GP/PI Process for GIM started from today and we already have an experience from one candidate in other thread.

So starting an exclusive thread for GD/PI Experiences. Any minor/major queries related to GD/PI Experience be asked in appropriate thread. Here is the link of that thread.

Hi All... I was the first guy to be interviewed today..

my Pi ex is as below


Time:8.45 date 23/02/2009

There were 2 professors-
P1- Sir D’lima
P2-Sir vernekar

For me it was FIRST DAY, FIRST SHOW and FIRST VICTIM.. cos I was the first guy to be interviewed for the year 2009

@ start everyone was made to sit in one room and they asked to say one thing which strikes me the most….

again ,I was first to be asked and then everyone said something or the other…

My advice here is to be precise n convey the point in a sentence or two…

Next was the essay… topic was “Challenges of gloom!”(I wrote abt economic slowdown)

15 mins for essay and everyone had written something or the other….
I managed to fill one side of the page …

Then came the PI…
First to be grilled---- was roasted and eaten up

Me:may I come in?
P2:come in… sit

P1: How did u come to goa, mean how did ur family settle here..
Me: Blah blah.. told them the story..

P2: so u studied electronics, what is the impact of Global slowdown on electronics?
Me: Blah blah blah… I feel I didn’t talk to the point

P2 -> took a point which I mentioned and proved me wrong
Me-> agreed J

P2: Tell me abt ur job in ur company
Me: spoke a bit abt my project … (this was the only time I spoke sense)

P2: Tell us abt the FPS system…
Me: Spoke a bit as this was my project and wanted to talk more,But I was not able to talk as the topic got changed

P2: why Mba?
Me: blah blah

P2: What skills do u think a good manager should have
Me : Blah blah as ususal

P2: Why not so many entrepreneurs in India?
Me: ( got a bit emotional J ) blamed it on the education system J… n blah blah again

P2: so u think ur BE was a waste?
Me: Yes and blah blah again J

P2: What wud u do if u were the CEO of a company..
Me: blah blah

P2: tell me about urself
Me: communication skills, blah blah… and my ability to convince

P2: so u think u have convinced us
Me: I don’t think so

P2: Why do u think so?
Me: cos the looks on ur faces are not convincing enough

P2 : (smiled finally) so u have a good analyzing skills
Me: Yes (indirectly I have been rejected .. smiled too )

P2: Ok u can leave…(and in silence probably the interviewers said “AND NEVA COME BACK AGAIN” J )

interview lasted for around 15 mins and I was done…. Only call n I royally screwed up…All the best to the rest...


My advice here is
keep it cool.
stay with the topic
be a navigator n take the talks to a topic where u knw a lot
dont say things just cos u have to open ur mouth. U will be royally screwed
And
for essay, make sure that u finish it within 15 mins... need not be be a long essay but manage ur time and write down good points

hey guys, my GIM PI was today at the GIM campus in Goa. there was no GD.there was an essay instead.

Grad: Economics and psychology(still in college)

Essay topic: Imagination-a gateway to success in business.
we were give one sheet and fifteen minutes to write the essay.i found the topic quite interesting and hence was able to write pretty well.
two hours later my PI started.
P1:Mr Peter FX D'Lima- Former Director of GIM
P2: Mr Raghuveer Vernekar
P3:Ms. Nina jacob
I entered the conference room which was being used as the interview room.
me: good evening.
p2:good evening, what is the significance of your clothes today??
me:(stumped by this question, cause i was wearing black and a nice tie)..gave some random answer.
p3: so, since you ve studied Economics, im going to ask you and Economics question...what is the difference between the American banking system and the Indian banking system?
me:i answered wrt to the investment banks,glass steagall act, how american banks were reckles with loans as compared to indian banks, subprime crisis etc,cooperative banking system in India etc etc.
P3:so what can American banks learn from Indian banks?
me:lending policies,values etc etc
p2:(who was looking at my file all along suddenly looks up) So what is an indifference curve?
me:gave answer..
p3:give an example using this cup of tea on the table..
me:sir, they'll have to be two different kinds of tea.
p1:so you dont know that there are different kinds of tea??
me:yes sir i do, us and proceeded to explain.
p3:what do you think of Barack Obamas stimulus package?
me:said how it will help banks wipe troubled assets of thier sheets, how small businesses will be able to revive themselves,how consumers will spend more etc etc.
p1:But some republicans criticized the plan?why do you think so and wht were these criticisms?
me:i said how obama is playing the role of a socialist govt etc etc
p1:so all republicans are capitalists and democrats are socialists?
me:not all sir, and their political views are across a spectrum.
p3:tell us something about the monetary policy and fiscal policy?
me:explained about CRR,repo rate etc of monetary policy and taxation and expenditure of fiscal policy.
p1:what is a fiscal deficit?:
me: (blundered here by answering that it was when expenditure is greater than revenue)
p1:so then what is a revenue deficit??
meh yes sir, that is a revenue deficit.
p2:so what were your units in psychology in the first year?
me: ( i could barely remember what i studied in my second year) gave some vague answer and then said i could nt recall the rest...
p3: so You ve been to the Asian games?
me:yes sir.
p3:thats good.congrats. (smiles all around)
p1k thats it. you can leave now.thank you.
p2:thank you.all the best!

all in all it was a relatively short interview of only fifteen minutes as compared to others who were before me and who took almost half an hour on average.
anyway GIM seniors let me know what you guys think.

Here comes the detailed version…(however have edited as much as I cud)

Venue- Gim Campus (fabulous place):xmas:
Time- 8.45 am

I reached ther 1 hr in advance.. n like a fool realised was the first one, some GIMians… were brushing,.. some were roaming half awake… n I in a coat/blazer felt completely out of place.

There were a few newspapers kept there n I started browsing thru them.. other students started coming by 8.15 or so. Thank god there wer many others in coats n blazers. Met two pagalguys there…:detective:

Total no. of students present-13 (4 gals, 9 boys):new_Llol:

At sharp 8.45 we started. A two line intrduction about GIM was given, they stated the rules for writing essay – don’t make bullet points, if u do we wont even be considered for the interview. :eyepop: They said it’s the writing style that matters and not the content.

Essay- cudnt ask for anything better-

“SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE- HAS INDIA BEEN PORTRAYED IN THE REAL SENSE”

Firstly I introduced the oscar awards that it has won. The storyline in brief.
Then mentioned some statistical figures- poverty this much % in bihar,this much in orissa, regional imbalances. Blah blah
Agri setor not coming up, incentives nahi hai- even tho it employs this % of workforce,constitutes that much GDP. Blah blah…
Unemployment figure- this rate, that rate….kyun ho raha hai, govt ko kya karna chahiye..
Finally concluded by giving my view..
most of the students completed one side of the pg….(I wrote one and quarter)

then realised for the fourth for the interview, btw pls get names of two references.. because u are asked to fill that info.

INTERVIEW PANEL:
P1- Peter F.X. D’Lima ( a real sweetheart)
P2- Vithal S. Sukhathankar (IT guy- also knws a lot bout engg stuff)
P3- Ajit Parulekar ( pharma background- I m a b.pharm) :eyepop:

(interview time- 10-12 mins)
The first guy (BE) was royally grilled.. with no hr ques like why mba.. not even describe urself…
All questions were technical. Although he had work ex of 1.5 yrs, they dint ask him anything on that, he even mentioned that he has gr8 extra-curriculars, but in return they told him that he has ONLY extracurriculars…!!!

(interview time- 12-15 mins):xmas:
2nd was a gal from delhi (BE in textiles)…
she was asked to tell bout herself…
but then again they asked technical ques like what is inflation,recession, how has it hit textiles industry-
after some ques she gave up n honestly told them that she doesn’t know.

(interview time- 7-10 mins)
3rd was a gal from goa.
Very simple and soft spoken gal.
No one wud feel like grilling her and after asking her some standard questions, they left her.

Since I was the 4th I was made to wait outside.
I was fidgettin a lot, trembling,
felt like I have forgotten how to smile,
felt like as if a lead block had been dropped into my stomach,
felt like there is a cage around my lungs,
n I have lost capability of even breathing
(I guess u guys understand the state)

There was a guy outside the conference room who was responsible for sending students in at the right time, was checking our certi, etc… he realised my uncomfortness, n came to me, that small chat really helped me, I told him that this was the first interview of my life… blah blah…he told me not to worry n be urself, be truthful an honest with them.
I was joking with him n asking as to why the panelists r grilling everyone so much…. Bad coffee???:robot:
He laughed, patted on my back n told me to give my best. I was very motivated n I think overperformed… :eyepop:

Me- I come from blah blah family (pura family story bataya). Then forgot what to say. Said I love reading novels. Fan of so n so author.

P1- tel me bout the last book u read.
Me- so n so by this author. I like him becoz of so n so…. I went on n on… :detective:he got a phone call n had to stop.

P2- ok so tell me y did u take a break after ur 12th std. :confused:
Me- told them the truth.. wanted to BDS …but m a veggi… din like it… non-veg… in pharma had to cut fogs… used to tell the boys to do it for me… (P1, P3- laughing )

P3- tell me which was ur fav sub in final yr
Me- Pharmaceutics. I justified why.

P3-tell me bout pharmacokinetics..n many more ques on technical stuff mostly application based and many on my research proj. (around 4-5 ques)
Me- told him as far as I cud remember… he asked me on clarification, I explained… he nodded…finally ( am not sure whether I answered correctly )

P3-why dint u go to an industry
Me-explained them ki wahan pe sab SOP ke anusar hota hai, koi creativity nahi..blah blah

P2- tell me why u dont want to do m.pharm, y mba…
Me- gave an stupid ans in the beginning.. bout me being a woman.. cant waste 2 yrs doing m.pharm n then mba… I have a short time to establish my dream. They din like my ans very much :eyepop: so then I explained them for 10 mins bout my plans n goals…(its pharma related). They found many faults. i tried my best to clarify…..
