Re: Tiss- Hrm& Lr 2009-2011 - 24-06-2009, 01:44 PM

I am a software engineer having more than 9 years of work experience. My present CTC is quite high and am working in my home town kolkata. My primary aspiration is to get into man management. I am looking for such positions where I can use my tech know-how for man management[preferably in the IT industry]. I just got frustrated with the hard-core "techie" jobs and hence want to get into HR which remained my dream for all these years. Hence my query here is : does TISS accept such profile for the PG course on HR management[full time 2 years course]? Moreover if it at all accept candidates like myself, can it provide accommodation for me with my family; because my daughter is 4 months old and hence it will be very difficult for me to manage it out, if they stay somewhere out of campus? Also can anybody provide me with any mail-id of concerned TISS persons to whom I can shoot this mail?

hi

yes you can apply to TISS and although your work experience is huge , there was a guy in our senior batch with 5+ years of experience

Apart from the full time MA in HRM & LR , you may also want to look at the diploma in HR for working professionals (Part Time)

Regarding Accomodation , first year students do not get to stay on campus and family members in any case do not which means you would have to look at options outside.

you may mail spalo@tiss.edu - she is the chairperson for the HRM & LR course currently

Regards
Anvesh

hey puys!

I am a s/w engineer with BTech from a NIT ..working with an MNC for 14 months now... I want to change my domain and want to go for MBA.. one of my friend suggested about TISS. Now i don't have any information about the colleg so here are my queries . Expecting seniors to please help me out

1. Hows the placement scenario at the institute ?
2. Is it really worth for me to change from engineering and move over for HR ? ( i dunno where my calling is..but i'm certainly not enjoying my stint in s/w industry )

Thanks!

Well we do have a lot of NIT-ians in our class (2009-2011 batch) , and that too with workex betn 12-40 months. So be rest assured that you wont be a fish out of water! Let me answer your questions one by one
1) Placement scenario was quite decent considering the economic conditions prevalent and that we offer a Hr speciality course. Please go through the detailed report at Final Placements 2009 - TISS HRM & LR. Average offer was 10.6 lakhs.
2) Well..moving from engineering to HR is a tough decision for most people including yours truly.
Some of the things which made me choose HR and especially Tiss were
1) The willingness to be different. There are only one or 2 colleges which can compare with Tiss HRM &LR. So you are certainly rare and highly sought after in the world of HR!
2) A genuine interest in understanding people and their relation to organisational behavior.
3) Batch diversity. More than 55 % of our class in Tiss consists of non engg and 50 % are females. This makes for a wide variety of people and makes discussions and class participation exciting!
4) Fees..they are about 35k.year or abt 70k for the whole course !

Its upto you to decide which of these or other factors are applicable to you and then decide whether to take the plunge or not.
Do let me know in case u any additional info.

All the best!!
