Re: Prepare with FMS 100 Percentiler -

Hi maxpadhaku and other seniors,
I have some queries regarding FMS:-
1) Yesterday i went through the previous year FMS exam, i felt that the Verbal was on tougher side. Please guide us how to prepare for the verbal section, i have already covered Barons Word List but i was still not able to answer a lot of questions. Please suggest which books i should read in order to improve in verbal section.
2) What should be the strategy one should follow while attempting RC section.
3) What were your no. of attempted questions last year.
Looking forward to some useful insights.........

HI Max and other Seniors
This is my second attempt of FMS..Last time i think i did well..but didnt get the call...
As with all other Puys over here i too have the same doubt..How many Qns u guys attempted..whats the mark u got atleast approximately...
And if 50% ile minimun in every section is sufficient shall i concentrate on my strongest section and go for full carnage....
And from whr v van et the qns or words like
1.CICCERONE : SIGHTSEER
53. Which one is not a synonym of ‘devil’?
(1) Mephisto (2) Velavu
(3) Lucifer (4) Beelzebub
154. Calligraphy is to cartooning as gouache is to...
(1) baguette (2) chevron
(3) scumbling (4) beading
These are all the Words i have never come across before cming to FMS 2008 paper..Are we guys missing some materials ..?..I know the Same qns wnt repeat but Please give the Idea of where can v get this type of qns..I know its too difficult to read all the novels in the Next 20 days to get accoustmed with this type of word...
And ABove All the Most important thing we want to know
(Am repeating Again):..=Is 50 %ile in each section k...?
And whats the Score of some of u guys...?
I know they revealed only percentiles..but u might have calculated on your own..please send that info...

Sections Area No. of questions Attempts I
85 - 100
i fine split of questions with logical reasoning on the easy side and VA on the tougher side .. there was little higher maths with easy questions on limits and derivatives( so puys u can simply glance through the formulas of higher maths). vocab was intensive with some idiom based questions.. DI/DS was absent..
overall i would say try to work strength by strength with a motive to score maximum..

1) What was the OA cut off last year?
2) Idiom based questions..hmm.. how to practice for them in such a short span of time..I dont even have any grammar book..
3) Which topic is very frequent in Quant?
4) In extempore.. do topics are current affair based?
TIA

Extempore topics can be anything...
last year mine was....
IN THE MIDDLE OF PACIFIC OCEAN.............
for a second i was shocked ..how can they give it like that....
but still managed to relate it somehow...
later on i got to know tht my name SUSHANT----means SU-SHANT...which translates to someone who is always calm...and PACIFIC also means the same...
so guys...FMS profs are a master at that..donot go wid any fixed strategy..they are smarter than us all..

1. I attempted around 140 questions. out of that i think I had around 115 correct. From my friends, here in FMS, i believe that people who did 70-75 questions (all correct), got call from FMS last year.
2. The kind of vocab that came last year, was very difficult. Even if you have all Barons (GRE book) words on your tips, you will find yourself clueless.

VOCAB THING
From last year experience, i feel that vocab cramming does not help. (However VA @ FMS has been Vocab paper till year before that). But it is really tough ...Consider following questions:
Which is notsynonym of 'devil' ? Mephisto Velavu Beelzebub...
I simply do not understand how one can prepare for all this. I believe, at this point of preparation, more time should be devoted to strengthing other sections that vocab..One would easily find questions to get 50 percentile in VA...

1. QA cut off....no one can predict. However if you solve less than 30-35 questions in QA in FMS...your chances are remote....QA is a place to maximize score.
2. No short cut for this....you have to go through idioms....You don't have Grammar book..Buy it.
3. Let me see if i can spot a pattern...will get back on this in some time..
4. It can be anything...absolutely anything....

one of my friends in the 2006 season was given the topic A TOOTHPICK...
it left him quite amazed and a bit bewildered too...
