metonymy is like Substituting the name of an attribute or feature for the name of the thing itself for eg: as in 'they counted heads'...where instead of counting the number of students/ppl...they counted heads

Hey,

These are two examples that I thought explained them quite well:

Litotes: Its again a figure of speech which is used to refer to something by denying the opposite.

Instead of saying that the movie was good a litote would be where you say that the movie was 'not bad'. Or in another case instead of saying that its attractive you can say that it is not unattractive.

Metonymy: The top management has passed this rule ( Instead of saying the director or the Chairman we use the 'top management') . Thus its the usage of an alternative word which is connected to a particular thing.

There are so many in numbers and their name is also a bit weird to remember. Anyways trying to take out some which are compaparatively easy to remember.

Ya thats why i would suggest everyone to rather stay away from new stuff now as the exam is too close. The more you will read now, the more confused you will get. 175 questions honge test me, lots of chioces.so chill karo guys..Jitna kiya hai pehle make the best out of it, .I'm sure bahot kum log pure questions dekh bhi paenge 2 hours me..Maths wagara revise karo..

thr is no harm in learning new things..evn before xam too

Yaha kaun ye sab knowledge badhane k liye padh raha hain..ye to bas VA me 50%ile ke cut-off ko clear karne ka jugaad kiya ja raha hai..

Ya there's no harm, i agree, par ye figures of speech actually itne jyada hai and li'll complicated too, so i doubt any1 who is reading this for the first time would be able to retain so much in his/her head in 3 days (Unless he/she is Einstein)..these things need a lot of time in my view...ek baar padhlo..kaam aaya to acha hai nahi to bhi koi gal nahi..

haan ye to hai...ho jaana chahiye VA ka cutoff waise clear..coz if its tough it would be tough for almost all of the junta (Remember CAT2006 VA?) and the cutoffs wud come down and ye koi CAT XAT thodi na hai ke isme 90+ laana hai percentile and its evident from last years test-takers' experiences ke 50 %ile ke liye jyada marks nahi chahiye VA n RC me..

Hi all,

I think a nice work is going on....i believe that as most of us are engineers, we all hv learnt to stuady on last days only....so if u r getting some thing new beforehand, it will b going to help u.....so my suggetion & request to all is to continue this question asking exercise....

@shivani......i think u have last year actual paper wid u....can u plz provide that....or at least continue wid pouring out important(means tough) questions out here.....
