We have a very healthy mix of freshers and people with
workex. The average workex is around 2 years. You can

You mean to say that:

1.) no. of seats this time will be more than the sanctioned intake of 120 seats..?

2)i remember i read smwhr that last year also the sanctioned intake was 120 but iit kgp settled for 80 students as many withdrew.....is it going to happen this year as well......?

3) i hope u r not of the view that iit kgp will take 120 this year instead of 80 and u r calling this as increase in seats?

In the form, where we are supposed to write our name, its written "as per the certificate of qualifying examination".
What do they mean by Qualifying examination - JMET or B.E. ?
Coz in JMET its just my name while in B.E. degree my father's name is added to my name and my surname is first and then first name.. coz its from pune university..
so what is the qualifying examination..??

I'm sorry to say but you do seem to have an extremely pessimistic view of the entire system and the outlook.

Anyway to answer to your queries,
1) Sanctioned seats at IIT Kharagpur will be above 120 this time. Queries about increase in strength of other IIT's can be answered on their respective threads.

2) Last yr sanctioned strength was 120 but we dont just fill up the seats if we dont get desirable candidates worthy of joining an institution such as IIT. This is definitely not to say that we dint fill up the sanctioned strength bcoz many candidates withdrew!

3) We are students ourselves and do understand how anxious prospective candidates are during admissions and as such will give out news only when we feel it may help you, so NO, your 3rd hypothesis is wrong.

I hope this clears all your queries and just for everyone to know, while applying, pls do not keep last year's cut off in mind...with the increase in seats, seats in all categories including General, SC/ST, OBC and PH will increase proportionately in the percentages as decided by the honorable government of India.

Thanks for correcting me sachin.....but my basic query is that the way KGP was adamant last year with not releasing second list..is it going to be the same case this year...because it may happen that KGP may not get the so called DESERVING candidates for IIT?
