?
Me: (Completely empathizing with the disgusted look) Yes

SP: (Saw Quality Assurance (QA) in my work-ex details) So how do you measure quality in your project?
Me: Schedules, Defects, blah blah.
SP: Is it possible to have zero defect?
Me: Yes
SP: I don't think so.
Me: Yes it is... we ensure that by giving complete coverage (explained in detail)
SP: Let me take an example of exit polls. Are they 100% correct?
Me: Well, people may lie after they vote, or they may vote incorrectly.
SP: Assume that both do not happen.
SP: No, because only a few people are polled
Me: Yes, that is because a sample size is fixed. We don't have a similar situation in our project, because we don't test on "samples". We test on the entire product as a whole.
SP: Still, you can never really consider all the ranges/conditions?
Me: (

not convinced, but I did not my interview to be screwed up based on this, so reluctantly agreed) Yes, it may not be possible for us to simulate all physical conditions
SP: :-)
SP: So your branch is Telecommunications? You've studied mobiles?
Me: (Here We Go....

) Yes.
SP: What is a cellular network? Why is it called so?
Me: Told in detail.
SP: Why are the cells hexagonal??
Me: :eh: I don't know.
YL: (Jumped in all of a sudden :!

What is the difference between cellular and mobile N/Ws.
Me: Wasn't very sure, but told her what i thought.
YL: Which one has higher frequency capacity?
Me: Wasn't 100% sure again, but told her that it would be cellular networks because frequency is reused in cells. :satisfie:
SP: What is the frequency used by MTNL?
Me:

Don't really know
YL: What is the difference between a product and a service?
Me: Told with an example
YL: What are your hobbies?
Me:  Told
YL: What is a 5-year plan?
Me: Told whatever i knew, mentioned agriculture and education sectors
SP: What about NSERG, health schemes?
Me: I believe these are not part of 5-year plans. They are probably supplementary, but separate programms by the Central Govt.
SP: But only agriculture and manufacturing? Aren't Health/Education sectors part of 5-year plans?
Me: Not sure

YL: So, you are from Pune.
Me: Yay!

YL: So is Pune in Pune district?
Me: (No idea why i said this) It's in Haveli
YL: Who is the Governor of Maharashtra?
Me: (I had specifically read this, but forgot at the last moment) I do not recollect

SP: Who is the Chief Minister?
Me: Told
SP & YL: Thank You...
(I gotta say, the YL had the straightest poker face I have ever seen. I couldn't tell if she agreed with my "not-so-sure" answers, or if she thought they were complete crap. She could win the World Poker Championship hands down.)
Overall, it was better than the IIT-D fiasco, but still I wasn't really satisfied.. wasn't as confident while answering the questions as I should have been. :-?
Things are looking really bleak for the 08-09 season
