Re: [2009-2010] Great Lakes GD PI Experiences - 20-02-2009, 03:22 PM

Here goes my GD/PI exp......

Place - Mumbai , 11 30 AM slot.

Wait wait wait... Called for PI at 1:10
2 panelists (don't know their details)

Q. What made u shift from TCS to XYZ?
A. Wasnt interested in coding, wanted more of a business / domain specific role, client interaction vagera.
Q. Wouldnt u get all that in TCS too (client interaction)?
A. Was more inclined to Req Analysis than coding for a specific requirement. spoke abt details of my role here.
Q. Are u satisfied?
A. Yes
Q. Then y MBA?
A, As a BA wat i lack is the fundamentals of how business is run, so lot of time goes towards understanding the core business first before diving to the task.
Q. That doesnt require a MBA, even after MBA u need to understand the business first, isnt that a part of Req Gathering itself? For EG if BSE wants to outsource some part of their IT then?
A. Said REq Gathering is different from understanding or knowing the fundamentals, took his example and said u need to know how stock excahnges work, wat are the products which can be traded, who are stake holders etc.
(Didnt seem to be totally convinced but didint extend his Qs)
Q. Then y GLIM.
A. told how 1yr course is ideal for me ,so out of ISB and GLIM I preferred GLIM.
Q. Said there are other colleges as well (offering 1yr prg).
A. Said the growth GLIM has shown under Prof Bala, highly ranked by aspirants etc. And since the current avg work ex is 44 months I think my profile was better suited for GLIM.
Q. Wats the difference betn transitional and transformational leaders? (wrote that in essay ) Examples?
A. Told , Dhirubhai Ambani, how he revolutionized Textile industry etc.....
Q. Who do u think is an example of a transitional leader?
A. Ratan TATA.
Q. Money and Power wale essay pe some Qs.
Q. If driven by money is justified,
A. YEs
Q.UR hobbies include travelling, asked places visited recently.
A. bla bla,
Q. With?
A. Friends blah blah.
Q. Nature lover
A. Yes
Q. Who is vice president of India
A. Answered
Q. Who is governer of gujarat
A. Dont know
Q. Wat was the motive behind satyam. Money or power.
A. Gave some fundas... Competition , their ops margin.
Q. Interrupted, money or power
A. MOney , thats wat i feel.
Q. Who is present CEO of Satyam
A. Answered
Thats it thanks

Overall it was ok, lasted hardly 15 min. didnt grill much, and had a plane face all through. Cant say how it was but couldnt showcase even 50 % potential . no Qs on work related (finance, capital markets) and thankfully none on engg too .

GD
-------

again 2 panelists.
Divided the group in 2 (5,6 each) and said we will have a debate.
Asked one group (6 members, 2 gals) that they have to support that current Indian team has changed a lot and have the potential to be the best.
Asked us (5 guys) to oppose.
Gave 1 min to recollect our thoughts.
And then CHANGED the topic. Said "Should hockey be our national sport" , decide (shoot , no time to think).
Total fish market, average content, some good points were also there but didnt make any significant impact as everybody was rushing to speak.
I only made 1 statement to moderate the group, reminding of the task at hand and some key parameters on which we should decide if it should be our national sport. Was waiting to speak again (7 min gone) and he interupted ---
Lets go back to our original topic
Everybody started jumping again, couldnt speak for the entire 7 min inspite of making repeated attempts (had some really good points which nobody touched) :( and then they asked us to stop and leave.

Neither of the GD were conclusive niether they asked us to summarize etc.

Then the psyco test
Thats all I guess, was free by 3
------------------------------------------------

How it was? Dont know
GD was bad to say the least, didnt even get a chance to prove my silence.
PI - they didnt show any reaction. no grilling. just a casual chat.

Wait for the result begins :(

Edit -
Initially wait listed but now CONVERT ... Joining

Aniruddha

Re: [2009-2010] Great Lakes GD PI Experiences - 20-02-2009, 11:25 PM

Hi Puys
Had my interview today and it was a great joy ride.

(New Delhi)
Time Slot - 12:15 PM

Round 1 : Pshycometric Test ( 12:45 PM)

I took around 6-7 minutes to complete those 69 very simple and basic questions. :detective:

Round 2 : Group Discussion ( 2:00 PM) - 2 moderators were present in the room and we were a batch of 8 people.

Topic : Deepti is a CEO of an airline company and has to cut downthe overhead costs. She has
the following options to be presented to the finance department of the company.
1) Lay off 10% of the lower performers
2) Reduce Retirement Benefits by 30%
3) Increase the shifts of employees by an hour
4) Cut Salary of employees by 10%

Q1 Which option would Deepti choose ?
Q2 Which option would draw the most -ve feedback ?

We are given 5 minutes to think, 15 minutes to discuss

I started the GD averting the prospective fish market scenario and gave an OK start.Few
guys chipped in with their view points. I made 2-3 decent attempts and co-concluded the GD

End Result :
Q1 : 3rd option
Q2 : 1st option

Round 3: Personal Interview ( 3:30 PM) - 2 panelists ( P1/P2)

P1 was asking questions while P2 kept staring at me.I thought he was reading my essays all this while I was talking to P1.
I was asked about leadership roles, my current role in the organization, problems faced by IT in recession and how to curb them down.P2 was still numb.

Short term and long term goals were the only standard questions asked.

Finally P2 woke up and asked me how will IT revive the current eco-downturn.

The interview was very relaxing and felt great to have slogged those hard earned 25 mintues.

Kudos to Great Lakes team -Sailesh, Anurag, Aditya and Sumit for puting up a good show.

Hope this helps.

ATB to all others who are appearing for their interviews
