Also it is not necessary you read the entire article
The passages you would get in these exams might be long, say take the example of FMS, which had an entire section dedicated to RC, they had long long passages
I think it is more important that you develop the art of skimming of course with increasing comprehension
In the beginning it will be disheartening as you would keep forgetting what you have read, however once you master it, its gonna make your life very easy even in a b school and after that..
You can practice speed reading with Newspapers
And try skimming with magazine articles, as they would be long
Taking the vocabulary question forward, this year you can expect few vocabulary questions, as they did not come in last two year's paper, so a surprise can be speculated
However, they would be more on frequently used words, and not very difficult ones, CL gives a "Frequently Used Words List" for Xat preparation
Get hold of it from your friends

Re: XLRI 2009 -Official thread for Queries -

I posted this in the XAT 2009 queries and was directed here, couldn't find the information I was looking for so posting my query:
1) In the XAT form we had a section which asked us to fill in the associate schools we would be applying to. (and indicated that the scores would be sent to them) So I am inclined to believe that it might not be necessary to apply to them, especially since a lot of them have their submission dates till after the exam..
Is this true? Do you need to apply for institutes(other than xlri/ximb) before the results individually? or has someone received call letters from institutes(decent ones like GIM / LIBA) after scores were sent?? (I know its unlikely that they will send call letters without someone applying but people have told me this(call letters) happens)
2) I wrote to the admission office for a clarification on this too but haven't received a reply.
What is the criteria for CLASSIFICATION OF A CANDIDATE AS AN NRI??
I have given my class 12 equivalent exam outside India: does that qualify me as an NRI candidate? Other colleges have this as one of their criteria (Either 12th or graduation) so I'd like to know whether the same is applcable for XLRI as well??
Neither can I find this information on the website nor have i received a reply from the admissions office. The admission procedure is slightly different for internationals/NRI, I gather from the site.
Someone please reply.

Hey Gravz,
When they say that they'll provide your scores to these colleges, that means you dont need to send your XAT scorecard to those colleges after the results come out. This doesn't mean that you dont even need to fill their form or apply to those colleges.
Like for SPJAIN... you yourself are responsible for filling up your CAT/XAT scores in their website. But as far as I can recall, my scores for XAT were sent to XIMB by itself. I didn't have to send my scoecard to them in order to get a call.
Hope I've solved your query.

I have stuck to this in the previous two years. But most of my friends were not able to. It is quite obvious that most people can't/won't stick to this. When you have something called deadline, then why do you introduce this new clause - 'within a week'. It causes inconvenience to candidates if we are particular about following it. Moreover it is not strictly seen by XLRI ie all my friends who sent the forms even after a week of obtaining the XAT bulletin(in the previous years), got their admit cards and were able to write XAT. Then why don't you remove this condition from the instructions instead of having it year after year. Is it like you are using the same template?

@sumit
I wanted to adhere to this '1 week thingy' and asked my dad to get xat bulletin and xlri prospectus on thursday (11/09)..He got it on 11/09 in chennai..i was planning to go to chennai this weekend(13/09-14/09)(i am working in bangalore) and thought i will complete the application formalities today in chennai and send it today itself so that it will reach xl within a week.. BUT the train got cancelled :death:and am held up in bangalore :new_let_it_all_out:and i'll not be able to send the form within a week
Now the reason for elaborately explaining my situation - Just to illustrate what i meant when i said this 'condition' is causing inconvenience to candidates if we are particular about following it..Now i am forced to worry about not adhering to the instruction despite buying the bulletin and prospectus well in advance(before the deadline)!
can u just find out from the admissions office if it is okay if i don't send it within a week (anyway i have no other option;-))
thanks

Hey catasp247,
Sumit and all other juniors + Seniors are out of XLRI @ their home... enjoying the vacations. So we might not be able to solve all the queries that you people are asking.
About this query of ur, I dont think that any of us will be able to give you a concrete answer. I'd say better you try to follow all the deadlines (as if this was not know to you :laugh
But I'm trying to get help from some other people who might be able to answer it. Lets see if and when that happens.
All the best...
