Re: [2009] XLRI GD/PI Experiences - BM and PMIR - 18-04-2009, 03:29 AM

hello PUYS,
me too very sorry to be posting very late... but unlike others i highly doubt that it will help others next year cuz i don't think that the kinda questions i was grilled on wud be asked to anyone... (hopefully if someone has some sort of profile related to sports then they cud use some help from my post here)

COURSE : PMIR

ACADEMIC PROFILE:
10th 94.2 (CBSE)
12th 81.6 (CBSE)
B.Tech (ECE) CGPA then was 9.0

WORKEX- NIL (fresher)

VENUE: RAINTREE CHENNAI (very posh hotel)

So frens here it goes...the saga of my success (which i thought wud be the traumatizing story of my failure)

GROUP DISCUSSIONS

No. of participants:7
Duration: (5 min for thought process + 20 min for discussion)GD went on well. i spoke a lot of times and made some sense too.but everytime i made some sense it was something related to sports organisations only llike FIFA.the topic given was CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. 10 definitions were given and we had to arrange them in increasing order of priority. all in all it was not a fish market GD. i felt like i was already sitting among very civilised group of managers

PERSONAL INTERVIEW

P1: gud morning
me: (wished them back)
P2: why aint u sitting? waiting for a permission from us or wat (smiling).
me: Yes sir. i am kinda waiting for it. May I?
P1: okay make urself comfortable.
me:thank u sir

sat on the hotseat. passed smiles to all of them thinking that "yaar ab meri zindagi ka faisla aap hi log ko karna hai"

P2:so temme how was the GD?
me:it was fine sir. (interrupted)
P1:y do u think so?
me: hmmm. bcoz sir i think that there were only 7 of us in a group. so that increased each one's share of time. moreover everyone spoke out quite a lot and i think some or the other idea from each one of us was accepted by the group. all in all it wasn't a fish market sort of GD at all.
P3: (smiling) y do u call it a fish market ?
me:
hmmm bcoz when ppl start shouting and screaming in a GD. the situation starts resembling a fish market wherein vendors also shout and scream in the same way.i think may be this cud be the reason behind that.
P3:(smiling again) have you ever visited a vegetable market?
me:
yes sir. a lot of times.
P2:why isn't it called a veg market GD? why is it specifically called a fish market? and pls dont tell me that ppl dont shout at all in vegetable market cuz everyone knows they do!!!
me:dumbstruck (hmmm bcoz in a fish market everyone is selling fishes and just fishes nothing else whereas in a vegetable market ppl sell all kinds of vegetables. same way in a GD we are supposed to talk over a given single topic. hence a closer analogy can be drawn with the fish market as compared to the veg market)

ROFL....

P1:so where are u from?
me:BALCO, Chhattisgarh. my father is an employee in BALCO plant.
P1:BALCO was all over the NEWS sometime back rite? do u have any idea why was it so?
me:in 200x blah... bcoz of it's disinvestment and privatization.
P1:remember any official related to the process.
me: ARUN SHOURIE
P1: tell us something abt him.
me:(told)
P1:he has written some books also rite? u know any of his work?
me:WORSHIPPING FALSE GODS...it's abt B.R.AMBEDKAR..blah blah blah
P2:any specific step taken by the new management after privatization?
me: told them abt some schemes. esp a scheme for VR.
(seemed satisfied)
P2:tell some other public sector companies that perform well in the market?
me: ONGC,IOCL,HPCL
P3:
ever heard of NAVRATNA?
me: sorry sir i never did !
P2:okay leave that which subject do u like most?
me: upto 10th i used to like MATHS and after 10th i got more inclined towards PHYSICS.
P2:grilled me on several topics related to Physics which started from the very basic Newton's Laws, covered various others like the Dual Theory of Light, Geocentric Theory, Heliocentric Theory and several others and ended up with me not telling them wat is BOYLE'S LAW (oh god! how stupid i felt).
P1:(was glancing thru my Engg gradesheet all this time)so u have studied a course named "HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SKILLS for 4 semesters i.e for nearly 2 years. what did u study in that?
me:(how cud i have said him that it was a blank compensation course) i started like "sir it was more of a practical sort of course. we were taught how to do well in GDs PIs and all. all those stuffs which cud prove helpful for placements during campus selections.
P3: (smiling) so is this the way you perform in a GD?
me:yes sir. i think so i have done well. (interrupted)
P3:and y do u think so? can u pls share that with us?
me:bcuz sir i think i spoke out all the ideas i had in my mind then and some of them were readily accepted by the group too. and as i sit here i don't have any regret that "i shud have spoke this or that"..thats y i think it was a nice GD for me.
P3:(smiling)so this is wat u call ur nice performance? and this after studying GD skills and all for two years?
me: (smiling and in the most humble way) pardon me sir but i still do think the same. may be if u wud have met me when i didnt do these courses then u wud have found me even worse. so i think this was a good GD. Nevertheless i will try to improve it in future as thr is room for improvization everywhere.
(everyone laughing and seemed impressed)
P1:
Okay u may leave now.
(just when i was going to stand up P2 started again
P2:so u play sports rite? why did u leave sports after joining ur college?
me:excuse me sir but i have never left sports in my life. i have represented my UNIVERSITY's team in Volleyball and Football. I have even attached the certificates in the folder.
P1: So u r the one who spoke something about FIFA in ur GD rite! what is FIFA?
me:
(told)
P1:who is the chairperson of FIFA?
me: (told)
P1: what is UEFA? who is the president of UEFA?
me: (told both)
P1: whats the difference between FOOTBALL and SOCCER?
me: (told)
P3:Okay we are done. You may leave now. Thank You !
me:thank u sirs !

PHEW !!! it was over !!!

VERDICT: SELECTED

Hey everyone...
Name: Akriti Dharendra
10th: 83%
12th: 835
Grad (philosophy Hons.): 58.9%
Work Ex.: None
Extra Curricular: ok

Venue; YWCA, Delhi....6th March.

Profs; Munish Thakur, DS Broca, M Shukla

GD; 9 of us were present out of the 10 called. Gandhiji's preachings were given n we had to rank them according to their importance in present times. was good. we were all pretty calm. managed ranking the first five.

Interview. (i was 7th to go in)

1. first part revolved around philosophy (under-graduation subject).
2. the books i read, or like to read (randomly drifted to this bit frm philosophy).
3. why pm-ir (almost a standard question. only dresses up differently most times.)
4. about film-making, which i'd mentioned as my long term goal (questionnaire).

it was around 15-20 mins. even managed to make them laugh at points.

i think being honest with myself, and with them did the trick. n ofcourse, politeness n respect pays.

verdict: converted.
best of luck to everyone who reads this.
