hi, m preeti frm hyd...m doing my b.a in mass comm n journalism, english lit n political science rite nw...im in the final yr n m gonna apply for tiss...for an m.a in media and culture studies...id like 2 work in the media (convergence) n move on to doin my research in dev comm....i have been writing for the hindu newspaper and a coupla other mags for abt 2.5 yrs now...this is a briefing on wat i do and where id like 2 c myself... id b grateful if u cud gimme some info on wat the entrance at tiss is like and wat are the criteria 4 accepting a candidate....also, is quant a big deal 4 tiss? i have abt a month's time 2 prepare..

Has anyone got any intimation( sms or mail) reg the receipt of their app forms.when would we know about the status and get Our hall tickets..any ideas?

I feel your profile is quite suited to the MCSC couse we have on campus ( media and cultural studies ).

For info on the test, kindly download the information brochure available at the website Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. On page 37, you shall find all information on the test. Also, if you can read the previous 25 pages in this thread, you shall get a fair idea of what the test is all about...its not only about quant...

If you are not giving any other exam, one month's focussed preparation for TISS should be good enough....as for commenting on the MCSC course, Im in no way qualified to do that, if you PM me, I could provide you with contact details of my friends in that course....one thing I can say is, they are one of the few courses who always seem to have a ball of a time...guess its called "learning by fun"..!!!!

I dont think there shall be any receipt of your form being admitted, but if any discrepancy is found, you shall get a phone call from the admissions department.

As for hall ticket, there's still lots of time to go..normally expect it around last week of November/ 1st week of December..!!

Yes, you need to convert your CPGA into marks as per your university rules.....kindly be very careful while conversion as last year, a lady's admission was cancelled after it was found that she had missed out on including some marks and so her marks went down a bit, so although she was offered admission after GD/PI, her admission was cancelled in the document verification stage. It was pretty ugly as that lady had cancelled her admission at JNU thinking she had got through to TISS, so at the end, she was left with nothing

So, please be careful....mention all the marks in your course...!!

Thanks for the info buddy. Also, one more concern is regarding the conversion of CGPA into Marks. In our university, we were awarded only grades for each subject in each semester of engineering.And the score of the semester was given in the form of a grade point average on a scale of 10. There was no provision of converting into marks but only converting in percentage. What can I write in the marks section of the application form? We usually multiply the cgpa by 100 and convert into marks. Eg: 8/10 = 800/1000. Will that be fine?

Apart from that, in the subjects section - are we supposed to mention each of the 10 subjects that we studied each year?

Any seniors here who can guide on the above two issues?

I had applied online. I have sent the DD, mark sheets to the TISS office along with my photographs. I have not sent a printout of my application form along. Is it okay? I have just mentioned my appl no at the reverse of the DD and sent a letter stating I would like to do HRM&LR. I have also mentioned my appl no in the letter.
Is it okie if i hv not sent a print out of my appl form along?
