An article in December 2008 issue of Business & Management Chronicle (Page 48 ) has mentioned SIOM under A-Category B-Schools in the information pertaining to SNAP. It precisely mentions that SIBM, SCMHRD, SIOM and SIIB are A-Class B-Schools under SNAP while SIMC, SCIT, SITM and SIMS are B-Class B-Schools.

In SNAP you will encounter the questions most of which will have very easy level and it's just a matter of the number of attempts (with reasonably good accuracy). As compared to CAT, the level of questions in English, DI & Quant is very easy. If you have been going through the newspapers, then GK should also be easy for you. Although you will encounter questions from many disciplines, more emphasis is placed on current affairs and business awareness. I would suggest you to go through last year's SNAP detailed analysis available on PT Education's website at URL: http://www.pteducation.com/admin/tes...st%2007_08.pdf
SNAP paper is not provided to the candidates and as such it would normally not be possible for a candidate to estimate his score. Still, institutes would provide answers to the memory-based questions which may be helpful in giving some pointers.
All the best!

hi,
i have gone through all the posts here and the replies have been very helpful. i have completed my engineering last year (dec 2007) and been working in a small company in my city (more than one year). my acads are very low.
10th 70
12th 65
b.tech comp sci 56
another thing that worried me while filling the form is they are asking about number backlogs and the semester which i had cleared them. i had backlogs in each and every semester...
so what do you think? should i avoid applying? please tell me realistically. i really was trying to hide my back paper history but i think thats not possible now. i have applied for snap exam and SIOM was the only one i was looking at. is there any other college under SNAP that i should try for and according to you is in my "range"? please guide..
awaiting your reply.

Although your chances of getting a call from SIOM based on your profile are not that high, still I think if you can perform well in SNAP and get a good score, probably then you may get a call. It's up to you to take the decision. Personally, I would advise you to apply even if there are little chances if you want to do MBA this year itself. If you can secure a good score, you should apply to SIBM-Pune, SIBM-Bangalore, SIIB. You can also apply to SITM if you have interest in Telecom.

Thank you for your advice. yes i want (have) to do MBA this year itself. i feel SIBM and SIIB are way above my league (atleast i can safely say only engineers apply for SIOM so lesser competiton). and i dont have much info about SIBM-bangalore so i am a bit worried of applying there as its new. and my friends are saying that telecom is too much of a specialization and i will have to remain in that sector. whats your take on that? i am interested very much in operations as i my sister has also opted for operations with finance from sp jain (second year onwards).

It's correct that Telecom Management would be a highly specialised course and you should apply to SITM only if you have interest in Telecommunications. Apart from core telecom companies, almost all major IT companies have business units dedicated to Telecom services and you can remain in IT after your MBA in Telecom. At this moment, you should excercise all the options available and choose the best one after you have choices with you.

You have a very good & diversified profile and in my opinion your chances of getting a call from SIOM are very high. We have students from a wide range of engineering branches. In 2008-10 batch alone, there is representation of more than 20 different engineering branches and 84% of the batch possesses work-experience. In 2007-09 batch, the candidate admitted with maximum experience had around 5 years work-ex while for 2008-10 batch, it was 4.5 years.
Being having a good profile, I would also recommend you to apply to SCMHRD under SNAP and also to executive MBA programmes of reputed institutes (ISB, SPJIMR etc.).

I will try to give answer to this question based on my last year experiences with SIOM........last yr lot of people who were having back logs had not mentioned it while filling the form and there is no way SIOM is going to verify it.......i know atleast 2-3 people who were finally selected....so i think now it is clear for you what to do and what not to do........sorry varun for this unethical answer but i think aspirants should know everything moreover we all had spoken so many lies during our interviews ........hope u will not mind
