dude that's your opinion and you have every right to it. had you studied economics like we did in our first trimester, you would have realised that apart from the fees there are quite a few implicit costs that you incur when you decide to take up a PG course. for e.g. you loose the oppurtunity to earn a good salary for 2 yrs. so if you think 450000 is too high a fee, add 5-6 lac more to it that you could earn as salary in the 2 yrs you will pursue MBA. so that makes your ROI calculation for GIM or anyother institute even worse!!!
but, but, but .. just before you start getting pessimistic about the whole stuff, let me tell you that just like there are intangibles like implicit costs, there are intangibles that you get in return from a B-school too. That is, if you are willing to look beyond placements.
Being under experienced faculty, for example, can lead you think in ways that you never thought before. It just opens up your mind for the rest of your life. And this is something no B school can put in its brochure. This is something you can only experience once you are in G.I.M.
So, while an ROI in terms of avg salary and fees may not make you very happy, an ROI in terms of unquantifiables definitely puts G.I.M amongst the better B Schools of the country.

About cutoffs -->
last year cut off was 90.01 % in XAT . cut off varies every year and it depends upon relative performance among students who all hv filled GIM form. This year cut off may increase by 1-2%. so better be safe n target more thn 92%( thts my opinion) ...
As per fees and ROI , practically speaking ROI is not at all bad . avg sal of GIM in 2008 was 7.43 which bound to increase till ur time i.e 2011... in present situation many gud colls avg sal is same as tht of GIM but there fees is somewhere around 6.xx lakh ..... moreover IIMs has increased d bar of fees by hiking their fees , n most of the colls ll follow this hike . i used to think abt this fees hike as useless stuff (profit making ,etc) but now being part of the institute i hv realized tht increase in fees is justify n as niru said trust us ROI will be even higher for u ppl ....
best of luck

Depends on how well you do your GD-PI. We have a quite a few people in our batch from Commerce background sans work-ex. So, if you get past the GIM cut-off and do well in the GD-PI, you stand a good chance.

Sectional cutoffs -

Hi Sheldon,
I found the use of the word senior by you pretty amusing...Our seniors have juniors on campus, as in us...and we have juniors on the Cyberspace who call us seniors...lol!!
This abscence of sectionals thing was one of the prime reasons I got into GIM....I think they believe if you lose any of the three battles in DI or Verbal or Quant...but win the entire war and get enough overall...they are fine wid it.
Until last year there were no sectionals. And we really do not know about this year.
We will go and ask the college authorities regarding this.
Now in case the answer to this question is confidential, then we cannot tell you anything, but if it is not, the the college will disclose it on the application forms itself.
As of now you can rely on the past trend and assume no sectionals, and like we do in every MBA exam....prepare for any eventuality.
For updates, do watch this thread.
Warm rgards

Hi,
Can u guys pls give the batch profile at GIM like no. of ppl with wrkex and avg wrkex etc..
Also,I just went through the placement stats for 2008 on GIM website..
It says avg salary around 7.5 lac..
If possible can u give the breakup of these salalris figures like avg salary for a arnage of workex and for freshers.. so that we can have a clear picture..
Hope u got me question.

Saurabh

Here is my profile
X - 71
XII 86
B Com - (Cant even tell...I have reputation to protect at GIM)
M Com - (jaane bhi do yaaron)
Out and out co curriculars guy, with a big stack of certificates.
No Work ex, but little bit part time.
I had taken one full year break after I screwed my GIM GD PI in 2007, just to be in this place again.
Moral of the story
You have a fine profile. All you need to do is crack the XAT and then prepare well for GD PI. and by prepare well I mean actually practice GD with your friends. I have been taking GD workshops in my old graduation college and I will mail you the GD prep material if u PM me.
But A caveat.
See, agar koi non B Com yeh baat bolta toh mara mari ho jata tha....
but I will say it. There is a clear INVERSE RELATIONSHIP between the quality of a B School and the number of B Com (Non CA B Com ok) you find in the batch. In Creme de la creme....%age of B Coms may ofen be in Single Digits, then slightly higher is Top non IIM B schools, and then in Places like GIM...approx 15% if I am not mistaken. So I do not wanna give you any false hopes, we are up against an army of engineers(whose numbers increase with quality of the B School) wanting to gobble up your seat.
The silver lining is that if you are getting those 15% seats(Its my calculation ok not some rule at GIM), you need to prove yourself most worthy of of it. And you will not be denied your seat after all there is not a SINGLE RESERVATION OR PAID SEAT IN GIM.
The Rough Batch Profile
75 ODD ENGINEERS
25 B Coms and BBA's approx
20 Arts and Pure Sciences
One thing that we are very sure of is that GIM looks for variety in the batch. So enough workex, Fresh daisies, Engineers, B Coms, pure sciences and arts people will be selected. We got 2 Doctors in our batch!!!
Finally, If I am REALLY not mistaken, a B Com might top in my division....(unfortunately its not me!!!!)
B Coms...rise and apply!!!!

Hey Snape,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I am of goan origin. Could you please tell me the documents that one can attach along with the application to prove this. Tried to look for some faq's on the website but found none. I live in Mumbai and my parents were born in mumbai as well.
Thanks buddy.

dude ur question is as subjective as it can be............
there is no such rule that wat a fresher will get and wat a workx guy will get
companies are smart enough to put relevant work in one of the criteria,so if u hv 3 yrs of IT workx where u were u were doing mainframe work then for a bank ur experience may not be relevant......ur workx wud be considered but its weightage wud be low................
so asking an avg for workx and fresher wud hardly solve ur problem.............
like in 2008 batch the highest package was bagged by a fresher but then in general workx guys got more salary than freshers so avg is not a good yardstick to judge ur future salary but then i remember a line my engg guide used to say
"No statement can be generalized, not even this one"
Just keep in mind if u r good, companies are more than willing to pay u wat u ask.................
But the requirement is u need to be good:happy:
