Re: XLRI 2009 -Official thread for Queries - 12-03-2009, 08:56 PM

Had XLRI GD/PI on 10th March
XAT %ile: 98.72
Call : PMIR

10th: 85
12th: 81
BE: 75.6

A group of 10 was called in which 3 people didn't turn up. We all were happy.
GD: They gave us all a sheet of paper in which there was a passage and 9 points, the priority of which was to be decided after the discussion. The passage was on Relocation of residents of an area which sees an industry coming up like what happened at Singur with TATA coming.
There were 9 points out of which we discussed some 6 points and had common consensus on 3-4 points. The time was over. ~15 minutes for Discussion and 5 minutes for thinking before the GD. After that everyone was to summarize the GD.
Two people had very loud voice and the worst part was I was sandwiched between them.
Chipped in a few times with decent points. the GD dint turn into a Fish market.

PI:
I was fourth to be interviewed. 3 people.
P1, P2, P3:
P3 dint ask anything except one question but was constantly staring at me attentively. Probably, reading the body language.

me: Please may I come in (chotu si smile:tongue
P1: Please do. Have a seat. (I gave my folder)
P1: tell something about yourself
me: told (only OK. nothing good.)
P2: What do you mean by SITUATIONAL MANAGEMENT? (What the heck!!)
me: told something
P2: do you think you could have managed the GD in a better way?
me: Yes, I could have. The guys on both of my sides were almost shouting and I could have asked them to lower their voices. However, I refrained from it because people do get offended by it very often. (Bit more).
P3(only question):but u were making faces while the GD was going on as if you were getting angry
me: No Sir, I was not getting angry just that the people were so loud that I could not avoid it. (They seemed slightly convinced)
P2: what is the difference between Patent and Copyright?
me: (I dint know. blabbered something)
They all started asking things about ISO, ISI, standardization. I had heard about them but dint know them in details. Told them whatever I knew.
P1: What change would you like to make in your organization?
me: told that people are working from 9am to 12-12.30 am also on the weekends. Its not only hampering their social life but also their health. So the manager should be able to get reasonable time line and estimation should be good.(dunno how was it)
P2: What do u mean by GLASS-CEILING?
me: (damn!!)I dont know(after returning, I asked n people told about it:sad
P1: Do you read books also?
me: yes, I do
P2: what kind
me: These days I am reading a book which has FOLLOW YOUR DREAM theme.(told the story)

P1,P2,P3.. Thanks a lot. you may go.
me: Thanks a lot.

Al the best to you all. Wish I get through. I should get through, for I bought a 600/- ki Tie for the PI.

Hi Sumit

Can you please contact the admissions office and give an official word about the results date..This will help in quelling the anxiety to some extent and also prevent speculation and spamming on the thread

Re: XLRI 2009 -Official thread for Queries - 14-03-2009, 12:53 AM

Sure, I could do that. But let me tell you about what happened last year. I called up Admissions on March 25th, and was told that the results would be out 'on or before date x' (I've forgotten the scheduled date.)

And half-an-hour later, a friend called me to inform me that the results were out.

So, just sit tight, and spam all you want.

Let me warn you, though.... we keep an Excel sheet of the most inquisitive junior(s) on PaGalGuy and reserve some... ahem... 'special treatment' for them...

Hahaha,,,,that was good Sumit ........seems the bond between PG and XL is going strong.
I had one query though, the consultancy firms like Mercers, what kind of profile they offer , and what kind of students (profile wise) they prefer to hire ?

Cheerz!

Re: XLRI 2009 -Official thread for Queries - 15-03-2009, 11:55 AM

Hey check this out XLRI on the official Google world blog...
Congrats.. wow

Official Google Blog: Schools get the "App"titude across the globe

Since the launch of Google Apps Education Edition in October 2006, millions of people at thousands of schools in more than 100 countries have been using our free email and collaboration tools. We love hearing from newly deployed schools like Loyola Marymount University, Westmont College, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, Chapman University, Saint Ignatius High School, and California State University, Chico (to name a few) about how they're now able to use Apps in teaching, learning, and researching on campus, while also saving time and money.

While we continue to see more and more U.S. schools moving to Google Apps, we find it especially exciting to see that the trend of outsourcing online communication and collaboration needs is catching on in other parts of the world. In Australia, for example, the New South Wales Department of Education recently migrated 1.5 million students to Google Apps. The University of Adelaide also just announced that it is offering to its 16,000 students email services and other online tools as part of the Apps suite, at no cost to the university. Many other schools and colleges in this region have also recently deployed Google Apps, including Hsin Sheng College of Medical Care and Management in Taoyuan County Taiwan, Air University in Islamabad Pakistan, Univesitas Pelita Harapan in Indonesia, the International College of Management in Sydney, and schools across New Zealand like Fendalton School.

To help spread the word about Apps, the team in India came up with the Got the "App"titude Challenge, which encouraged students, faculty members and alumni from all engineering and management schools throughout India to move their institutions to Google Apps. The challenge created quite a stir, and after launching in August, we received almost 6,000 sign-ups. Each college team consisted of students, alumni and faculty who worked closely with IT staff to identify challenges in their existing email and collaboration solutions. Working with a Googler, the teams then demonstrated ways Google Apps could be used to address these challenges. The performance of each team was evaluated by measuring product usage after their deployment.

We'd like to extend our congratulations to the XL CONNECT team from Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur, who won the challenge by demonstrating the highest usage of Google Apps products.

As a result of the challenge, more than 100 colleges across India are now in the process of implementing Apps in their institutions. And we look forward to seeing more and more schools all over the world adopt Google Apps.
