Hi im new to pagalguy. I m appearing for TISS 2008. I have few doubts regarding the exam pattern.
It is given in the brochure dat-- The Written Test is in two parts. Part I is the Common Objective Test for
all the programmes which consists of 3 sections: (i) General awareness/knowledge
about current/contemporary social issues.

What r d other 2 sections???

It is also given dat

Objective Test will have : Data Interpretation Test, Data sufficiency Test, Probability Test, Reading Comprehension relating to business and HR issues, Business Knowledge, Foundation of Management (Economics, Sociological and Psychological).

Is dat mean der will b no verbal ability test(synonyms /ant, grammar ) , no quant test (only probability test)

it lot depends on your inclination:
TISS has more of specialized courses(HRM being the most popular) for which you should be somewhat sure before applying.IIT's invariably have techno MBA.

I would suggest that take a decision based on ur interest area(rather than comparing 5 instis vs 1 insti). Hope it helps!

It would depend on how you can relate ur NGO experience to your interest in HR during the interview....at this stage, it's better to concentrate on the written part

i am a final year engineering student(7th semester) my problem is that in our college 6th semester results are not declared till now so can't i apply for tiss??? plz reply
hehe...naa buddy, I guess you can still apply... just get a letter from your college stating that the results have not yet been declared, and that you shall submit your marks as soon as the results shall be declared.

I think your case is an one off case, and TISS shall take these calls on a case by case basis..

You could also send a mail to admissions@tiss.edu.

The initial shortlisting for the 2nd round shall be on purely your marks in the entrance test. You need to score 60 % of the total marks to qualify for the GD/PI round. Now if the paper is of 100 marks, and you score 61, then you shall get a call for GD/PI

Now, at this stage, your GD/PI performance, your academics, your entrance score etc etc mentioned in the brochure shall matter...

As for avg acads and no HR work exp, that is a perception.....look, TISS does not know what kind of work exp you have....its all about how you "package" what you have done....you have to market yourself to TISS, but in a very ethical way and not boast about yourself.....hope you get what Im trying to say....

So, avg acads n no work exp is not a concern, concentrate on your strengths and what you are good at, rather than worrying about what you do not have.....in your interview, TISS shall not be bothered abt what you do not have, but more worried about whether what you are good at shall benefit them or not....

This, I believe, is the secret to cracking TISS ( no longer a secret, I guess ]

I believe they shall consider your form, guess you would need to produce a letter from your university stating that you have lost your marksheet and currently the process of obtaining a copy is going on..

Hope you have kept a xerox of the marksheet...

Some personal advice, dude be careful about your marksheets, its required at each n every stage of your career.... Make 10 copies n store it at 10 different locations in your house...!!!

Mate, I can see from where you come, but its not a tough decision at all....

TISS is renowned for its HR program; whereas IIT's is renowned for its operations and systems MBA.

Now, make it clear in your mind, do you see yourself in HR consulting firm like E&Y, PWC, Hewitt etc, or do you see yourself cracking number in the organizations mentioned above.....if its the former, apply for TISS, and if its the later, apply for JMET...!!!

Believe in your own abilities, if you're good, you shall crack both of them, and if you're dumb, then you shall not crack even one.....pardon me for my "un-refined" language..!!!

Guys, kindly distinguish btwn MSW n HRM......

You dont need an NGO work exp to crack TISS......

The people in my batch, including myself, are from Wipro, Infosys, IBM, TCS , Mahindra's, TVS Motors, Maruti Udyog, Nestle, HSBC n many more..none of us have core NGO exp...although some of us have worked for Pratham some time in our lives...

We were never questioned on our NGO work exp....so its not really any kind of an edge you have over others...

If you're a fresher, then focus on your acads, your college festivals, your extra-curricular activites ( no, not your dating skills..!!!) etc etc....

But yeah, as my buddy says, 1st focus on the written part...you'll have now less than 3 months to prepare...!!!
