Ohk now reached YMCA at 7:45 AM ... was not given entry till 8:20....

finally we went in n sat in the audi on the first floor..

a faculty member entered n told us we are divided into 2 panels whose lists have been put up... he took our attendance n asked us to proceed to the assigned room. I was to go to the Glass room ... we had 12 ppl in out panel..

we enter the room .. the two panelist were already seated... the asked us to take our seats and then they introduced themselves

1. Mr. P. Saravanan- finance. ( a very sweet person ... very polite )
2. Mr. S. Anand - finance ( jolly person)

The briefed us about the process.. and gave a brief into. abt GIM and then answered our queries.

Then they handed out the essay sheets and told us that we have 15 min to write the essay in less than 350 words.

The Topic was " A nation like us ( say India/ones country ) is not ready for Globalization.":death:

i wrote abt 1 1/4 page .

Then we were asked to wait outside and the first candidate in the panel was asked to come inside after 5 min.

i was 11th number on the panel.

ppl went in came out 1 by 1 .. the average time for an interview was 15-18 min.

the feedback were that the panel is very cool. they r not grilling ( made me comfortable after my massacre at FORE)

they were asking the basics of grad. n frm IT ppl the features OF windows vista was their fav ques.

i told the answer to this ques to all the 5 candidates that went before me :angel:

then came my turn :nervous: and i was scared coz both panelists were Finance expertise n i cannot even talk abt finance. goes above my head.

i knocked and went inside .. at that moment Mr. Saravanan went outside.

( Mr. S Anand would be SA , Mr. Saravanan would be PS and myslef SM)

SM: Pl may i come in ?
PS: pl do.
SM: good morning sirs.
SA: good morning Shreyeeeee.
SM: its shreye sir with a silent E.

Hi Guys!!

Can any one tell me who all are there in the panel which is interviewing the Mumbai candidates? I am from a computer engineering background and wanna know if someone from the panel can grill me on it.
My interview is on 6th...so it would be gr8 if some one can tell me by tomorrow...tht will give some hrs to go through the main fundas atleast...

hai guys. Had my interview on 04 March at 01:45 at bangalore.

Our essay topic was "Education and Success : Is there a correlation ?"

We had the question answer session in which some questions about foreign collabrations, placements etc were asked. On a question regarding the fresher to experienced ratio, Prof.Ranjini gave her views as follows " freshers are not focussed, they dont know what they want. i see many freshers coming over to gim and not knowing what to do. if their specialization is finance, then they dont listen to marketing lectures and dont pay attention". though she was telling all this with regard to some specific student she had in some previous year, it was as if she was talking about all freshers. then she said ya.. we would like to see more experienced ppl at gim and finally as if to give some respite to freshers she added.. "as freshers, if u are focussed and know why you want to do your mba then we would like to have you at gim ":crazyeye:

My slot was actually on 6th march and as i had rescheduled my slot, i was among the last three ppl to attend the PI. it was already 8.15 P.M by the time i went in. This being my first interview i was already nervous and during my interview there was a power cut twice which added to my tension..

Panelists : Ranjini Mam and the Consumer Behavior ( he teaches this subj, don remember his name. Check out in the gim prospectus. Young man with french beard ) Sir

after i went in, first mam asked tell about urself, ur family background
me : myself, pursuing final year of engg ( both look at me as if i ve done a crime by coming for the GD PI ) father businessman, mom homemaker
mam : what business
me : textiles, lately ventured into readymades
mam : why did u do Engg if u wanted to join fathers business. why not b.com or bba ?
me : technology needed in every business. thought would help and moreover would add more values to me compared to b.com or bba
mam : why do u need to do engg for thst. u could have done a course at niit for that. why didnt u do textile engg. ?
me : only after joini engg, i realised what i wanna do and stuff.

they werent too satisfied. moreover, i guess they were tired as it was nearly 11 hours since they were non stop continuously taking interviews.

mam : k. so u ve done comp. sci. engg.
me yes mam
some technical questions followed. firewall, embedded systems etc..
me : goofed up. said the right answer but used some wron words which they caught n started grilling..

finally,
mam : any achievements ?
me : blah blah..first time in the interview i spoke for two to three mins without interruption.
mam : ok. done. u may leave

my interview was rather short, only about 10 to 15 mins. m sure that i am not in.

jus be prepared for the question WHY MBA and if u r telling, u wanna start business, be prepared for the question " Why dont you hire MBA's then ? "

Here goes my complete experience

Today i had my interview at
Ymca mumbai
1:45 pm slot.
B. Pharm : 69 %
xth : 87.2
xiith : 82.83

it was ek chalees ki last local scenario for me. I had my college exams getting over at 12:00 and in any damn case i had to reach colaba from vashi at 1:45 pm. Actually a day before i did send my sis there to ask whether if i get late by 10 minutes would they allow me. The answer was no. Then what, i was running just like those bomb squad people run in 'a Wednesday' to diffuse the bomb at opposite police headquarters and the coincidence is that it ymca is situated just opposite to the same police headquarters...! But, when i reached exactly at 1:55. there i came to know that morning interviews werent over by then. The process started at 2:15. They had an essay in the morning about 'should IPL be postponed or the elections?' so i thought we would have on sri lanka terrorist attack. And the topic was terror.

Essay was not good, so it all depends now upon my interview.

Since i had my interview rescheduled, mine was the Last among 32 people.

Panel 1: sengupta sir n
vernekar sir

panel 2: balasubramanium sir (bs) n mirchandani sir.

I was completely bored. Spent time talking to other candidates, Studying for the next day's college exam, slept for a while, ate something, had a chat with the GIM finance manager who was the organiser there. 2 gim alumni came there and talked about the institute and about the panel. Actually ymca also has a hostel and they were workin in mumbai and staying there. Even the panel is having a stay at ymca itself. 3 4 5 6 and at 7 when everyone was gone i had my interview.

At about 6 pm Mirchandani Sir (MS) was bored and came out.... He saw the alumni and started talkin to him...
" I am damn bored. almost 90% of the people are engineers... mechanical, it, extc and all of them are either from INFY or TCS or WIPRO... need something different man..."
He even asked a girl " you also belong to the same category?". "YES" came the reply and MS again said "see". I was sitting at a distance from him so he couldnt ask me the same thing and I was relieved a bit that I have a different background.......

The girl who had the 2nd last interview came out and told that the first thing she was asked to do was
"ENTERTAIN US....!"
She sang a song and also told me to prepare a joke or something as she had already sang a song....
I thought whether I had gone there for a ROADIES interview or what...?


ME (opening the door): May I come in sir?
BS: No, YOU may not come... we are having a look at your profile...SO WAIT..

I waited there for 2 minutes and then was callled in... They looked very tired it was obvious from their faces

even before sitting on the chair..
BS: This guy doesnt resemble the one in photograph (they have the complete profile which we submitted at XAT)
ME: It's me only sir
Somewhere I got a hint that it is gonna be a stress interview and later I realized it was...!
In the meantime MS went to the other room where panel 1 was sitting

BS: OK what does your surname mean?
ME: Told them...sorry...him...

BS: So you had your interview scheduled in the morning, why did you reschedule it?
ME: Told about my college exams...

MS came back

BS: Which exams?
ME: Final Yr b. pharmacy periodic exams

MS: B. Pharm...? I thought you were b. com.
ME:.....?

BS: Where is your college?
ME: told

both were mumbaikars...so they knew about it

MS: And where do you stay?
ME: told

MS: So, for what reason you go for colleging there?
ME: Told that it was a good college thats why I wnt there

BS: So, what are the new treatments coming up in pharmacy?
ME: Asked for specifications... actual patient related or market related

BS: Patient related?
ME: Told about Novel Drug delivery systems (NDDS)

MS again went to the other room

BS: what are they?
ME: Explained and gave eg. Mucoadhesive DDS

BS: What are they?
ME: Explained the principle behind it...

BS: So, what are the new treatments coming up in pharmacy?
(Y was he asking the same question again...?)
ME: Again asked for specifications...told about NDDS like liposomes nanoparticles biological products like antibodies...which are given as injections...

BS: what are the new treatments coming up in pharmacy?
ME: now told about the marketing part of it and than about lifestyle diseases....mutations...climate change and increasing infections

BS: OK CUT THE CRAP..!
(I dont know what to interpret out of it...was my 1st stress interview...the questions came even before i completed the previous answer and that made me very nervous...seniors and puys please give some reviews on this)

BS: Why do you want to do an mba?
ME: told a general answer.. technical pharma and management expertise combo would be very good...

BS: YA.. THIS ANSWER T.I.M. PROFESSOR TOLD YOU TO GIVE, RIGHT...!
ME: (Got the shock of my life...never expected this response) NO....SIR

BS: OK TEL ME YOUR GOAL
ME: told again a general answer again and got the same response...

BS: OK, what does your father do..?
ME: Told about jewellery store

MS came again

BS: (to MS) So, we HAVE ANOTHER JOHRI HERE...(1 more candidate had the same story)
BS: (TO ME) If you do an MBA who will run that shop, what about your brother...what does he do?
ME: told the matter

BS: OK NOW..its late and we are tired and you are done... you can leave
MS: thanked them

GIM is 1 of the only 3 calls i have got... and its gone...

my GIM Interview Exp.

Venue: IIM Bangalore
Slot: 4/3/09 1.45 p.m


First and foremost I had a hard time finding the GIM interview location at iim as u have a few more interview going on out there..so just reach a bit early to avoid any last minute delay..as soon as i reached the interviews of the morning slot were still goin on...people were a bit tensed and the biggest question to be asked was y mba....

Met some puys out there like kalpesh and piyush...and had a good gyaan session with them. Finally at 3 pm our process was started...

We were called in the panel comprised of 2 people...
1. Ranjini Mam.
2. Barnabas Sir..(Marketing prof.)

We were told about GIM.. got a brief detail about faculty...also they said about the placement scenario...it was nice to hear that more than 60% of the batch is placed and rest of the placement is goin on...also they shared that the avr package is same as last year...which is really good in present scenario...kudos GIM..

Also they gave a brief about the student excahnge program they have with 2 colleges one at antwerp and another one in portugal...which was good...

Finally after the knowledge sharing we were given our topic...
"Education and Success. Is there a correlation"

Wrote a bit about it....essay was ok so finally relieved about tht..

As i was second on the list so hardly got a breather.....the first guy went in and was out in 15 min..as now it was my date with destiny...

Was called in..
Mam... Tell about urself and ur family.
me..Blah blah...said at lenght about me and my family..as my dad has a pharma background was quizzed about tht...which i defended well...

Mam...Was quizzed about my education..
Me...Said it...did my engg...etc..

Mam. Technical questions related to cfl lamps and tube lights...
Me...Answerd them but could have done better...

Mam.. Was quizzed about my job profile..
Me.. Explained abouit my profile as i am design engg..in infastructure....whats the job all about and the usual stuff...

As mam was asking most of the questions....barnabas sir was going through my file and certificates....

Mam... The biggest question y mba.
Me.. Said as i have more than 2 yrs of experince its a gradual transission for me ...also tols them about my plan to start up my own entreprenuerial initiative...puys if u say tht...be ready to be grilled about tht... Explaned was my objective and How gim can help me...Mam did try to convince me tht u dont need a mba to start a business....but had to explain..how the mba could help...

After they were done with questions they did explain me about gim and the learnings one can have at the institute...was nice to hear tht from them...

The interview lasted for around 25 min...so finally was out was grilled a bit but tht was expected..

After the interview had to give 2 references ...and there i was finally done with Gim...waiting for the results....

Best of luck for all u puys...just be cool and sell urself well...to the panel..
