i know that QA was very less but i saw ppl with 94+ in each section and 98+ OA but still not getting a call... | Raghav, seeds' post on the page does specify the criteria for shortlisting. However, remember, those are only cutoffs. For BM, the top 490 people out of the ones meeting those criteria were shortlisted. And for PMIR, the top 288 were. And don't worry, if you can keep your other scores constant and improve your QA score, you should be able to make the shortlist comfortably. Quote:
also, last year's essay topic was gender divide (or somewhat like that) and the content i wrote was very different from the coaching institute's keys...
what is the importance of the essay in sending the calls...
please clarify...
| The essay is the X-factor in the selection process. Not much is known about it. But, as seeds said, it is safe to assume that they only read the essays after shortlisting people. After all, reading one lakh essays would be tough right? Hence, out of the 700-odd students who are shortlisted for GD/PIs, they probably read essays, and ask questions.
Also, an essay depends a lot on your personality, and viewpoints. So, obviously, coaching keys could be different. However, I believe that one's clarity of thought, and not the actual thoughts themselves are evaluated in an essay. (along with knowledge of the English language in terms of grammar and spelling) I'd suggest don't worry too much - practice, read a lot, and also focus on developing ideas about abstract topics. In simple words what is the "Strategy to sail through XAT"?? | Shivani, this is my opinion, and others may differ, but I feel there's no drastic difference as such in the preparation strategy for CAT and XAT. Yes, the VA/RC sections are somewhat different, and XAT does have some higher maths, but overall, the structure is the same. And yes, if you divide time well, and selectively attempt questions smartly, you have a high chance of doing well. | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to sumitrocks For This Useful Post: | | | | | |

TIA | Oh man, I dont remember any higher level maths questions in XAT, or maybe I was smart enough not to attempt any. I never studied any higher level maths. Ofcourse Im good for nothing, Vasudha on the other hand is one of the toppers, she'll give better advice on Quant.
I'm assuming you mean General awareness for essays and GD/PI and not in XAT (coz that was discontinued).
I read everything from Derrida to P3 of Delhi Times. I wasn't a fan of politics, but I knew who's doing what in which part of the world. You wont have a GD for BM, and for Interviews, you cant really prepare (they asked me questions from Italian cinema to Basmati Rice Patents). I remeber borrowing magzines like Chronicles from my friends, not sure if I read those, but it had articles on all current affairs.
My advice would would be to know a little of everything rather than a lot of something. XLence is everything, rest is just IIMmaterial Blue is the colour, football is the game

Like in XLRI also, everything in XAT depends on the profs who'd set the paper. You can't say that GK/GA will come or wont come or anything.
I'd suggest that you read the monthly edition of CSR -> Competition Success Review. It'll help you with GK and GA both and for all the exams. | | | | | | | |

anyways..it feels so nice to be answering Qs from "Juniors" less than 1 term into the course!!!
Some gyaan just so that this is not taken as a spam - guyz chilla maaro...don't worry so much about the essay...let your imagination lose on the essay topic - no major preparation should be required for it. | | | | | The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to mandumk For This Useful Post: | | | | | |

So many people already active on PG.. doston, end term to de lo dhang se .. kudos to see the junta's enthu...and I particularly agree with Mandar... yes, it feels good to b called Seniors so SOON
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
anyways; some gyaan from my side to begin with..
I would suggest to make it a daily habit to read the Editorial section of a good newspaper like Hindu.. I think that'll be more than sufficient for anyone of you..
XL interveiew do have question related to some current affairs; but I realised through my interview that none of the questions were of any vaguesort. They were relevant to the kind of profile which I had.
But then some people did have a not so great experience in the Intv..
and some important input regarding the Essay. I was asked some questions regarding the essay which I wrote; so it'll always be better to atleast remember the content of the essay which you'll write in XAT... that may come handy during the intv....

XAT notification is out! For more than 50 years XLRI is conducting Admission Test on All India level to select the most appropriate students for management education. Please refer to XAT Associate Institutes. Applicants desirous of joining XLRI or any other institutions have to appear for XAT 2009.

Hats off to the admissions committee, a very nice page explaining the registration process with screen-shots coupled with a page for mock registration mean no-one will have any trouble while registering.
I'm also attaching flowchart for XAT registration.
