XAt Institutes -
08-09-2008, 09:35 PM
My friend i want to ask question
that how many Xat institues are covered in XAT Exam
like 7 IIM institutes are covered through 1 CAT Form and we dont have to apply for each IIM separately
Did this same thing happens with xat institues as well
or do we have to apply for each Xat institute separately .
such as xlri,ximb etc

None...u have to apply separately for each and every institute...exam is just an eligibility criteria for the institutes...

As regards to not needing application to other institutes...it is not possible, as XAT is just an entrance exam, which is used by other institutes for their selection. So u wud have to explicitly apply to the instis based on XAT for their admission process ..in fact, even XLRI requires u to apply separately for admission to the programmes here.
The link given by raghav shud be of use..it mentions this clearly..

That's interesting...
BM-> Business Management
PMIR-> Personnel management and Industrial relations
basically if you go into BM.. u can do Finance, Marketing, IT, Operations, Strategy, Economics.
While PMIR is a specialized (and the FLAGSHIP as Pummers always say ) course of XLRI.

If you think you can prepare meticulously for these two months, then I dont see any reason of you not getting 95%ile +. That's achievable and many people here in XLRI have done that. So just try to identify how much time and dedication you are ready to give for these exams. Doing this will answer all your queries.
P.S. I myself had given all exams last year except MAT.

Hi fellow Puys,
Well my question is how different is XAT from CAT? Interms of preparation what do you think is required more for XAT?
Also are our mock scores (of CAT) a fair indicator of our competency at XAT?
Thanks.

You would be glad to know that there isn't really much difference between CAT and XAT - in fact the XAT i took last year was the first XAT I ever took (meaning I hadn't taken any "mock xats" before )- so I was taking XAT entirely on the basis of my CAT preparation.
Your mock CAT scores should be as much an indicator of your competency at XAT as they are of your competency at CAT !
The crux is - focus on the concepts rather than the style of an exam - even CAT is known for changing its colours every year - and with XAT also you can expect one surprise or the other - but deep down both the exams test the same sets of concepts that are required as a pre-requisite for getting into a B School
