Hello Junta
I am an engineer and I am giving TISS for the second time. Last year I had a call from TISS, still cant figure out why I didnt convert it despite a good GDPI( may be lack of work experience).
The clash with Jmet seems to be purposeful to eliminate unnecessary engineering students who apply to TISS just for the heck of it.
I am happy TISS has done that as genuine people like me will stand a better chance to make it to the institute which I am really looking forward to :-)
As far as my analysis about this year's paper goes, it is same as told by many- part 1 being relatively easy and part 2(HRM & LR) a little tough due to time constraint. I attempted all the questions in part 1 and 2 though i couldnt do justice to few questions in part 2.
I could recall few questions from GK, other than the ones already posted so here it goes
1. Which was the newest member of SAARC- My Ans=> Afghanistan.
2. Magsasay award for the year 2008=> Prakash & Mandakini Amte.
3. Nobel prize for the year 2007 in Economics => Leonid Hurwicz ( the oldest to get a nobel prize at the age of 90) & others.
4."We know India better" is the tagline of => LIC
5. Which among the following is wrongly matched => Kurnool-Hindujas
6.Jhulan Goswami is a => sports person(Fast bowler of Indian cricket team)
7. State with lowest population density => Arunachal Pradesh
8. Mark Zuckuberg invented => Facebook
My answers for some of the questions already posted
1.Man booker prize for the year 2008- Arving Adiga (The white Tiger)
2. Max number of Indian companies in the Fortune 500 list are from which sector => petroleum
3. State which never had a lady CM => Maharastra
as TN has Jayalalitha, Rajasthan had Vasundhara Raje and MP had Uma Bharati.
4.My answer for the political party mismatch is => Tamilnadu
5. India's first artificial satellite=> Aryabhatta
6.A company which was previously known as CTR, Computing-Tabulating-Recording => IBM
7.Latest practice in manufacturing => my answer was mass production but i think its lean production, definitely not division of labour.
8. Chainsaw consultant => helps in downsizing.
9. CRISIL is an organisation related to => share market.
10. Who is not related to the climate change => APJ Abdul Kalam
11. what is the theory when a person eulogizes someone => Y theory (random guess)
12. " birds of the same feather" and "opposites attract" => sayings that came up under different circumstances and cultures.
13. Decline in the value of a country's value of currency =>imports will get costlier and exports cheaper.
Key words that I can recall from few more questions
1."median number of years for a girl child"
2. SWAP, hedge ,opinion were options for a particular question
3.strategic management=> which has options such as employer, customer, structure etc.
As far as the cut offs are concerned, TISS has clearly mentioned that there are NO sectional cut offs or negative marking. There might be an overall cut off including part 1 and 2 to give calls for GDPI.
Many of them seem to be hovering around the same overall score. So lets keep our fingers crossed and wait for the result which is to be declared on Jan25, 2009.
Signing off

But guys ( or rather puys) lets not allow the ghosts of the past haunt us and affect our preps..we have other exams to take and most importantly gd/pi preparation to concentrate on..lets get on with tht keeping the fear of whether we would make it or not aside..because the worst part is to get a gd /pi call, see tht we have less than a month to prepare for it which is def not enuf, panic and then ruin it..beleive me the pain tht comes with it is seriusly excruciating...we have a battle to fight..lets not wave the white flag when only half of the battle is over..lets fight it till the very end..
1.if u have done well for the exam , great..nothing like it..:hurray:
2.if u r on the border line and u FEEL u havent done well, plz dont let tht put you down and dampen ur spirit..rememeber if u are in this slot and u get a gd/pi call u need to do really well to make up for it because the weightage for pi is the same as written and u wud have to make it up thr..
these are my two cents..
also i have a question for seniors, when they give out the call would they consider our profile also or is it entireely on the basis of our scores..

fortunately/unfortunately its completely based on entrance exams scores ( n maybe the 30 marks allocated for academics..Im not 100 % sure about this....)
