No other way..You must have gone through this quote somewhere in life"There is no shortcut for success"..same applies here.
Well, about VA,if you have to appear for XAT 2009,not much time is left at your disposal,so just practice IMS papers and make sure go through a standard english paper (most preferably Hindu) daily.

Rest, seniors can advice you better.

Well, I dunno what that comment means, but you sure can work on your VA even in a month. Some suggestions:

1. Practice 1-2 RC passages every day. That shouldn't take you more than an hour, including analysis.
2. For FIJ questions, assume that you have NO prior knowledge of the topic at all. Don't let your assumptions cloud your judgment.
3. For para-jumbles, take a random paragraph in a newspaper/magazine. Cut it up into lines, and try arranging the lines in a para by yourself. (I devised this last year, and it worked wonders!)

Overall, just develop your patience, and test it against your tendency to assume stuff. That should do!!

Read and practice are two simple words which are difficult to implement. Read what. How to practice DI.
I can help you in someway to the latter part.
DI- first thing you need to brush up your basics. Like try to learn tables alteast till 20 I would say If possible try to learn till 20*20(I hope you can understand what am i try to say)
Secondly try to practice a lot of percentage calculation, because every now n then you will be asked to solve percentage related calculations in DI.
Thirdly make addtions fast- one method i can tell you. Start with Most significant digit and then go to LSD just opposite of what we used to do in school. eq. 10+15+18+19 now what we usually do add 9,8,5,0 then carrt the digit to the tens. Now learn new method. add 1,1,1,1 you get 4 this is tens digit so it gives you 40 now move to 9 8 5 0. How does this method reduce time when you have to add the same digits in both the methods.
Answer to this is when you start with MSD in many cases you will get the first digit of the answer of close to first digit may be -1,-2 of it, so you can eliminate few options in many questions. Unlike other method in you will start with LSD you will not be able to eliminate many options.
try this this really worked in my case.

Try to make proper approximations while solving questions. never go for accurate solving methods in DI
Practice the questions keeping these points in mind with help you.

Don't AIM for a single SUCCESS,........... Make it your HABIT.....

Alliance, IFMR, KIAMS, Welingkar, XIME are a couple to add to the list...

Refer the last 2-3 year papers of both XAT and FMS, that'll help you to have an overview of the exam and its level of difficulty.
