Tiss- Hrm& Lr 2009- (GENRAL INFO) -
16-09-2008, 08:22 PM
1. dear maverick.
the gdpi calls were given this year, april 2008, not last year.
anyways roughly 3600 gdpi calls were given for the 60 seats TISS has.
the entire month of april went in conducting these gdpi's.
2. usually they give around 1200-1300 calls. this time TISS gave 3600 calls because the fixed cut-off '43' doesnt change & the paper was easier than before. so many people cleared the cutoffs. so TISS was forced to give 3600 calls. and the weightage for final total is divided between:
GD,PI,written score,work-ex,academics,profile etc.
so you have to be balanced in all these to make it. dont worry there is no essay to be written during GDPI.
3. hmm see man all that depends on u. how far u can convince them. either u have to sound convincing or else u shud have some HR or Labour relations related activities to back u up. ur chances are as good as anyone else's u just have to sell yourself to them. thats it
Peace.

Well guys. im from the TISS 2010 batch .
from what i remember u can expect the forms to be out around november-december. it will be announced on the website. keep following the website or the pagalguy threads and u will know when the forms are out.
2. well about the percentile we follow the marks pattern. the cut-off is 43.
you will have 2 papers of 1 hour each. 43 out of hundred isthe cutoff . u get 43 and u get a GDPI call from TISS. in our case the paper came too easy and many were able to clear the cutoff(43) . so finally TISS ended up giving 3600 calls for 60 seats. plus later 6 OBC seats were added.
3. as far as preperations is concerned the efforts u are putting in for CAT and other exams is enough. but yes a lil bit of business GK and social awareness shud be built up. reading any paper on a day to day basis is more than enough. just keep urselves abreast of the happenings around the world...and in india.
4. see guys GD is not an elimination round. so u will get a chance in PI to make an impression in case u have screwed up ur GD's. GD's and PI's have huge weightages. outta the 200 marks for selection just the GDPI contribute about 105-110 marks. remaining is written,profile,academics,work-ex.
5. yes having worked in an NGO will give u a good edge. but u gotta know how to turn that in ur favor. the faculty in TISS will be interviewing 60 people for selecting just 1 candidate(60:1) . so they need to see that spark in the candidate to take her/him.
ok anyways ruchi : the weightage is same i guess. please go thru the brochure. dont really bother so much about the return test. if you are preparing for CAT that shud take care of ur quants, DI , LR & english sections. just prepare for GK and the business awareness , social awareness etc. hope i have answered most queries. if any other plz shoot me!! . i mean the queries to me!
Peace.

Hey AJ,
Thanks a lot, you have surely got a lot of issues cleared out ...
1. In a previous post you said that this year TISS will call 400 students only and in your last post you said it'll again be 3600...Umm, which one is it ?
Also, is 43 a fixed cut-off....If the pattern is similair to yours, shud we assume cut-off is 43?
2. I know this question can be answered after clearing the written alos but you see it just keeps on nagging.... For a fresh engg graduate, how does he show his interest in HR? Should we be reading something related to HR etc so that we have something to utter or anything else you would suggest? If books, then which one?

Hi Federer ,
Tiss giving out 400 calls is what the admin people said for this batch. when i said 3600 that was the no. of calls given for our batch (last year). thats not gonna happen again. the calls shud be in the range of 400-500 this year unless the admin ppl pull out another trick from their bag.
2. For a work-ex guy he/she shud be genuinely interested in HR and shud be able to relate their work-ex with HR. or perhaps why they want to pursue HR. for a fresh engg. graduate there is good news. about 32% of our batch is made up of freshers. now thats a nice chunk!
anyways books are not gonna help. google is enough to know about the HR practises. basics of HR and how u as a person feel u can fit into those HR functions. i mean at least the basics such as training (development)& recruitment , compensation & benefits , strategic partnering , industrial relations , internal core HR practises , employee engagement , the role of HR in various business practices such as (mergers & acquisitions , organizational restructuring ) etc. and very importantly the changing roles of HR (evolution of HR as the style of business changes ) . now a basic understanding of this shall do. but u gotta really sell urself and prove to them that you will fit into any HR profile. TISS aspirants you guys can google for all these ... they are pretty easy. HR is all about thinking on ur feet (this was not the case before) , unlike finance / mrktg / operations where ur fundaments play a big role in how u evolve as a manager.
Peace.

filled the tiss form online...after submit it said that you have to send two signed photographs along with the dd and the application number written on plain paper to tiss...
is that it? dont we have to send a print out of the form or sumthng?
and also the photos need to be signed...but the instruction manual says they should be attested...and they should be of stamp size...
please clarify

Hi venkat..I spoke with the tiss people over phone(since i too had the same doubt).,there is no need to take print out if you apply online..only the reference number will do..they instructed to write a covering letter along with the reference number and paste a passport size photo in it..that shud be attested as mentioned in the instruction brochure..along with this enclose two stamp size photos..that will do..

The cut off always if 60 %, so if the paper is of 70 marks, cut off is 43, last year the paper was of 100 marks , so cut off would have been 60 marks...later this 100 marks is converted to a 70 mark equivalent ( 35 % of your profile..!!!) Complicated ehh ??!!!!
As for a fresh engg graduate, showcase the "people" kind of work you did in your college e.g arranging the college festival, group work, focus on ethics.....they dont expect HR fundas frm u...so plzz dont give them gas....as they shall chuck u our straightaway....be as honest as possible.....
