@dibaka: These are the ways people adopt to find cutoffs:
(1)Their own estimate, based on how they perceive the level of difficulty, combined with their perception of junta's capability. This method is obviously inaccurate.
(2)Method 1 combined with discussion with peers. Improved accuracy, but still, not accurate enough.
(3)Method 2, with added info from more students. This is the method used by coaching centers. This should be theoretically more accurate. However business priorities of the coaching center would drive the results away from what can be a half-decent representation of reality. Coaching centers may publish a number too low so that they can lure students into joining their GD/PI course.
It can also be the other way round. They may print cut offs that are too high to demoralize students from other coaching institute. Your average bloke may think that CL/Time/IMS publishing high cutoffs may mean that CL/IMS/TIME students perform better. That might make him want to join CL/IMS/Time next year.
Also, do not forget that all the 3 methods rely on receiving data from students. Do not forget that very few students are honest about their low attempts. Also, the ones who do really well tend to stay behind the iron curtain. They probably do this because they think that revealing their attempts may jinx their chances.
The only true source of info is all the OMRs and the criteria used by the institute. Both aren't accessible. Thus...patience.
