[quote=raveeshmohan;1404600]Dear Spidy/Saurabh,
increase in the number of OBC seats ensures that there are several seats up for grabs for the general category candidates which otherwise they wouldve had to fight out with the OBC candidates. This increase therfore makes things favourable for the general category candidates as well. hope that makes things amply clear. Kindly ensure that you do not start bad mouthing a prestigious institue just to vent out some displeasure. We at SJMSOM are a very proud batch and we take great pride in being SOMites and it may be some charged up SOMite who mightve felt offended with one of your posts, it was not intended to 'blackmail' you or cause 'emotional atyachar' as you decided to put it without understanding the underlying

All offenses taken....but my friend...I have seen some OBC candidates applying in gen category when they have got a good AIR...Just an analysis over here...I am not here to vent out my frustration..please take it in a positive sense and dont look it from just one perspective...SJMSOM will always be a brand....even with a fee hike

Dude if you get your SJMSOM shifted to the 6th then you can do both nmims and iit b together in mumbai and then go to delhi for the 8th. What say? IIT B will get you interview rescheduled, you got to drop a mail to admissions@som.iitb.ac.in, actually i have asked to shift my interview from 6th to 8th for similar reasons, so if you drop a mail now...you can get it shifted to the 6th. Its up to you

Re: SJMSOM GD/PI List Out: Discussion and Queries - 12-02-2009, 04:39 PM

Regarding the fee hike issue, I would like to know is IIT B free to take this decision without approval from HRD ministry?. I mean I want to know that is it final or still any stage of approval is left?

If it is final then only thing we can do is forget the issue for few days and then if we convert our calls then pursue this matter in every possible manner and every relevant forum.

Also I would like to know that has the structure been revised for students of 2008-10 batch also?

And finally one request to the current students, it would be very kind if you convey the situation being faced by aspirants to the authoties which made this decision(I am not sure whether you will get that oppurtunity). Its not anger, its not depression but its a heavy feeling of helplessness similar to the one experienced by someone who works hard and saves to buy a house of 20 lacs but when he is very close he is told that the house now costs Rs 80 lacs.

I would probably not discuss the issue anymore till I convert the call(if I am able to) but fellow aspirants lest we forget this and pursue this with full force later!!!

Hi,
We as students do understand the anxiety and the feeling of helplessness as you put it. Fee hike is a decision which has been taken by the authorities and we cannot comment on it as a matter of policy which has been decided by the Admissions Committee. I would suggest you prepare well for the GD/PI and not get bogged down by things which are not in our/your hands. Kindly note that the fee hike has been brought about after following the proper course and is directed towards the overall development of SJMSOM which we as students also support since we are aware of how the institute gets benefitted by the hike. Lets keep the fee hike issue to that and not get into details. Looking at things in a different light- Once you are here, the exposure, the experience, networking opportunities, the chance to be actively involved in making key decisions and the excellent placement opportunities that come your way along with the IIT brand name(which trust me is huge and you'll realise that only once you are here) ensures that you are on your path to success. We understand that fees is a major point of consideration while deciding on a particular college but it is not the only criteria, there is much more to a college than just fees.

Raveesh Mohan

The revised fees is 2lakh + per semester, according to the website.
I hope there are only 4 semesters.
Have they increased the number of semesters also??:sly:

Re: SJMSOM GD/PI List Out: Discussion and Queries - 12-02-2009, 06:24 PM

Hi All,
First of all congratulations to all GD/PI call getters...
A post from my side on PG after a long time, so bit of intro of myself ...
I am a second yr student at SJMSOM & was closely associated with the admissions process here last time.
Wanted to post here regarding preparations for GD/PI but saw much more discussion on fee hike.....so will post on GD/Pi later & on fee hike first...

Well no doubt for aspirants it's certainly a bad news, but the way discussion is going on here does not reflect the proper spirit. When a decision as important as hiking the fees is taken in a government institute like IIT B, one thing is assured that it has the backing of all concerned authorities.
Now when authorities take such an important decision obviously they would consider all the possible effects that it would make, to be precise whether students will prefer SJMSOM or not..
well, no doubt fees is an important decision criterion while choosing the B-school but certainly not the most important. Placements & the opportunities you would get after MBA are the most important followed by faculties, curriculum, available infra, the peers & yes the fees as well....
SJMSOM with its relatively low batch strength & good brand name has constantly provided good opportunities to its students after MBA. Over the period of time it has shown equal strength in all other parameters mentioned above. Comparatively lower fees was certainly additional benefit till last year. but certainly not the only benefit that IIT B provides.

So how much this fee hike will impact, only time will tell. But ideally decision should not be taken only on one parameter.

@All call getters: It's too early to think over this issue. Once you convert the call & have to take final decision, you can always contact senior people in any college doing MBA, have individual views & then take informed call.

@spidy_rules: Your intentions might be good, but the way you put them was certainly wrong. In process, you unknowning & unnecessorily derogated other good institue, IIT D as well, as anybody would think you are directly/indirectly connected with it. The way you mentioned the whole thing, anybody would think you have something against SJMSOM.

It's public forum dude. Calls this time has gone above 400 ranks. What if by your logic people had gone by last year's trend & people with 400 rank had not applied? Have you shown the same irritation, in same language, if you had got SJMSOM call? For any institute, if people are within close range of last year's cut-off they do apply to institute & it's logical only. Even you did the same & nothing wrong in it. After putting so much efforts & money for coaching classes/mock-series, being so close to get a call, anybody would & should apply to the best institute he wants to get in.
So we take your 'good' intentions as they are & leave the matter aside. All the best to you & hope you would get into your dream institue.

Let's keep the discussion here on track. i.e. GD/PI preparation & queries. I would try & put some personal thoughts on the process here & the preparation on it as soon as possible.

~Prasad

Re: SJMSOM GD/PI List Out: Discussion and Queries - 12-02-2009, 07:24 PM

i know its a bad time to enter....tempers running high here...

i've got to talk about 2 issues..

1 i need a change in date...i've been called on 8th march...1 30 pm...have another call that day....reading from previous posts...i have to write a mail to some id...will do that now itself...but my q is...will it effect my chances of being selected? ...bcoz the other institute is a back up for me...if i dont get iit mumbai...dont wanna loose iit mumbai bcoz of that call...

2nd thing is abt d fee hike...one of the worst effected candidates will be me...parents retired...leaving my job and applyin to iit...if i get selected ...have to pay entire amount by loan...really tensed abt that...i know its a well thouight decision by the management and being students of som..u puys completely support it...we dont even understand the complexities involoved...i'm not against or protesting the fee hike....just 1 thing i feel (my personal opinion) from 2 to 8 lakhs is a bit too much...anyways...its not that big an amount that i'l stop preparing....
iit mumbai will still be my first choice...even if they rise it to 16 lakhs
